    Yeah, football managers are being more selfish nowadays because you're sacking them at the first bad turn. Of course they're going to look for short term solutions, being that they statistically have the shortest lifespan at the club. Fergie would've been sacked in his 3th season at Utd if it was as cutthroat as it is now.

      He did tell us, he just didn't want to say it directly because he wanted to avoid unpleasant headlines for both him and Patrick. Totally understandable. But if you listen to the last couple of minutes you'll hear why he sacked Patrick.

    Nice try Jake, but your weak attempt to prise a headline grabbing reason as to WHY Viera got the sack, failed miserably. You got sweet FA from Steve as to the reasons and the little things Steve saw that lead him to conclude he needed to sack Viera

    I think he has a point. Sheffield Wednesday owner opened up to why he fired Darren Moore and cleared up his name from speculation that he just fired a man who got them promoted. This man Parish took a decision which to most of us outside seems utterly clueless and refused to give us transparent information why. Don't blame anyone that blames you when it backfires under Roy next season.

    • @ay613
      @ay613 Před 9 měsíci +1

      Vieira needed to be sacked. What Roy did already proved it. Get over it.

    • @charlesmuhanguzi3250
      @charlesmuhanguzi3250 Před 9 měsíci

      @ay613 Let's not argue about this. Wait for the season to start you'll see why he didn't need to be sacked and that this was a silly decision. Roy literally managed the easiest games in the season and Viera was fired for not winning against the best teams in the league. And when Roy won some easy games everyone was like... oh what an improvement. Are you crazy? Every team is gonna improve coming from playing man city to a relegated Southampton.

      In fact you answered the actual posed question, which was to paraphrase: "Why not give 100% information on decision-making eg such as sacking the manager, to the fans?"
      The reason that is very, very naive but "sounds good" and does not happen in reality, is very obvious:
      1. People don't use the information into rational thinking
      2. People use information to fit their own emotions
      3. People use information to fit their SET beliefs already
      You're a good example: You wanted Vieira to do well, you were so emotionally involved in that belief that when you heard he'd been sacked:
      "most of us outside seems utterly clueless."
      And yet it was obvious he was likely going to be sacked if you'd used the information already available to do a basic risk-analysis of Palace's options at that point in the season.
      Let's look at the reactions:
      * Press media = 90% Emotional Reaction to Vieira sacking with some nasty/vicious false accusations
      * Fans = 70% felt their Beliefs were that it was a mistake to sack Vieira again with hyper-emotional nasty accusations thrown around (there were some astute 30% who realized his performances were strong evidence he'd get sacked)
      If you hear what Parish says, he has glowing respect for Vieira so the above reactions were 100% too emotional and too rigid in their beliefs and not using the information in front of them (apart from the press selling sensationalism and stirring people's emotions up... ). All while many managers 8/9 had already gone in the bottom half of the table!
      Now, instead of "feeding more fuel to the above fire" (emotions/belief) what did the Palace decision-makers do?
      1. They already had calculations for worst-case contingency If by Then we are X points we need to think of a change of manager
      2. What's the trend of the performances in addition to the results? If multiple negative signs then this reinforces 1.
      3. What's the state of mentality around the group of staff, players, manager etc? If negative this reinforces 1.
      4. What time is left with how many realistic points: How can we maximize those and minimize risk ie deal with 1-3 while providing a new solution that improves ie 4?
      Namely they did a RISK-ANALYSIS and got on with using the information to save the club.
      Could Vieira have got the points? Probably. But with MORE risk.
      Was hiring Hodgson at the time more likely to REDUCE risk and BOOST success rate? Probably. Did the stats of those 10/11 games prove this? Not conclusively but the boost in both stats, the "safer SOONER" form of the wins, the general positive boost of a new manager and the boost the players felt all suggest more likely than less likely the change worked.
      What was the priority at that time as Parish said: To prioritize saving the club from relegation THEN dealing with next season etc.
      So even your argument is poorly conceived, has not even listened to the information available and you've given a great example of being too emotionally-attached to your belief that the manager should not have been sacked.
      Bear in mind this is absolutely nothing against good self: MOST PEOPLE do this. And yes you're right, this season could be a challenge because of changing the manager! That's a fair argument to make, but at the time with the evidence accrued, it's clear it was a brilliant decision to maximize safety.
      What will improve this season the most is obvious: It's one or two crucial new players eg Striker that can score 10-15 goals would solve most problems and then a few other positions. This is especially true after losing Zaha's stats contribution from last season, in a similar way to Vieira losing Gallagher's contribution previous season.
      In that sense both Vieira and Hodgson are in similar predicaments and we'll have to see how this season unfolds and if Hodgson can do something Vieira was not able to in similar problem-solving context.

      @@charlesmuhanguzi3250 I think there were 14 sackings in the EPL for the 2022-23 season. How were all those announcements made:
      A) Detailed 36-page report and analysis
      B) Press Releases and Platitudes
      You prove why B) works and why ALL 14 sackings communicated using that approach. Information would never made any difference to most people's emotions and beliefs.
