  • How to Install an Ignition Coil and Switch Relocation kit on your Harley Davidson Sportster. This mounting kit for the relocation is from DK Custom, but there are other aftermarket relocation kits available. I really love the way this makes the bike look, and it helps keep the engine a bit cooler by freeing up room for air to flow above the engine.

    Let me know what you guys think of this relocation setup. Any other mods you'd like to see?

    Red is good. Gives contrast.

    I'm pretty sure i only paid like $6 for that ez fuse tape when i did my wire tuck.
    But anyways good video. Will reference back when i go to move my ignition. Thanks for the video.
    I also bought that saddlemen explorer seat! My backpack loves it on my sporty

    I have a 95 sportster I want to do this to, but it doesn’t have a pigtail connector it’s dual fire, I can’t figure out how to make it work

      CZcams is your friend there. I'm sure someone has done it. Sorry I'm not more knowledgable on the subject, would love to help you out but I'm not familiar with the earlier models or what you would need.

    I did the same relocation but because of the severe engine vibration, the ignition switch became loose so often when the engine was running the engine suddenly stopped because of the engine vibration which made the switch vibrate too. Do you know how to retighten the ignition switch?

      My best advice there would be to consult the service manual. If I remember correctly from when I did this, I believe there’s a nut on the backside that can be tightened? Service manual would show if there is, and what the torque spec should be to tighten it down. Worst case scenario you could always use a dab of JB weld or clear epoxy on the backside, but I would consult the service manual first!

    Is there any reason this kit wouldn’t work on a fuel injected sportster 883? Also having a hammer 1275 kit.

    • @MOTOBLADE
      @MOTOBLADE  Před rokem

      Works great on mine with the 1275 hammer kit. Never a single problem during the install or otherwise.

    The wires are l'observation kn spark plugs or tight? I bought the same wires and had to remove the spark plus terminal to install the wires but i fond them not thight enought...

    Why does one choose to do an ignition coil relocation?

    • @MOTOBLADE
      @MOTOBLADE  Před měsícem +1

      Just for Looks, places it in a better position if you're doing a full wire tuck and a tank lift like I did. No perceivable benefit other than it matches a look I was going for.

      @@MOTOBLADE ya I'm unsure as to what exactly I want to do, all I know for sure is key relocation, start button relocation, maybe get rid of kill switch, etc

    • @MOTOBLADE
      @MOTOBLADE  Před měsícem +1

      @@cruisealong378 I did my own bars myself, lots of wiring, just mark it and take your time (if you’re going with new controls that eliminate the kill-switch). Harleys bars were not pre drilled nicely for cable routing. Actually quite terrible. I got biltwell bars and they had nice big holes already set for instant easy internal routing of the wires, because I wanted to get all the wiring inside instead of just strapped to the bars. Hope that helps if you decide to go that route. Have fun! I found a lot of CZcams videos with different bike setups til I had an idea of what I wanted to do.

      @@MOTOBLADE ya I'm thinking of relocating start button and key ignition to under the tank somewhere closer to the frame, I'm unsure whether I want to remove Killswitch completely yet. For the fun of it I was thinking of making it keyless if that was possible 🤣

    Do you think spray painting the rubbers black will effect their function?

    • @marcuss_aureliuss
      @marcuss_aureliuss Před 6 měsíci

      It doesn't. I did it. however, the paint flaked off after a few months so I used black plastidip which worked so well. (looks a lot better too because plastidip is matte)

    • @MOTOBLADE

      @@MOTOBLADE I called service at the local Harley dealer and they told me 11-13ft lbs. 🤷🏻‍♂️. Seems to be more accurate. I installed new highway bars and those torque specs mounting to the frame were 25-35 ft lbs
