The R2.8 Turbo Diesel crate engine package is the most complete factory-built option on the market today. The engine comes fully dressed (with mega bracket capable of accepting optional AC Compressor) and the wiring harness for both the engine bay and interior side are as plug as play as they come.

Aaron Humphrey I don’t have one so I can’t vouch for that specific application, but I will say I deleted my 6.7 power stroke and it made a HUGE difference. Gained almost 200 hp and 300 ft lb torque, runs cooler, and best of all is the mpg. I went from 12-13 mpg average to 18-19 mpg average. And I drive like an asshole. So I could imagine someone could at least get 20-24 mpg if driving conservatively. Point being, it’s totally worth it. For my truck it was like $2000 to delete and tune it and put on an aftermarket air intake. And since I drive around 450-500 miles a week, it paid for itself in saved fuel costs very quickly.

Also adding an air-to-water intercooler as a secondary intercooler.
Here we have really high temperatures in summer.
ECM software still needs finetuning. Or at least on mine.

A good replacement swap in a Perkins Diesel Ranger, or any small pickup that may or may not have had a Diesel option to begin with. Isuzu has a number of solid diesel engines that are just begging for swaps, but since most never got certified for light duty, it's basically impossible to get them to pass emissions in anything smaller than a box truck.

Cummins provides the first crate engine kit. That does not mean it was the first 2.8L they manufactured. It was simply the first 2.8L they offered in a kit. The ISF/QSF has been around longer than the engine kit program. I’ve worked on dozens of them. Mostly in forklifts, but I’ve seen them in other applications as well.
Also, Cummins did not install that engine as you are suggesting. The story clearly states the New Legend 4X4 installed the engine.
