- Video of Michael Evanko fly fishing for brook trout for the first time in Wyoming County, Pennsylvania. It was the first time this season that the brook trout were consistently looking to the surface of the water for a meal. The stream fished in the video is a tributary to a tributary of the Susquehanna River. Portions of the creek which run close to the road seemed to hold fewer fish. The upper stretches of the creek held many wild brook trout, but many were small. Evanko shares some of his favorite dry flies for spring brook trout. The water temps at the time of filming were 48 degrees and the air temps were in the low 60s. This video was shot over a four hour time period on Sunday, April 14, 2019. All filming was solo and all access was on foot.
Great video as always Mike. I really appreciate you making these 👍🎣
Alex Lewis thanks Alex, your nice comments mean a lot. Have a great holiday weekend.
Thanks for another great brookie video. I love exploring new water.
Nice views!! Great dry fly action and beautiful native brookies!! Great day!
Ricky Wykoff thanks Ricky, I love catching trout on the surface?!
Beautiful fish in beautiful environs. Thanks for taking us along! Good to see you out again.
Another great video Mike! We've caught more brookies than anything this past year. What a great resource we have! Thanks!
Nice video Mike. Thanks for the shout out.
BrookieBum you bet, I’m gonna fish those dries at some point this spring.
@@WoolyBugged I hope they serve you as well as they have for me.
Thanks for the video, Mike! Appreciate all of the extra work you put in to film your trips...bringing us along for some cool small stream brook trout action!
Great vid. The HD was as good as being there. I grew up on the little brooks of NH. I still find them fascinating. Thanks!
Very nice stream , landscapes are amazing. 😎👍🍀
Fishing and Freediving in Ireland thank you! How’s the fishing in Ireland right now?
@@WoolyBugged Spring is finally here, we had very high water for long time but it's finally going down, today is first day temperature went to 20c so it might be good evening to go out. Targeting large trout and salmon so I'm mainly spinning, but I have few club fly fishing competition, first 20th May. All the best and tight lines👍🍀🐸
Now that the weather has warmed up, not dried up, Don't forget about the great hatches to come in May, like my two favorites the sulphur and the even more amazing Green Drake on penns ! Great video looking forward to some more.
Great video..was up in the Allegheny National Forrest in Warren County...very poor fishing and weather...but any day on the steam is a great day!
blademaker 323 you got that right!
Obviously..
I believe I fished this creek just over a month ago. You did better than I did. Great video!
great camera work Mike. the whole video is excellent, not to speak of the brookies. your mix of camera and commentary are the best! take care, see you soon.
mike sorendo thanks for that comment Mike, I appreciate it. Been out fishing at all?
@@WoolyBugged hey Mike, yes, at least once a week. heading up north next month to fish the Black River and Fish Creek with my brother. can't wait!

Thanks for the cool video Mike. Surprised you’re fishing dry flies in #14. Here in the West I rarely use as large as 16 and typically 18-22 on mountain streams for brookies and cutthroats. Typically fish humpy, para Adams, black or tan midges. Larger flies for browns and bows in the bigger rivers and still water. It looks like the brookies in that water were really aggressive. Lots of nice takes.
X Papi they can be very aggressive, especially as we move into the summer season and they are looking for terrestrials. The bigger dries will often weed out the small brookies and encourage the larger ones!
Wooly Bugged Good reason. I’ll try it!
hey man love your videos and I love the state of pa I fish all the time in potter county I love pa. Anyways keep up the work man
Jason Jabm thank you! We live in an amazing place here with so many fishing opportunities.
That's a nice little stream and looks very remote. Love anything that looks like "bear country"...
Mike, love the videos! Question about the top right dry fly that you said is the royal wulff. What’s the body made out of? Doesn’t look like the standard peacock hurl and red thread? I’m all in to tie something like you’re using. Thanks man!
Great to see you filming again.
Hurts me to see you lose that fish at 9:00. Love the video as always. Excited to follow you throughout the spring and summer.
Mike just starting to get back into fly fishing after a 20 year hiatus. Looks like the gear has changed quite a bit. Will be fishing in PA and MD. Any equipment recommendations would be greatly
appreciated.
know the area well.nice little brookies
Your sound is really good. Can you tell me anything about your video and sound setup you use when fishing? Keep the great videos coming!
Another great trip upstream
Mike Andrews thanks Mike! I love heading upstream, wish it never stopped.
You work hard to put these vids together . I'm getting a fly set up this year for sure . In my mind those were trophies!
Kudos ... beautifully done!!!
beautiful
Wish I had more brookies in my area, cool video!
Mike, I'm just curious about how you film these shows. Plenty of segments show you walking away from the camera, especially on the hikes back to your truck. You seem to get pretty far from the camera; do you then walk back to retrieve the camera, which seems to be in a fixed-position? That would seem to add a lot of walking -- and in waders!
Ronald Runeric I do a lot of walking Ron!
@@WoolyBugged -- Do you mean that there is nothing else to it; you just walk a couple hundred yards away from the camera, then (not shown on the film), you walk back to get the camera?
Great to see you back at it man. Nice intro explaining where, what, and how. Super rewarding when you go somewhere new and have success. Thanks for sharing. Cool "daddy long legger" fly. At some point some fly tying is in your future for vids. Also, any experience with the Ghost-tec indy's. I feel like your style meets their push of fishing. Later Mike!
Hey Tightlining, how’s the fishing been in Maryland? Ya, I’m enjoying getting more into tying, I just need more time to do it! I have used the Ghostech SIs and they are great. I will use them on occasion.
@@WoolyBugged Fishing has been good. I was planning a Monday trip, but gonna be difficult with heavy rains on the way, even for 3 days later. So likely gonna have to stick to freestone/class a trib type water. I had a very nice day recently in a pretty secluded unfished stretch of water in MD. Headed to float fish WB of Potomac in Western MD/WV in two weeks, can't wait for that. Haven't been to Morgan Run, barely fished the high ass Gunpowder. Thanks for responding and the feedback on Ghost-tech
Tight Lining MD I’m really hoping this year doesn’t turn out as wet as last year.
Just curious, if you were looking for attention on the indicator. Why not use a dry dropper?
You should try fly fishing Hidden Lake in Monroe County, its stocked with Rainbows in April
Keith Delorme do you fly fish it Keith?
@@WoolyBugged No, but I have seen people fly fish it before, the Bushkill Creek is great too...
Glad to see those little guys surviving there. Great job
Go fish at Salmon Creek Forest County PA. Your almost guaranteed to get a fish. Trust me I gets deep so it's less like a creek in most spots.
Another great video man!! Have you ever considered doing a dry dropper rig? It’s what I usually fish when targeting brookies. You get the best of both worlds!
You need to come out to the Western part of PA and fish some of our Keystone Select waters! I hooked up an 18in Brown today!
Nice video, you look like the guy from "The New Flyfisher" videos.
What stream is this? I live in Luzerne so it’s not far from me at all. Great video.
Awesome vid. Have you ever fished Skytop Trout Stream in Monroe County
We love our state fish. Fishing for wild brook trout separates the men from the boys.
What fly would you suggest for stocked trout this time of year
Nice area to fish, suprised you didn't run into any rattlers.
dave williams it will happen one of these days Dave!
Hey Mike I enjoy your channel. You should check out rattlesnake creek
Hey Mike! You should check out Bells Gap in Blair County. It'd be cool to see you fish my favorite pre-work quiet time spot :)
And great video as always!
Great Video. Mike.
Been getting into some very nice Browns this year..
Message me..
Will get together soon..
Keep the Great Work..
Frankie Shoenfelt wildman! What’s going on? Haven’t heard from you forever. Yes, I’ll get in touch, we need to get out here in late April or early May. Hope you’re well.
@@WoolyBugged had some phone issues..
Please contact me..
I ve got several Wild Browns ..
Over 18. This Spring..
I'm from Wyoming county where is this creek located at
I don't think u needed a net he wasn't that big 😂🤣 😂
I guess... To each his own and they are native but not a legal fish. There is a Trophy Trout stream in Lackawanna County that's artificial bait only and does have big trout in it.
