    Parts used:
    Coil + Ignition Relocation / Tank Lift / Plug wires (FULL KIT)
    ► bit.ly/BHM-DK-CoilRelo
    EZ Fuse Silicone Tape (2 rolls needed!)
    ► amzn.to/2muuQVm
    Blue Loctite 243 Threadlocker (removable)
    ► amzn.to/2lXzGag
    ________
    In this "How To," I walk through installing a Coil & Ignition relocation kit, as well as doing a wire tuck. To note, I previously installed a 1.5" Tank Lift which left some room to run the wiring under the tank / above the spine. You can find that video here:

    • HOW TO: Install Tank L...
    For this "How To," I used a combination of two sets of instructions, one from DK Customs that comes with the kit, and the other was a walkthrough posted on HDForums.com, found here:

    As always, use caution when doing mods to your bike! Use threadlocker / blue loctite on bolts / screws. If you're not comfortable doing a mod, get some help from a friend who is, or see a mechanic. And if you have any questions, please post up and I'll answer to the best of my knowledge.
    Thanks for watching, and I hope it helps some of you out there that are possibly considering relocating your ignition + coil.
    Ride safe out there!

    Thank you blockhead!! I just finished up the job with a 2 inch lift, and added wire protector for all the exposed wires so the taped look doesn’t look bad and uneven. I did a 3/4 wire protector on the harness coming from the oil tank side, along with fuse tape, and once they needed to separate I cut the 3/4 protector there. I also used a 1/4 inch wire cover for the coil wire and a 3/8 cover for the ignition. It looks very professional. Also have Harley tires coming in today. I own the 2013 iron 883 and I LOVE IT!!

    In 1994 I bought a new 883 standard Sporty. The ignition was mounted on the left side of the engine near the plastic horn. Since I'm right-handed, I was quite dissatisfied with the ignition's location. It was a pain in the ass. about one year into the ownership, I ordered a custom 3.25-gallon gas tank. This tank became standard on the 1995 models, of course. So $500.00 and a couple of months later, the new black tank arrived.
    The great news was that it arrived with an ignition relocation kit. I mounted the tank and ignition per instruction. The gas tank basically went into the same location as the peanut tank, but the ignition mounted at the lower front of the tank, just behind the frame's head unit. What a treat this aspect of the installation was. Right-handed with the key going into the right side of the bike. And, conveniently forward! A win, win.

    Great Video. You do a very nice job of explaining and showing how this is done. I need to add though in case someone gets confused, the lines you keep referring to as brake lines that you ran up behind the ear of the fuel tank are not brake lines. They are in fact your throttle cables. Your front brake line runs down by your fork and goes underneath your frames neck to your front tires brake caliper.

    • @BlockheadMoto
      @BlockheadMoto  Před 7 lety +1

      Gah, totally meant throttle cables! They're so similar to the brake lines on a bicycle that I defaulted and called them brake lines, lol. Thanks for the clarification!

  • @iceman8691
    @iceman8691 Před 3 lety +1

    Hi, at least twice you referred to “the brake lines”, my friend, unless your bike has some form of unique engine braking system, the lines you had in your hand at the time are actually your throttle cables! 😱😱
    Apart from that, quite an informative video. 👍

    Hey bro, first off thanks for the amazing video. I just got my first Sportster, and like many, I'm eager to see what I can start modifying on it. I had a question regarding the wire tuck. I know you mentioned that it would be impossible to tuck the wires under the tank if you had NO raised tank. My question though is, can you still tuck them under the the tank if I decide to do it a 1.5" raised? I know you did 2", but just wondering if it would work out the other way? Thanks again for the great vid man.

    Hello Blockhead. I have a 18 XL1200C. Planning on changing the factory coil and wires to Accel. I have the parts now. Would I need to fully remove the Tank to access the Coil? Should I place a rag between the tank and frame? To help keep the tank from dropping . The Manual is stating I need to unplug the Ignition Switch. I'm hoping I can work on it next weekend. After I run most of the gas out of the tank.

    I just bought a 883 a few months ago. i'm so excited but living in Michigan i was only able to get 50 miles on it before i had to put it up. I plan on doing a lot of cosmetic mods to it, this being one of them I was thinking about going 2' up with the tank. it doesn't seem like that much more but it interests me. I can always take it off or change it if i don't like it.
    I noticed (at least from the vids I've watched) you had no comment on how you like the tank lift, if it changed the way it feels, where you legs grip the tank, the way it handles. Not having done this yet i'd appreciative a bit of feedback on it to see if its something i'm actually going to do or not. Thanks again! love your motovlogs

    • @BlockheadMoto
      @BlockheadMoto  Před 7 lety

      Thanks for the kind words and support sir, appreciated! The tank lift I did was minimal, 1.5" so didn't really change the way it feels at all. Legs don't really grip the tank, doesn't have anything to do w/ handling either, mostly aesthetic, function in the sense that it gave me room to do the wire tuck in the tank channel.
      Hope you're able to take the bike out again soon, ride safe out there!

    Can you still do a wire tuck with only raising the tank 1”? I have a 2020 iron 883

    Hey man I have a huge favor. I have a 2015 iron 883 that was stolen. Luckily I got it back but the S.O.B. cut out my ignition and the connector to it. I’ve been searching high and low for a connector cable and ignition that would fit my bike but can’t find a damn thing. Looked all through the service manual and hasn’t helped me at all. Could you possibly make a video on how to replace an ignition? Would mean the world to me. Regardless, I love your videos! Cheers!

    Do you need a dinamometric wrench for the coil support on the head?

    I've watched several related videos and want to do this myself but can't figure out where everyone is putting there horn once they do the coil relocation. Where did you put yours?

    • @BlockheadMoto
      @BlockheadMoto  Před 7 lety

      The horn stays in the same location, it is not attached to the coil or ignition. There are horn relocation kits out there if you want one for the bike though, a quick Google search should give you some options.

    Had a guy at Harley tell me to avoid the key ignition if I was doing the relocation due to the key getting worn and potentially shearing off inside the ignition for the vibration. He recommended the push button LED ignition. Have you seen any wear on your key? Any plans on the push button ignition?

      Haven't seen any wear on my key. No plans on the push button ignition.
