Air Suspension Requires Immediate Attention … :o(

  • Yep, 3 hours from home, heavy gooseneck trailer to haul. RAM of State College won’t even plug into the truck because they’re 3 weeks out! Like really!!!
    Oh well, toss a little common sense at the problem and we’ll get it done and get her home.
    Cut the factory air lines, added some "push to connect" air fittings and plumbed it all into a Habor Freight tire inflator. Yes, oh yes we did.
    Had to cycle the pump every 12 to 15 minutes on the ride home, but the suspension never bottomed out and it still carried the heavy load.
    Now to fix the problem once I'm home and get back to making firewood.

      @@benben6054 I purchased a conversion kit from a company called Strutmasters for about $1000 (this was around 2019) and had a local car shop install them for $800. If you have the funds, I'd recommend looking at a higher quality brand as I'm experiencing a little sagging on the front end after a couple of years.

    Any chance you would tell me what size the air fittings were? I think they look smaller than 1/4" are they metric?

    Consider a Monroe retrofit, I am surely contemplating it. I keep tinkering with it and it freezes in the winter (I installed a heater underneath for this).

      I live in South Lake Tahoe and it gets really cold here would this cause me to be having problems as well? And can you explain more because to me it just seems like the truck is really low and it won’t raise at all and I’m not sure what happened I haven’t been in it in a week so maybe it’s just gotten really cold??? But I let it idle for about 15 minutes to warm up and then turned it off and on again and it still gave me the same notification

      AIR ride with height adjusting balloons...
      Hi, this is the second time that this has happened here in Québec in temperatures under 17c or 0F. My Mechanic has traced the problem to the compressor which inflates the 4 balloons air suspension. It's the condensation that seizes the compressor, so he suggested a battery warmer sound the compressor, that did the trick, however, I have to plug the truck in some nights when the temperature drops below freezing. Hope this helps

      I have a Jeep Grand Cherokee Overland where the air suspension went out totally. With all 4 out, every little crack in the road or pebble, I was a human bobble head. Stuff stored in the cargo area would take flight and crash down if you hit a bigger bump. Is it safe to drive, maybe if you’re not weighted down, and can withstand the whiplash. His Ram may feel differently, though. I had to drive mine around town before I could get the tank filled again. Chrysler dealership said they checked it for leaks, but I’m a month and a half out, and I’m getting the warning message. Funny thing is, it resets itself, and isn’t stored in my memory. Good thing I took video of it not working properly and the warning message. Whoever thought air suspension was a good idea was a moron. Either that or everything is just trash today. I’m looking at switching it out to a traditional suspension. I’m not putting up with this crap anymore, and I’ve only had it since the beginning of May.

    I'm having a similar issue with my '15 Ram 2500. Did you find the problem with the factory system?

    • @ShaverSalesINC
      @ShaverSalesINC  Před 2 lety

      the 3500 and 2500 are completely different systems. Our 3500 is more of an over load system, we still have a leaf spring. I believe the 2500 is a 4pt system , all bag. We replaced the compressor and no new issues.

    • @jesseboyer
      @jesseboyer Před 2 lety +1

      My 2500 is only a rear suspension air system. The front has standard coils.
      The 1500 trucks had air ride on all four corners though

      there is a video on here by another user who connected both front hoses together with a T fitting, and then a capped off hose to that. Ran that hose up through the engine area. Did the same with the back, but didn’t catch where he ran the fill hose. Said he was going to fill the bags that way, bypassing the tank and compressor. Don’t know how well it worked. Got interrupted and can’t find it now. Seemed like it could be a permanent fix, but I don’t know.
