- How To Adjust Your Driver's Seat For Maximum Safety & Comfort - Safe Driving Tips
Safety begins before you even start your vehicle's engine. And one of the safety steps you can take while you're still in the driveway is to properly adjust your driver's seat. When correctly adjusted, your driver's seat can help prevent injury to yourself in case you would be involved in an accident. It can also improve your field of view, your control over your vehicle, and your comfort and fatigue level. In this video, we cover adjusting your driver's seat, your steering wheel, your head restraint, and even the best position for your hands on the steering wheel. Remember, safety never takes a back seat!

Thank you great job !!

Good video mate!
Thank you for the great class. I've been driving car for the past 12 years and I always put my head out of the car while reversing. Now that I have a new and slightly bigger car, I am required to look through irvm and orvms while reversing but mostly my car goes towards one side and not in a straight line. How can I learn to reverse in a straight line particularly when you reverse at 90 degree angle in a tight parking lot? Kindly guide me. Thank you 😊
Very clear and helpful information, good job thanks for sharing this with us ❤️👍
You're welcome!
Best explanation ever!

You are most welcome!
thanks for this video it helped a lot! im just starting out driving and working toward getting my license. and i just have a quick question, i naturally hold the steering wheel at 8 & 4 and is that always a good position to hold or do I need to switch?
Very informative watching from Montreal Quebec Canada I will do this .
Thanks for watching and for trying this out.
Great Video for driving tips Thanks Again
You bet, and thank you very much for watching.
I have failed my test twice . Ive given up hope on driving. Im confused when it comes to the right of way and I get anxious and nervous during the test. Thank you for your videos I am a new subbie
I know that there can be a lot of anxiety when it comes to taking the test. But you're doing the right thing by watching videos and learning all you can about how to do different things. That shows you really want to learn, so I'm sure you'll get that test passed before too long. There are tons of great videos out there on driving skills and even on what to expect on the test. Keep learning, then practice what you learn, and I think your confidence will grow.
i know you're comment was 5 months ago - i hope you passed your test since then! i failed my 1st exam but passed the 2nd time. I'll chock it up to first time jitters😅 I'm still doing these vids for education, I found them enjoyable and cut to the point exact.
If you haven't passed your test yet then just keep practicing and it will happen :)
@@mp2286 i know your comment was 9 months ago - i hope you passed your test since then🙂👍! I wanna go to the test but i'm afraid that i won't pass it and that would be so sad...
@@USER-fv1bl hey! that comment was 9m ago,but i passed my exam on 2018. Have driven thousands of miles since then and its actually a favorite activity now. Just bought my 1st car in November!
These vids helped me get over anxiety of merging on interstate and how to set proper (like REAL PROPER) mirrors. Still use all the tips to this day, but it's become 2nd nature.
I wish you the best on your test - what's the worst that can happen? you fail and then you try again! :)
Good for you, tho, Yeah i should try when i'm ready, THX
this was a awesome video . Does anyone ever get chest pain from their seatbelt ?
great tips, Mr. Cravens

Excellent!! Clear easy explanation and reasons for every adjustments made👍👍.
Going to forward this video to my son who is a new driver who unfortunately was not corrected by the instructor. Practically every position his is, is incorrect, the positioning of the hands and feet, steering wheel too low - touching the knees. Now he just won't listen to me😒...Well what do mom's know anyway?
Will watch some more of your videos. Thank you.

Appreciate you sir
Thank you, and I hope it helped in some way.
How to adjust mirrors? please help and thanks!
Awesome
Recently got a Kia rio and I’m having a hard time getting comfortable. I’ve applied a lot of the tips in the video but still can’t get comfortable. When I’m close enough to the steering wheel to rest my wrist on it, I don’t have enough leg space and I’m feeling it. If I’m too far I feel like I’m stretching. I’m 5 11 so not extremely tall. I’ve only got 2 adjustments on the seat. And the steering wheel only goes up and down. Any advice/ tips would be greatly appreciated? By the way thanks for posting this video.
Helpful thank you
Glad to hear it helped!
I 'm 5'8" I have a subcompact car I drive 1 hr to work somes times an hour an half. My knee hurts a little while into the commute. I cannot move my car seat any further back. Any tips? When traffic isn't bad, I use cruise control and that greatly helps me not have knee pain.
Thank you! Need more imput "jonny 5 is alive"
Haha! Thanks for watching!
Pls make a video on mirror adjustments
I feel like mike from breaking bad is teaching me lol
Love Mike...great character and great show! Glad I still get to see him on Better Call Saul. Maybe I've seen too much of him and I'm starting to become him!
@@HowSkills haha that’s cool! So excited for season 6 of Better Call Saul. Great video btw, this was a huge help.
Excellent
Thanks for watching!
This is something I've been having trouble with, I've recently got my license and looking for a car but alot of the cars in my budget are on the smaller side. And I'm 6'1.
It’s a lot tougher when you’re tall to find a vehicle that has the interior room you need. Sometimes the right seat adjustment can make a big difference. Reclining the seat a notch or two more can give you some extra headroom, but it has to be at an angle that’s still comfortable and doesn’t feel awkward. Keep looking and don’t settle for a vehicle that’s not right for you.
@@HowSkills Cheers man, I learnt to drive in my Father's Ford Territory and I'm pretty comfortable in that car. So probably gotta look at small SUVs or something.
I have all kinds of problems with this if I'm driving a 4 door automatic. If it's a 2 door I can get comfortable or a manual I have no problem at all. Otherwise I always have to lean forward to see anything on the driver's side.
Good for new drivers indeed. The only one thing no one considers if for short torsos. I can't wear a seatbelt because it strangles me. I've tried everything.
Good info
Thank you, and I appreciate your watching the video!
Great tips
Thanks for watching, and I hope some of it helped you!
@@HowSkills it did 😊 thank u. Used some today.
Nice sir 👌
Thank you for watching!
Wow Mike Ehrmantraut from breaking bad has youtube channel
Nice Impala.
It has been a good car for us.
Do you keep the seat parallel the that column in between front window and back window on drivers side? I have a new car and when I check blind spot I only see that column. I’m tall so not sure how I shall set my seat.
First comment. Thanks for your time
You were fast! Thank you!
Nice
Thanks for watching!
Hi! I’ve been driving for 9 years and just last week I’ve got a new car and I can’t get comfortable in it and my left knee is hurting from using the clutch. Any advice please? It’s a brand new car I love it but I just can’t seem to get my positioning right in it.
After doing all the adjustments I feel like everything is fine except that I can't put my wrists on the top of the steering wheel. If I move the seat closer I'll be too close to the pedals and my knee will hit the steering wheel column
Can you adjust the angle of the back of the seat forward a little to get your wrists closer to the top of the steering wheel? If you can’t get it set where your wrists are exactly positioned on the wheel like you’d want, then get it as close as possible and I’m sure you’ll be fine. Just try for as much arm extension as you can get.
I'm short, so This was helpful.
Very glad to hear it helped!
I'm newbie here, im not comfortable on my instructor car ,nexttime I will adjust.. ,im struggling also my hand how to put proper position on the wheel specially in roundbout,I'm tense my instructor always scolded me ..thanks you
You’re welcome, and I hope the video helped. It takes some experimenting to get the seating position just right, and I believe you will figure it out. Best of luck to you!
since i have you here, what does Shift L mean on toyota suv?
Hello Stan. A question. With the headrest, should it be in CONSTANT contact with the back of your head while driving? Same for shoulders?
Should be, if not you're tilting your head forward leading to neck pains. Also leads to shoulder pain
I am short and cannot see the hood edges, is that ok ? Are there seat height adjustments that raise the entire seat and not just the front part of seat ?
Some vehicles do have an adjustment for that, but if yours doesn’t, you could try adding a seat cushion to raise you up a little bit and see if that’s enough to help.
Who came here after the mechanic moved the seat haha
An easy way to remember what turn signal to use is. Always signal in the direction you will be turning the steering wheel. ( Steering the car to the right side is a right turn. ) This applies to both forward and reverse movement. 🚙😎
We have the same car that’s an impala the pedals on that car uncomfortable preferably the brake what’s your foot position on this car
It has felt a little uncomfortable to me at times, and I try to adjust my seat's position to where I'm just short of having to stretch my right foot to fully depress the gas pedal, should I need to. With the gas pedal in reach without having to stretch to use it, I feel like I'm able to move my foot over to the brake quickly when necessary. The pedal arrangement on this vehicle isn't as comfortable as I've experienced on other vehicles I've owned, but I've gotten used to it.
@@HowSkills 😌 I’m glad it wasn’t just in my head yes me too I have gotten used to it as well thank you very much 😊
The steering wheel looks tilted at an angle so that airbag will deploy and hit the face. Also AAA recommends placing thumbs on wheel and NOT as depicted at 3:45 because airbag force could "jam" the thumb joint.
more control for spirited driving as well
i'm short so I have tons of head room XD
The more head room the better!
I'm from Ireland.............. first thing I thought was where is the clutch? How will he change gear?
I used to mainly drive vehicles with manual transmissions, and I still find myself putting my hand on the automatic gear selector as if I'm going to push the clutch down and change gears. Probably haven't driven one now in over 10 years, but I'm sure I could get in one and drive right away.
My car’s head restraint is too high for me and causes my head to bend forward leading to neck pain. Do you know how I might fix this? I already have my seat at its highest
Most head restraints are tilted forward as they are designed for safety more than comfort. You might try leaning your seat back a slight bit more to see if that helps, as long as it doesn't make it harder to see over the dash. This is a problem in some vehicles more than others, and can cause some real discomfort. Others have also tried a neck pillow/cushion to put behind them to add a little spacing between them and the head restraint. But that could negate some of the safety aspect of the restraint. The design is intended to decrease the distance your head and neck has to move in case of a collision, so tilting it forward decreases that distance and lessens the chance of serious injury.
You migh to check your owner's manual to see if there's a CZcams video to adjust it specific car model.

If I adjust my seat down I can’t see above my dash😭
It's hard to get it just right sometimes, and if you can't see above your dash, then don't adjust that far down. Sometimes you have to compromise a little due to how your car is made and your height relative to your dash while you're sitting, so do what you can to find the best seat adjustments for you.
My knees touch the steering wheel but if I put it any higher then it obstructs my view i kind of have to angle my legs to touch the pedals comfortably what should I do
Im giving it a thought after 6 years just because my foot is starting to pain in traffic. For 6 years i was driving with too far away sitting position and my legs were stretched out
That can make a big difference if you're legs are completely stretched out. It's hard to be comfortable for very long in that position, so yeah, you might try experimenting with seat position to find something that works better for you.
The right leg must be straight with the brake.
Fits perfectly rear-facing in our truck, which has a slightly smaller back seats. czcams.com/users/postUgkx6_FKRYB2ClSPRyjcd8HptiCS3EiQoNX4 Feels as comfy and plush as our Graco Contender carseat
