    There is no need to remove neither the tank nor the headlight base. Push in the Grills ring sideways on the the headlight frame. Thats it.

      I would have to disagree. 1 you end of scratching the fixture and 2 it doesn't fit. Maybe on yours but I tried all angles on mine man and it wasn't budging.

    After snipping wires I found that the new ring will slip over the stock housing! Step 1 should be: see if you can slip the ring on first. This will save a LOT of time cutting wires and removing the entire headlight housing. In fact the only tool needed on a Sportster would be a Phillips screw driver to remove the stock headlight ring !

    I took the headlight off only, you can squeeze the plug out and pull it out without having to remove anything. Only thing I found stressful was lining up the grill so it was tight without the HD logo on the light moving!

    I just slipped it over at the top and slipped on just fine, to me longer getting it out the package

    Electrical tape can help with the frame moving.

    Nice edit from the live version. :) Great video! Always seems to take longer than expected.

      I know, takes hours of footage to make a 10 minute video.

    That looks really sweet, and something I want to do to my bike. May be a silly question, but does the grille block any of the light output - do you see the grid patterns in the beam of light or is the light output unaffected?

  • @KwyattCreations
    @KwyattCreations Před 7 lety +2

    The grill blocks photon rays and directs them back into the luminescent frequency modulator and kills horsepower, not to mention weight reduction

    Anyone else have a problem where the grill is loose and can rotate freely?

    • @glennsmooth
      @glennsmooth Před 5 lety

      Not super loose but not exactly tight either. Over time I bet it will vibrate loose.

    The back ring just slipped right over my housing without having to take it off the bike. I have a 2012 48 so maybe the housing is different? It seems to work fine. I couldn't get the cage to fully screw onto the ring.

      nope, the headlight is exactly the same on an Iron. I'm betting all sportsters have the same headlight dimensions.

  • @astrobear1236
    @astrobear1236 Před 4 lety

    Do you need to empty the gas tank before you take it off or does it have a 1 way valve on it? Also some umbers or electricle tape around the edge should help stop the wiggle and slippage. Do you still like the grill? I bought the same one and have been debating putting it on.

  • @TheSlybonfas

    Why removing the tank? you can unplug sparkplug wire, then slide your hand to the headlight connector behind the black plastic panel

    • @nasomaz
      @nasomaz Před 6 lety

      I was thinking the same thing! Is it really necessary to remove the tank? I have the same bike and will be doing this mod soon. I think just giving myself room to unplug the harness will do the trick

    How to do this on xl1200c?

  • @vmendus
    @vmendus Před rokem

    do you have any feedback after riding with it? I did install mine, but it does not hold the headlight in place, I even tried already some sealing rubber pads. It trembles and make noise, so I am not sure if I should continue tinker it further or just get rid of it. Seems that bad-ass look piece was not thoroughly thought of during manufacturing

    • @Bo-gc2th
      @Bo-gc2th Před rokem

      Have you figured out a solution to this problem?

    • @vmendus
      @vmendus Před rokem

      @@Bo-gc2th yep, kind of. Was about to send it back but decided to give it a last chance. So, I bought a heavy-duty double-sided tape to fix the metal ring first to the lamp (I have LED). Otherwise the lamp slips around. Then I got furniture pads, cut it and stick it to the inside of the grill in several locations to push the lamp as well as on the back ring of the grill. So I basically glued this soft rubber padding everywhere possible and now it seems to hold. But of course, the fact that one has to pay his money and then to compensate the lack of proper designing is annoying.

    do you not adjust your headlight aim? i was curious about that because i also have the RSD speedo relocator and wisamic. i have the headlight at the most downward setting but the beam is still way too high

    Never use a crescent wrench on your bike. Invest in some wrenches. Those stupid seat thumb bolts are an invitation for someone to steal your seat. Buy one with a security bolt and a smooth cap cover.

  • @debaronAZK
    @debaronAZK Před 4 lety

    all this shit Dan does is entirely unnecessary, like several others have commented. here's a step by step tutorial:
    1. unscrew the grill from the ring it comes with
    2. unscrew the silver ring on your headlight (be prepared to catch the headlight because it's going to be loose)
    3. put the grill ring sideways onto the headlight frame. move it around until it's completely on the frame.
    4. grab the grill, put it over your headlight. maybe shove your finger into the grill and press against the headlight if you want it to stay in place when you're screwing the grill on.
    5. screw the ring you placed over the headlight base into the grill.
    took about 5 minutes.

      @glennsmooth Před 5 lety

      Video could be cut down to about 30 seconds. You don’t have to do all this. The new ring will actually fit over the stock headlight housing. Just remove the original own ring then drop this new one on. It’s so easy.

      glennsmooth hey man do you know which headlight grill this is? Or which one you’ve used?
