    What’s the Zodiac movie about?
    Based on the true story of the notorious serial killer and the intense manhunt he inspired, Zodiac is a superbly crafted thriller from top director David Fincher. Featuring an outstanding ensemble cast led by Jake Gyllenhaal, Robert Downey Jr., Mark Ruffalo and Chloë Sevigny, Zodiac is a searing and singularly haunting examination of twin obsessions: one man's desire to kill and another's quest for the truth. On July the 4th, 1969, the evening of the independence day, two young adults are killed by gun shots in the cities of Benicia and Vallejo in California. A man then calls local authorities and declares having done the crime. The presumed killer, nicknamed Zodiac, accompanies his claims with a riddle. Robert Graysmith (Gyllenhaal), a young newspaper cartoonist, sees his life change when he starts investing his time in decrypting the serial killer’s puzzle.

    1:41 i love how graysmith says that. all his time spent on trying to solve the case rests on his belief that these murders mattered and do matter. while everyone is moving on in their lives, graysmith just cannot let it go. their deaths have to mean something.

    Even though he's being an asshole, the thing is that Paul was right.
    For all his curiosity and assistance, Graysmith always remained on the outside of the zodiac investigation.
    This was when Robert realised that to make any progress with the case, and perhaps even solve it, he had to be aggressive, he had to obsess.
    Yet at the same time, he was looking at the result of that obsession.

    Great job on the censorship, it really helps ruin the scene

    I think how funny this scene is. Junkies and alcoholics live on their pedestals of arrogance, even though they have a real sense of their situation, as Avery does. Paul remembers several facts about the case from 4 years ago, but doesn't give a damn about Graysmith's idea of a book. I love how Avery reacts when Graysmith leaves his boat (Avery thinks he is living a dream in that boat).

      Year old comment but: that's very much the posture of a drunk person who believes they're in the right and also is a little ashamed of their behavior but is too drunk to care. The subtle darting eyes and fixing himself afterwards gives away as much. He's deep in his drinks and honestly doesn't give a damn about anything.

      @@Aniallator I always remember earlier in this scene when Paul answers the door to Robert, he seems surprised and a little amused to see Robert again, but not irritated. And when he goes "Permission to come aboard..." then he sounds irritated. Like, he doesn't mind seeing Robert again but hates that Robert has to see him in this state.
      And he also only gets hostile with Robert when he brings up the past.

      "Junkies and alcoholics"? What you missed is that avery is an alcoholic but greysmith is a junkie too. He is addicted to the zodiac way more than avery is addicted to booze.

    • @ctdieselnut
      @ctdieselnut Před 8 měsíci +1

      @@freebee8221 great point. His obsession is screwing up his work/personal life, sound like an addiction problem to me. I had an epiphany a long time ago that has stuck with me; many people have a vice/addiction/obsession that isn't drugs or alcohol, maybe just waste a little too much time/money on a 'harmless' hobbie. It's just that things outside of drugs/alcohol aren't commonly considered an addiction, or aren't socially unacceptable. Doesn't mean they can't be harmful, all consuming, or even just a waste of lifetime. At the end of the day, they may not be as 'bad' as being a drug addict, but can still have a profound impact on you, your life, your family, work, health, finances, etc.
      Wasting money on something can be disastrous on it's own. More divorces happen over money troubles than infidelity, that's a fact.
      Just something to be cognizant of. Everything in moderation, i think that saying is corny, but it fits well here.
