I was taught in driving school to adjust door mirrors out a little, so none of the car bodywork is in the reflection. This is to give you a wider view of objects, and other traffic, as you have to slightly tilt your head . My take anyway.

I keep a little so I see when backing up. I don’t have backup cam.

I was taught to just adjust until you can see only a little bit of back door handle and the rest to see outside view of the side

Yes, out eliminates the "blind spot"! This video is completely wrong!

Unless you're in a vehicle that doesn't have a rear window (like a truck, and even then you should be taking extra precautions) you shouldn't be looking in your mirrors while backing up. @@markazain8996

I used this explanation for all of my driving lessons and I just got my license after using it as well. Literally the best tricks and methods from the next street!

I adjust them so I'm not duplicating the field of view of the windscreen rear view mirror which means angling them more out than advised on this video. Otherwise I see the trailing car 3 times

This is wrong. Theres no reason to see your car in your side mirror. Mirrors should be adjusted so that as soon as you see something disappear from your rear view mirror it shows up in your side mirror and once its out of your side mirror, you should see it in your peripheral vision. This technique virtually eliminates blind spots. If you do it right you shouldn't be able to see your car in your side mirrors.

If this technique is wrong, then how do you suggest you can see how far/distance of objects to both sides of the car, especially when you back up in tight spots and your mirrors adjusted too far to reflect any bit of the car doors?

Don’t listen to this it’s wrong. BMW says to Adjust your mirrors till you can’t see your car at all. That way blind spots don’t exist. Hopefully that helps you better.

What about commercial vehicles with the little mirror on the mirror and no rear view mirror?😊

It's shocking how many people's faces i see in their driver mirror when I'm driving behind them in a straight line. Lots of people adjust the mirror so they can see the car behind them which is completely wrong. That's what your rear view mirror is for. These are the same people that end up causing accidents because they have a massive blind spot

Nah. Push them out farther. You can cover your blind spots.

  • @SargentSassy

You don't need to see the side of the car that you're in, if you adjust your mirrors fo night driving that's out and a lower view then they are properly adjusted.
