On a practical level this was so fantastic to be able to really study these shadows and see how they reflect light and play up or play down texture. I’m always wary of shimmer because it can make my eyes look older, so I loved this! 🥰 The best shimmers I’ve found for avoiding this issue: Thrive eye brighteners, Phytosurgence, and Yeux Paint.

Completely agree with your review of Violette's shadows. She is known for doing an effortless look at bars and restaurants so how the heck are we supposed to use her eyeshadow when it's so messy and requires a makeup wipe? If you look at her IG stories, she fast forwards through what I presume is a lot of fixing and fussing when she's using her eyeshadows. I also feel her look ends up being "ok" because her bangs cover up some of her eyelids. It's ok if a product works in a specific way. What I don't like is that it seems to be marketed as an easy breezy thing and it's not.

I really enjoyed this! Especially because I was able to look at all the colors at all times. You can't really do that when someone swatches on their wrists.

I actually found this super useful as got to see the eyeshadows as you moved and made expressions. Also quite sensible as you can just cleanse your face thoroughly rather than severely irritate your eyes also the shimmer and glitter might scratch the delicate eye area I do this sometimes as I have sensitive eyes and prone to blepharitis.
Loved how you rant "that just feels so bizarre to me, that would never be part of my routine!" while putting eyeshadow on your forehead 🤣 Great reviews!
I have the Cover Girl one and it’s beautiful! It doesn’t crease on me with a light layer and I have very hooded eyes. I got it free from Ulta and they have a bunch of colors all less than $10! I’m a luxury makeup lover, so I was really impressed and will definitely buy more shades. 😊

I just bought the Hourglass shadow in Ray, I was hesitant because they're expensive af but I'm turning 27 this year and I think I'm beginning to age out of the super glittery Colourpop supershock shadows. 😕 This review came just in time, so thank you!
I have it in Rapture and Smoke and love them. They have been my go to for Zoom make-up over the past year.
Btw, I am 52, and don't love aging myself with too much sparkle. Have recently discovered that an extremely light, specific touch with glitters and metallics does some amazing brightening. A butterfly whisper of glitter eyeliner above my pupil creates a twinkly eye effect.

If you like the Auric duos you MUST pickup the third one, brown with the gold glitter. I have a similar skin tone/undertones to you and it is my absolute FAVORITE! The brown is perfect and can sheet out for a shimmery wash, or be built up, and I use it as a liner for a similar effect to VBB bronze. The glitter doesn’t mean too gold and I love to tap it all over my bare eye and it’s scattered enough but also punchy enough that you look like an ethereal disco ball. Can’t say enough good things. Thank you for this committed review!!!

Chaotic goodness! I love one and done shadows for my deep set hooded eyes.
I use the CT Eyes to Mesmerize as my all over color and then top with either the Hourglass scattered light or the Bodyography Glitter pigments every single day. My absolute favorite, so simple but looks like I did something look!!!
The Chantecaille mermaid eye satin shadows are my only eyeshadows that made the cut in my minimalist collection. They are beautiful and can be worn sheered out or built up and they last nicely and don’t have any glitter/visible shimmer (which I really don’t like). I even decluttered their gel powder eyeshadows because I found the glitter to be too noticeable/shiny for the vibe I like.
I find facial swatches very helpful because it gives me a better idea of what they might look like on an eyelid.

The new Lidstars are actually quite lovely. It’s wild to me that it took this long to get standard neutrals in this formula. Makes me think that something was lost in translation between the initial product concept and execution.

Same thoughts on the colours/titles of the Rare Beauty liquid eyeshadows. "It could be 'nearly ANYTHING'" EXACTLY. They would have been more aptly named: Nearly Pink 01, Nearly Pink 02, and so on. Love the formula but come on now.

Smashbox always on are amazing. They have a few shimmers now but I have all the mattes. They are just that Always On. You can wear them to a root canal 🙋🏻♀️ and they will stay on. Nothing else will though.

With the Auric I think you are supposed to be able to do them alone or put the glitter on top of the cream, I do and I love that.

It’s funny, I have the oiliest lids but the CT eyes to mesmerize don’t crease on me. The color Bette, now Amber Gold, is another amazing one and done.

I have hooded eyes and I don’t have a primer. I do put on a light shade or bronzer on my crease before though, so maybe that helps.

Lol!! Kackie, i agree with you 100%. I love Violette and her style but When i heard her say she made them to resemble liquid lipstick my eyes literally cringed 😬 sounds painful, looks extremely hard to use. Products that are hard to use like that just collect dust in a lot of peoples collections

Question for you, I wore the vbb kajal pencil and lid luster on top of my skin prep which was supergoop vitamin c daily dose and I found it kind of creased and spread out. I know you've worn both products separately but what about together? Do you typically prime with something for vbb honey lid luster?

Are any of these products packaged in glass? I am searching for a great one and done shadow packaged in recyclable or refillable packaging. The Thrive Brilliant Eye Brighteners seem great, but so much plastic 😢. I was also super interested in Hourglass-Ray until I realized it was all plastic too… sooooo pretty!
Auric has a glass base. Dose of colors also has a glass base.

I totally agree about the weird red color (6:13 top right). It's like a weird, unflattering coppery orangey red. Like it has no true undertone and isn't vibrant or pretty at all to me. Such a bizarre color for a liquid eyeshadow. You think she'd either go fully copper or fully red. Such an ugly color LOL
I argue that the glossier one you put on your nose actually does flatter your coloring, now you might not want to wear such a a color, but you can pull it off.
