Kevin Johnson was not just some random player, though, nor was he just a "pretty good player in his era," as you say in the video. He was one of the greatest point guards (one of the greatest guards, really) in the history of the sport, both one of the most intelligent and one of the most explosive. In the season that Iverson is referring to ('96-'97), K.J. constituted the best point guard in the league and the second-best guard behind only Michael Jordan, even if he generally failed to receive that recognition from the media. The difference is that Iverson, unlike some reporter or studio host, was actually out there on the court, knew the game, and knew the truth.
Or you could examine the statistics: that year, K.J. became the first player in NBA history (since joined only by John Stockton and Steve Nash) to rank in the top-three in both assists per game (9.3) and three-point field goal percentage (.441). He also ranked fifteenth in free throw percentage (.852, in 7.4 attempts per game, which placed third among guards and first among point guards), twentieth in the league in points per game game (20.1), thirty-first in field goal percentage (.496, fourth among guards and first among guards who averaged at least 15.0 points per contest), thirty-third in two-point field goal percentage (.512, the same mark as Hakeem Olajuwon), and fourth in the league in True Shooting Percentage (.631, the only player in the top eight who averaged at least 15.0 points per game). For what it is worth, K.J. also placed third in the league in Offensive Win Shares (10.2), behind only Michael Jordan and Karl Malone, and third in Offensive Rating (124.2), trailing only Mario Elie and John Stockton, both of whom scored far less.
Kevin Johnson dueled, and in some cases out-dueled, Magic Johnson and Hakeem Olajuwon in playoff games, and when their primes overlapped, K.J. posted numbers that mirrored and in some instances surpassed Magic's in a number of categories. No small guard in the history of the sport has combined efficiency and explosiveness as well as Kevin Johnson.
Kevin Johnson is one of the greatest of all time
not one of the greatest in my eyes but certainly one of the most underrated
@@justthefaxYT his numbers was right behind Magic in the early 90s despite being 6 inches shorter. his between the legs cross was unstoppable at level 1 and had it not been for hakeem he woulda took phx passed the rockets himself. He also baptized hakeem. And he came back and started in the post season for kidd after being retired for years. Hes a Top 15-18 PG all time
@@justthefaxYT you must be smokin that good crack
@@TroyBrownTV KJ better than any modern PG outside of curry
@@TroyBrownTV stfu Kevin Johnson ain't no goat but he is a very good player
Damn where is the highlights of KJ vs Iverson?
I remember that game! KJ gave him that WORK!
This cool bruh🥶🥶🥶🔥🔥🤙🏾
I need to see this actually game
KJ had a strong basketball IQ
KJ was really good. He was behind Magic in many numbers in his prime
Kyrie > A.i. allegedly
KJ was a great guard and really should been 6 time all star but politics lead only 3 all star
If you’re going to bleep out “ass” just don’t say it. 🤦🏿♂️
Also, if you don’t have the necessary highlights you’re not doing more than regurgitating what was already said on the podcast.
😂
AI got the craziest handles
faxxxx
Kyrie
Where’s the highlight
