  • ( www.TFLtruck.com ) The current Nissan Frontier pickup is almost 10 year's old and yet it still sells well. But how would the Nissan Frontier sell if it had a Cummins Diesel engine. Nissan wants to know so they let TFLtruck behind the wheel of one of the only prototype Frontier pickups with the 2.8L Cummins Turbo Diesel engine. How does it drive? Check out this video as Roman has a chance to drive and review the new Nissan Frontier Cummins Diesel Prototype Pickup.

      @@brianbrewer6140 it’s funny, I watched this and commented 7 years ago now. Having had my Nissan Frontier for 10 years now I’ve decided I don’t ever want another Nissan vehicle. I have had countless problems with mine and it’s been unusually difficult to fix. I’m just nearing 200,000 miles and i can’t go a month without something going wrong. Mine has never been beat or off roaded just daily driving on country roads.

    To those saying it doesn't sound refined, remember this is a prototype. It's a proof of concept. That said, I enjoy hearing how quick it shifts and how effortless it sounds as he's driving it.

    If Nissan offered a Pro-4X version of this truck with a 6 speed manual transmission, I would definitely buy it! Nissan, keep up the good work with R & D on this project and be ready to roll this truck out soon if you do not want to loose sales to Chevy/GMC when they debut their midsize diesel trucks in 2016.

    It's ridiculous that it even has to be discussed if a diesel in this segment is a proper powertrain. It's the only engine that makes sense. There only should be diesel engines in pick up trucks.

    Everyone that offers a diesel in ANY vehicle in the U.S. sells as many as they can build, yet everyone still acts like they're dipping their toes into molten lava. WE WANT THEM, okay? For God's sake.

    I submitted my thoughts directly to Nissan a few months ago but, I would absolutely buy a Frontier with a Cummins. It is a perfect combination of truck-to-diesel engine. HD trucks are too big and expensive for some applications. A Cummins-powered Frontier in Pro 4X trim with crew cab would be awesome for towing a medium boat or trailer, all the while getting good fuel milage. Probably is frowned upon to advertise MotoMan on TFLtruck, BUT, he gives a really good Diesel v. Gasoline argument on his Jeep Grand Cherokee EcoDiesel video. Definitely worth a watch. Great video on the Frontier guys!

    This is an outstanding combination. I now have 80,000 miles on my 2010 Frontier 4X4 crew cab, and I am starting to look for a replacement. The Dodge Ecodiesel has too many reliability issues. Ford's new aluminum F150 and 2.7 Ecoboost are a big mileage disappointment. Chevy is pricing its diesel Colorado much too high. My Frontier has been wonderfully reliable and comfortable. Combine the Cummins diesel with a fresh body design, and I would buy a Frontier again in a heart beat.

    I've owned two Toyota Tacomas, and a Dodge Dakota. That all stopped four years ago when fuel became too expensive to justify owning a vehicle that got no better than 17mpg. Ever since I've driven a diesel VW Golf, which I've come to love. The one and only thing keeping me from trading in my Golf for a truck again is the lack of a diesel option in the midsize truck market. The American market has been ridiculously slow to offer what the rest of the world figured out years ago. Not everybody needs to tow. I just want a truck that makes sense in this day and age, and this Cummins Frontier is a great big step in that direction.

    As the owner of a Jeep Liberty CRD I can say that this is something I would be very much into when the time comes to replace My Jeep with something new. since the limited 2 year production of the Liberty CRD there is no small diesel truck or SUV for sale in the US market. I would really like a Wrangler diesel but Chrysler has yet to show much commitment to selling that product here. There are people that would buy this truck if Nissan built it. If I were faced with replaceing the Jeep now and this were available the Cummins reputation and previous Nissan Ownership would make it an easy buying decision.
    Chrysler sold the Liberty CRD in 05-06 with little advertising of the engine option but still sold all the ones made for US sale, then called it a failure and didn't continue to offer it. I hope Nissan Don't make that mistake with the Frontier.

    And to appreciate how far Cummins has come with their engines, the 5.0L V8 in the Titan makes 315hp/555tq which is just a little more HP than the 2003 Inline 6 5.9L HO which made 305/555. Very impressive!

    I got a 15` desert runner and love the little truck. Decent gas milage and plenty of power when needed. I will trade in once the diesel comes out, but it would be nice if they make a V6 diesel.

    If Nissan can sell this as “the lowest priced diesel truck” just like the Frontier is currently the lowest priced truck you can buy, they have a winner. Good bones and reliability is what keeps them selling. There is still a market for honest trucks out there.

    'To test how it'd do with a diesel engine' - This 4x4 has had a diesel engines sense the day it was relieved all those years ago in every other country.

    In Europe its called the Nissan Navara and only comes in 2.5 or 3 liter turbo diesels engines built by Nissan

    I like that truck with Diesel engine
    I would by it tomorrow
    It a shame we are behind the rest of the world regarding diesel powered trucks and cars.

    I would buy one. With gas at about $4 gallon it costing me about $80 a week at the pump in my current truck. I would like to see a little more luxury and tech in the Frontier.

    The last time there were compact diesels in America you have to go back into the late 70s and early to mid 80s. Dodge D50 had a under powered diesel. The S10 had a Isuzu 2.2L Pup N/A in its first generation. Ford Ranger had a Perkins 2.2L 4.135 N/A diesel and a Mitsubishi 4D55 turbo diesel. People say drop in a Cummins 4BT, while decent option, its not viable, damn thing weighs well over 800lbs without anything (except turbo plumbing but no I/C).

      Jacob Walls They just announced a cummins in their full sized titan... what makes you think they don't have the balls to do it in a smaller, cheaper to build truck of theirs? lol

    • @jacobwalls452
      @jacobwalls452 Před 9 lety

      ***** bc unless Cummins has a smaller engine, it doesn't look like the packing of the 5.0L will fit, plus who has need for a 5.0L Diesel midsize pickup....the frame and brakes wouldn't be able to handle what it could tow, people would die left and right

    Now if they would make the Frontier with a solid axle instead of IFS.

    I saw the Cummins diesel at the Chicago Auto Show and actually got into an argument with the rep that was there.This truck should've had a diesel in it years ago. The rep said they weren't gonna build it for me and needed more people to be interested.Who is not interested in a 35% fuel economy improvement?? Plus increased towing. I'm sick and tired of my 06' Toyota Tundra getting 13 mpg.I don't need a truck that pulls 10,000 lbs and is 20' long. I want something small and fuel efficient that gets great fuel economy. Just stop watching what other auto makers are gonna due and due something different.

    Would love a diesel frontier, if it was 4x4. Would love to have a 4x4 frontier diesel powered because it'll give more pulling power and be able to have more fun off road without fear of running out of fuel!

    Nissan needs to release a redesigned Frontier with this diesel. If they could make it 240 hp and 350 ft-lbs, it would fly off the dealer's lots. As it is, I think it would sell well.

    This is real easy. Make it affordable and it will sell like crazy. Price is the major problem with the midsize truck segment. There should be a noticeable price difference between full size and mid size.

    I have a '05 Frontier and it's been a good truck, other than the concern over the transmission cooler failing (no problems so far at 111K miles). I would definitely consider a mid-size diesel pickup as a replacement. 8-speed auto would be good in case the wife wants to drive it.

  • @scottysize
    @scottysize Před 10 lety

    Yup. I'd consider a Fronty with a Cummings, but as he said, I'm more interested in the 5.0L Titan, since i like a bigger truck, but yes, I want to see the Fronty get a Cummings.

    Only replacement for my 2006 Titan will be the Titan Diesel or should I say added to my nissan lineup currently in my driveway. Even with 180,xxx miles, scratched and dented from being used as farm/work truck, it's running strong and still gets compliments and looks wherever it goes especially pulling a trailer or hauling load of firewood .. Release the Titan Cummings Diesel already, so dad can get him a new truck and Jr finally gets keys to the old one.
