  • The best storage container/tote for fish quarantine/hospital. Today I'm showing 3 different storage bins that can be used for fishkeeping. These are meant for indoor DIY applications. Tractor supply stock tanks are cheaper and more durable, but are better for outdoor fishkeeping. The IKEA storage bins are the best. Let me know in the comments below if you found something better.

    55 gallon black bins with the yellow lid at home depot for 25 or 20 at walmart work great

    I have found the hdx tough tote is my favorite it does bow but it makes it so if you build a frame for it you can insulate it very well. Which makes it so if you heat it you can leave it outside longer. Heck its offered in a number of sizes. From 10g all the way up to 75. I'm liking the 55g tub I'm building a plywood frame and using spray insulation for it. And it will be amazing.

      Any update on your HDX tough tote with a plywood frame? How's it holding up? Was planning on going this route.
      If you went this route, did you end up putting another layer of pond linder on the inside? Heard about HDX leaking chemicals but figured i'd ask someone that's actually done it.

      @@user-uq4ly6fp6m I ended up not going with that tot. I have a cheap 30g tot with a bit of support wish there was more but it's working good so far. Fish are in it and they are alive and well. I have some insulation sheets wrapped around the pond and I put a layer over the top at night. So it stays warm easier. It is going good the endlers are breeding like crazy. Started off with 25. Now I have atleast 50.

    Can't talk about holding water etc, However I always found the clear ones with those tiny Lil bars held up for years and years for storing multiple things.. the blues always stressed out , turned white at the stress points and always broke. 🙌🍦👐

    might have to try some of these as they're definetly a lot cheaper than acylic/glass, here in the UK we can pay £1 or more per LITRE(not even a gallon) so any "hobby" animals that require tanks are automatically expensive.

    • @RickyRanchu

      Yeah it can be rough starting out. When I lived in an apartment complex I would check out what people leave next to the dumpster at the end of the month. Every now and then a free fish tank would appear!

    I’ve been looking at a ton of videos with people using these storage bins as tanks, and I forgot where I heard it, but someone suggested that if your bin is bowing, to put a ratchet strap around the perimeter!
    I really wanted to get into goldfish, but since I’m in college I don’t wanna spend money on a huge heavy tank. So instead I was gonna grab a 50 gl sterilite bin (that’s the largest size they have that’s still clear) and try that out.

    • @prdaigre4739

      Racket strap is brilliant! Thanks for sharing that tip. Bowing was what was keeping me from going with a bin tub.

    What do you think about the Cambro 182612CW135 Camwear 26" x 18" x 12" Clear Polycarbonate Food Storage Box? I was thinking about getting that and making aquarium out of it. Just kind of wanting to do my own thing instead of paying three times that much probably for a plastic aquarium.

    What is the best way to keep sponge filters down. Mine keep floating up. I had to put stone pebbles on it. The catfish keep knocking them down.. Still thinking to get fluval filter.

      @trideman7051 Před rokem

      You need to squeeze the air bubbles out while it’s underneath the water, otherwise it will keep rising. Very common in new sponge filters. Hope this helps!

      Sterilite bins are considered the best for fish keeping since it is durable, and does not break down; if the plastic isn't food/water safe, I wouldn't put fish in there (it releases toxins and can kill your fish)
