#RolandGarros - Sport
Imagine winning such long matches and Rafa awaiting in finals, that too on clay. Hahaha.
I would be mad lol, the amount of bad luck for this to happen lol
I don't think the long matches are too much of a problem if you get a day's rest. But once again because the French Open are the worst, no roof to finish the SF matches the same day and handing over the trophy without a ball being struck to the first SF winner. Not that it was likely Djokovic or Thiem would have beaten Nadal anyway, but playing 3 days in a row doesn't help.
@@GameOvais what are you saying man that either of them would've beaten Rafa....LOL
@@GameOvais they warm up longer than they play on rest day , plus thiem at 25 should not complain at all
The last two people who commented on this are complete and utter clowns. I could go into detail why they are, but everyone who's not mentally challenged can see the reason, so I'm not going to elaborate. It would be a waste of time
Prime Thiem was a menace…very sad to see him succumb to injuries. Just puts the big three into perspective!
We really missed out on a decade of the most exciting brand of tennis - that straight arm one handed backhand is amazing - able to hit back foot above the shoulder rifles due to the straight arm
Finally a good highlight video from a grand slam.
Rolland Garros YT channel has been absolute bomb lately
PE Expert yo
Only takes a global pandemic to force them to upload highlights longer than 2 mins
Djokovic-Thiem matches are extremely high quality
thier matches become interesting because of thiem . we expect djokovic to play high quality but never expect thiem to do it . thiem is another level when he plays big 3 thats why he has a good h2h against them.
Still the best of the young guns - withthe best results against the big three; a class player
Hope he can get over injury and get back on top
He's 28-29 lol, not a 'young gun' anymore
He's the only one other than Andy Murray with at least 5 wins against each of the Big3. Def would have won a lot more slams had it not been for his injuries.
@@jakehuang3545Five wins each? Really?
41:20 Thiem has massive balls of pure steel to pull off exquisite drop shot at critical stage of the match.
This match up always makes unbelievable matches
Novak feels really uncomfortable against Thiem and Wawrinka, two guys who completely smash the ball with power and can get you a winner or a counter form loterally any position on the court. I think those two things are the reason he always has it so hard against them.
15:07 How Thiem won this point is beyond me
It involved a Djokovic overhead
it happens
the spin!
@@lifeisfine1997 Novak is a legend but he can't smash to save his life lol
He noticed the wind was his direction and so his shots were slow and he used that to construct the perfect drop. Very intelligent.
46 minutes of highlights only in order to survive during the quarantine.. thank you RG ♥️
Who knew this would be his last big match win at RG. Such a remarkable player, career ended by unfortunate injuries.
I would love to see Thiem winning a Grand Slam title
I think he will 😉
he'll have a good chance to own the future of tennis. pretty mentally tough kid compared to some of the other crybabies like Medvedev and Zverev
shortyrags medvedev is mentally tough
@@alecmorariu6291 yeah I think so
@@shortyrags very true man
He was so much fun to watch when he was on fire. Hope he can come back!
It was their 3rd meeting at RG not their second: 2016 Semis and 2017 Quarter
Exactly .....i just asked the question lol
42:48 that Thiem's forehand is quite similar to Nadal's with the rotation of the wrist and that follow through hitting the ball cross court shows that how much heavy spin he puts on the ball just like Rafa does. 👌👍
This is the second best RG match that I have seen (first: 2013 SF Novak-Rafa)
Edit: third best is Novak-Rafa RG 2021
The RG 2012 final displayed a superior level than the RG 2021 semifinal, in my view. Both Nadal and Djokovic were younger, in their prime, and fiercely disputed the four sets. In the RG 2021 semifinal Nadal's foot injury pain increased in the last set, and therefore his physical shape was questionable, making it a boring, one-sided last set. In fact, only the third set of the RG 2021 semifinal was close and epic in a true sense of the word. Unfortuantely, Nadal had to skip the rest of the 2021 season due to the aforementioned foot injury.
RG 2011 Fed and Nole > this match
28:49 Djoko had it coming in US Open 2020 lol
exactly. fucking clown he is.
@@TrollMagic1987 Stfu. He is the GOAT and you are the clown.
@@aniketbhat4962 He is currently. He will never be in the hearts of people throughout the world. Unlike Rafa and Roger.
He will be there. He is the goat. Just shut your mouth @ Abyssinia Selassie
@@dgmobbdeep yeah only because he is from Serbia, because of the 90' propaganda against Serbia from USA and Europe. Even so he is the GOAT, like him or not
Peak Thiem was absolutely a beautiful sight. Such a shame it lasted for such a short while.
4:05. WRONG! How can you not know this. It's their third. Djoko won 2016 SF in straights. Thiem won 2017 QF in straights.
I don't get how they don't know their own stats!
The moment when fans know better than the ppl that are PAID for :DDD
Top 4 seeds in semi final and RG ruined it having both matches on that super windy day
It didn't affect the quality
I still remember watching this nerve wracking encounter! Being a Novak supporter, the tension was unbearable in the fifth set at every point on Novak's serve! Thiem deserved it totally.
When Novak saved 2 match points like it was nothing, that was the only time I felt that Novak could win this one! Otherwise it was Thiem's match to lose!
Thank you for bringing this match (and all the others) in such good edition. Good job!
1:56 that's good attitude of players to chat with kids...😍🥰
Hopefully at some point he start showing some respect for the Game and stop mocking injuries to slow the opponents game when he is losing. #GulbisIsBigger
Stay salty lol
Dom Thiem of 2018-2020 was something else... He beat the top 3 multiple times .... He lost to them in close and tight matches, he won a GS,he played multiple GS finals and multiple semi finals beating all highly ranked and rated players .... But post 2020-21 he has just been an ordinary player who comes into every tournament just to loose against good players.... Hope he finds his game and re-invents himself in the 2023-24 season
THANK YOU RG!!!
My God!! How can you win a 4-hour thriller like this with that monstrous forehand winner?
4:04 it was their third match at Roland Garros. You forgot their semifinals mtch in 2016 which Nole won in straight sets very easily.
exactly they forgot that
2017 was a brutal display lol
@@jimnosnow4484 yeah it was
Thiem was a boy then. Djokovic got an easy opponent.
@@TheRafaelBond yeah true
I am Djoker's devoted fan but at this match he wasn't willing to do something more...Thiem deserved to win 100%.
My thoughts exactly as I was watching this battle: Djoker was complaining, Thiem just dealt with the conditions and hit the ball accordingly.
@@MartinJohnZ exact same thoughts as you. Was a little disappointing as a massive Nole fan
Djoko hates
1. Windy conditions
2. Hot conditions
3. Sunny conditions
4. Humidity etc
Rafael Nadal hates
1. Night sessions
2. Low bounces
3. Closed roof etc
Rafael Nadal have more Vitamin D than Novak Djokovic is my feeling.
How it hurts me to watch this game and see how Thiem is doing now (today he lost against travaglia in a challenger)
It looks like RG finally hired a video editor. 😂
I have waited this video for so long!

Blend Restelica, I agree to an extent. Although great heart from Fed to come back anyway. But yh Del Potro deserved that match

Great Game. Thank U, RG!
That was a great match. Love Thiem
What a shame to see all these seats empty. These legends definitely deserve better.
how do they play tennis if conditions are so bad that spectators can't/don't want to show up. Had to be canceled
they were empty only in the beginning
@@damerkharmawphlang4196 even on the second day of playing it was 2/3 full at best.

Great match
Nobody's talking abt that net chord @23:40!! Could've been a game changer.
given novak shanked two returns that were lucky to stay in just prior to the winning shot then I think Theim deserved that bit of luck there.
In the Wimbledon 2019 final that net cordon saved him during first serve when fed had a match point at 40-15. Destiny had other plans 😁
great job

he won 2021 soooo
I know Djokovic has his detractors, but his actions during the post-match handshake are a great example of his sportsmanship, win or lose
Seconded. Also, how he complimented Thiem during the post-match interview, calling him one of the best players in the world.
Such a shame that there is so few spectators ...
No one likes sand in their mouths
Theim gets nervous when he serves for set or match and end up with broken serve specially in big matches..
PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE Make one of these videos about the RG Semi Final 2021 Novak v Raf
One of the best tennis ever played in history
28:28 djokovic needs to be careful when hitting the ball in frustration. That hits a member of the crowd or linesmen and ball boys, he's disqualified
yeah for sure, sometimes players don't think in the moment but stuff like that can go bad
He hit the ball right on the ground man. You guys try so hard to find an excuse to hate on the man😂
Sunflowers of inferno nah bro I love joker, idc who it is Federer Nadal him I’ll say the same, it’s clear by the sound the ball made that it hit the barrier with force, more than enough force to give someone a black eye if it managed to hit there, and that’s the fact...
@@sunflowersofinferno7904 lolll..
He hit the ball straight left, straight in the direction of the crowd. I'd say the same if nadal or federer did that
@@Tronny exactly
Dominic is my new favourite. He has power, endurance and technique. The holy trinity.
power, endurance and technique are nothing without mentality; look at Wawrinka
People who say he didn't deserve to be disqualified should know he does this too many times. In 2016 French open his racquet was inches from hitting a linesman. Finally caught up to him.
Please add full match !
Amazing match ;)
He took down a genious of all time and he knew it
Match complete !!! Pleaseee!!!
It took a worldwide epidemic and quarantine for Roland Garros to post up extended highlights. Wow now we know what kind of incentives you guys need.
It’s ridiculous that Djokovic managed to take this to 5. His game focuses on taking the ball early and hitting close to the baseline, while Thiem takes it later and hits with a lot of spin. In these conditions, Thiem is by far the favourite.
True i would always take thiem when they play on clay
Disagree. Both players are heavily affected by the conditions (wind, rain is going to throw off your game no matter what) and his experience actually winning RG and beating Nadal at RG always gave him an edge. As usual his antics always help, although not as much in this case.
Thiem would always be better during windy conditions cause of the spin he uses
Please Everybody, let's send very high prayers for Dominic Thiem, he derserves so much to be back again
Match was unbelievable. Congrats to No1e 👏🐐❤️
austria did it to serbia again
You lost both world wars.
@@dushandvr5765 and Serbia got occupied both times. Which was the point of the comment.
@@Anon-nv7bp The point is that Serbia was occupied only after Bulgaria intervened in the war, and you lost two big battles in which you lost almost 300,000 soldiers.
@@play_boy7543 Yes, and in World War II we Germans settled it again by simply overrunning Yugoslavia
@@cedric8721 It is a pity that the communists humiliated you in the end.
What about that net call on 29:08. Novak had the right to be filthy. That was so lucky haha.
Really disappointed he didn’t beat Novak in Australia. He had the match in his hands and blinked, plain and simple. Hopefully he has more chances in the future although nothing is guaranteed in sport.
Well, people seem to 'blink' a lot against Djokovic when they are on the verge of winning. Happened to Nadal (breakpoints deep in the fifth set at Wimbledon 2018, and break up in the fifth set in AO 2012), happened to Federer a few times (obviously), and yeah, Dominic should be proud to join that illustrious list.
ashb001 lol I wouldn’t say Rafa blinked at Wimbledon, that was a 50/50 match that could’ve gone either way. I believe Rafa saved some break points early in the 5th so he could’ve been out before 7-7 had Novak converted. Australia 2012 also hard to say a blink match as Novak was in control of that one before Rafa somehow wrestled away the 4th set and carried that momentum to a tenuous one break lead in the fifth. Should he have won it? Probably. But not comparable to Thiem’s choke job IMO. As for Federer squandering match points at Wimbledon ‘19, I’m gonna leave that for the Fed fans to dissect. It was a strange “meltdown” to say the least!
Ryan Knowles Gotta agree with you.Novak did nothing special to win that match(not taking anything away from Novak though,he is a great champion - one of the GOATs - but he played bad in that match).
@@ryanknowles I disagree with you on both examples - Rafa has now *TWICE* lost when *leading* in the fifth set - and regardless of how well he fought in those matches, he should have put them away: AO 2012 to Djokovic and AO 2017 (to Federer). In addition, he actually came very close to losing the USO 2019 after being *up* two sets to love against Medvedev, who was one or two shots away from taking the match. Djokovic seldom loses from a lead, especially as the match goes on.
And yeah, Nadal's misses at Wimbledon 2018 is just as bad. Who serves a weak 101 mph on grass at such a crucial juncture? czcams.com/video/V96sSCV03ng/video.html ... In contrast, Djokovic's play at key points is on a whole different dimension. You wanna guess Novak's SECOND serve speed on the *first* point of the nerve wracking final set tiebreak of Wimbledon 2019? 105 mph. Yes, thats the difference. Its those 1-2 seconds of resolve and grit that define true greatness. See that second serve here: czcams.com/video/TUikJi0Qhhw/video.html
16:55 exactly the same point as the match point of their match at rg 2017
And The Cecchinato vs Djokovic match point in 2018
We miss you Domi
Out of all the finals that Dominic has been in, I think the Madrid 2018 final was the one final I really wish he'd won. He was playing Zverev and had such a smooth ride to the final I thought there was no way he'd lose. But it slipped. All the other major finals are a tough task, not that I'm not proud of him its just he is always coming in as the underdog and his victories are always that much better considering. But Madrid was truly more devastating in my eyes. This match though I had a feeling there was no way he could lose it.
Federer - Del Potro 2009 SF would be great to refresh this classic ..very underrated match!
Great match from Thiem!

Can’t wait to see The Dominator Thiem beat Novak again in 2021 RG.
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA YOU ARE SO FUNNY 🤣🤣 DOMINATOR IS OUT 😂😂😂
I wanted to see Thiem vs Fed on clay. Insane firepower plays
2019 were the best 4 claycourt player in the last 17-18 yars in the semi-final, but the matches in the semi final was maybe the weakest matches by the the french open because of the conditions on that day, for the same reason even the first semi final between federer and nadal was playfully really bad. The french open organisation actually should have canceled both semi matches matches on friday because of the wind .
I think in good weather both matches woud be become classic...i mean nadal would still win the french open, but what the organisator do on that day WAS A SHAME FOR THE TENNIS SPORTS
Weather conditions are parts of what tennis is. I agree that it's a shame for the quality of tennis they produced on that day, but you can't blame the FO's organization for that
@@mariussaur8870 youre right, but on that day the wind was extreme i never saw something like that
@Luis Alejandro this is a straight lie. Thiem complained numerous times during the match (for example he yelled at least twice in German "Scheiß Beton-Platz" = shitty concrete court) and Federer complained too during the match. Don't remember if Nadal said something but he was winning in straight sets so there was no reason for him to be angry.
@Luis Alejandro of course it is. The wind blew all the clay away on one side which only left the hard ground of clay courts which is similar to a concrete court.
Yeah. I feel the weather in Roger vs Rafa's match was really bad. Could have been a much better match quality wise. I remember it was getting impossible to hold serve from one end in that match.

I think the breaks benefitted Djokovic greatly here, with Thiem's biggest strength being his physicality and power, being able to rest and refresh a bit kept him from getting too tired out; it's often we see the fitter player winning on these 5-set matches (like the Murray-Gasquet match) where attrition is the real decider.
I think with Thiem's solid mindset and talent, if he can minimise his errors he will be a real threat over the next few years, I think he'll win a slam on clay at some point (maybe catching Nadal on an off day)
