Thank you for this mini documentary. Learning that Guga and his family lost their father at such a young age makes me understand that his triumph in 1997 was remarkable in so many more ways than just him being ranked no. 70 at the time, but the inner strength it took for him to get there. So touching and beautiful.

I had no idea Guga was ranked no. 70 when he won his first slam - crazy! I loved hearing his thought process during each of the tourneys he won. 💘

most of the times he lost in first, second round or quarter finals, at best. This semifinal was his best result in Paris. In other words, he didn't have tennis enough to play on clay, where serve is not so important. A real champion is a winner on evey surface, like Nadal, Borg, Federer...etc

wow wow! after watching Nadal vs Djokovic 2009 Madrid, djokovic looks SO much more clinical here. his shots are so much wider in angle, so much deeper consistently, and so much faster. you can really see how djokovic grew from 2009 to his monumental season in 2011. and comparing that match and this one makes you appreciate rhe differences between each of the big three’s styles so much. that 2009 madrid match with rafa was full of long, slow rallies, a LOT of spin, a LOT of height on the ball, many moonballs. as per Rafa’s style. when you switch to this match with federer you IMMEDIATELY notice how much shorter and FASTER the rallies are. how much lower the balls are, and most importantly, how much more often federer comes into the court and into the net than rafa. Rafa and Nole are baseliners and while it’s successful, it can get boring. it’s so refreshing to see federer succeed against defensive baselining with a relatively more serve-and-volley type approach! if someone asked me to explain the differences between the big three, I would have them watch Madrid 2009, and this match, RG 2011. and afterwards I would show them a match between the best players today, who are great in their own right, but I would want them to appreciate just how great the BIG THREE were in their prime.
