    • @Doc1855
      @Doc1855 Před rokem

      Our pickup is NOT for sale.
      Ours is a 11 Ranger XLT super cab 4X4 with a 4.0 V6.
      I’ve added a K&N cold air intake, 4” FlowMaster exhaust, tuned exhaust manifold, LineX spray in bed liner, skid plates, running boards, custom 2 tone paint,(Silver over Red) custom interior to match the exterior paint colors.
      It has a LSD, tow pkg, air shocks.
      Not only can it haul a yard + of topsoil, but it can haul ass.
      I’ve street raced 2 Chevys. One with a 5.7 V8 and the other with a 5.3 V8.
      I kept with them until their governor kicked in at 105mph and then my 4.0 V6 Ranger left them… which I was thankful for, as I felt the torque and hp starting to crap out at 110mph. 😁

    I bought a Pro-4X over the competitors for these reasons: long-term reliability of no turbo, best ride quality of the group, great tech, most room for a taller guy like myself, and just as capable as a TRD Pro. Most had a soft pedal from the factory allegedly almost all have a little bit of air in the ABS system the online Ranger community says to run the ABS brake bleed process using a scanner without actually bleeding any fluid from the bleeders and it gets rid of the soft pedal feeling. Informative and entertaining video! Always great to see Nathan. I like both trucks. Both are on my short list. I see the many advantages of turbocharging 4 cylinder engines in mid-size trucks, but appreciate the simplicity of 6 cylinders. Ranger styling is fine, but I much prefer the Frontier’s styling both exterior and interior. I would probably lean toward the Frontier; however, it comes down to money. Which truck could I purchase less expensively (assuming comparable trims)? No brand loyalty for me. I want the most capable truck for the money. The “for the money” is a critical variable.

    The Nissan is a totally new platform and drivetrain. The Ranger was an older platform that Ford brought from overseas. Not sure if that would make a difference, but I shopped the New Frontier before I got my Maverick, the dealers had $10,000 markups on an already expensive truck, so I left and never considered again. Based on this test, seems to be a solid choice, even if not as fast as the Ranger.

      @prestondeters5093 Před rokem

      While the naturally aspirated engine has a much more linear powerband, it does not produce near as much power down low as the turbocharged 4 cylinder. Obviously, there is a little lag in the turbo, but modern turbos spool up very quickly. Ford's 4 cylinder produces much more torque at say 1500 rpm than the V6 Nissan is using. The braking is interesting. Must be the tire difference although I suspect the tires aren't the only thing contributing to that much difference.

    I've seen a couple comments about appreciating the simplicity of an NA engine. I respect that but I'm not sure I agree in this particular comparison.
    Turbo set ups aren't actually all that complicated and in this particular comparison, factory tuned.
    In this comparison, the complexity of the turbo is added to an engine that started out much simpler. the 4 cylinder in comparison to a v6 has half as many cylinder heads/gaskets, half as many camshafts. half as many intake gaskets and exhaust manifold gaskets. two thirds as many pistons, plugs, coils, valves. HOWEVER it actually has one MORE main bearing and a generally stronger crankshaft layout.
    The intimating looking part as far as maintenance goes is the ductwork for the turbo which is dry and clamped in place generally easy to remove, after which, you are left again with a simple engine.

    • @wildbill23c
      @wildbill23c Před rokem

      Someone needs to buy one of these turbo 4 trucks and actually keep it for 20 years and let us know how it does in that period of time....anyone got a blank check, I'll be the Guinea pig on that. A lot of it comes down to maintenance which people tend to skip. My aunt is a service writer at a Ford dealer and says most people are trying to do the 7500-10k oil change intervals on these turbo engines, they don't hold up long when you do that...change the oil around 3-4k and you'll have a very good engine, skip maintenance and you'll pay dearly for it in the short/long term....another thing is to keep the transmission fluid serviced as well, 45-50k fluid/filter change intervals and it'll live a nice long life too, as well as adding an auxiliary transmission cooler.
      If I recall you can get a 6 foot bed with the Ranger if you get the extended cab, which is all I need. Sadly Chevy dropped the 6 foot bed crew cab option for the 2023 model year, Nissan you can get the 6 foot bed with the extended cab as well...I prefer the longer bed, I guess because my current Ranger has a 7 foot bed....which is extremely handy when hauling sheet goods/building materials. A 6 foot bed wouldn't be too bad, anything shorter and it makes for issues trying to keep things in the bed, stuff just wants to slide or tip out with those shorter beds.
