The one time you DO want to get a phone number from tower 😆
🤔😅😎
Right?! pretty funny hearing that
It's funny how nervous bush pilots are talking to ATC. But not half as nervous as I would be landing on the side of a mountain.
Same here, learned to fly in controlled airspace. Uncontrolled always put me on edge.
Fun!! Helicopters probably encounter this a bit more! I’ll usually just radio in without calling ahead and just tell them we’re landing off airport and where. I just give distance from airport and direction/radial (e.g. 4 nm along the 120 radial)
Stuff like this isn’t all that strange of a request. I’ve worked stuff like this countless times.
I think it’s imperative for GA pilots to routinely fly in controlled airspace and talk with ATC. I’d much rather work with a pilot that isn’t afraid of calling us. It’s really not a big deal.
Id much rather talk to ATC and get corrected or get feedback than get a special little phone number to call.

I'm a low hour pilot and I'm hangared at a towered airport. Yeah, it took me a couple times flying before I was really comfortable talking to ATC, but now whenever I leave it I feel blind. Just a week ago I landed at a non-towered airport and had to abort the landing as someone was taking off directly at me while I turned base to final. He never said anything on comms despite my 5 or so radio calls as I approached and entered the pattern. Those types of things make me feel WAY more nervous outside of tower control than I do within, where someone is there watching out for you. If you get the opportunity, stop in to the tower and talk to them. I do that at my tower all the time, and it really helps you feel comfortable kmowing they are humans there to help you.
Trent, I so thoroughly enjoyed this video. You put a big smile on my face that stayed until you returned home. Thanks.
Trent, it's official, you're an GA pusher.😁 People tell you this is your world, and then you just give them a signature Trent Palmer smile and go: "No dude, this is our world. Step right in." When shared, burdon halves and joy doubles. That's the math of it. Magnificent, ain't it?
I regularly fly into a private strip inside controlled airspace. The tower is always very accommodating and easy to work with. We just report landing assured and call them on departure. We can’t always reach them on the ground departing, but we call as soon as practical if we can’t reach them, or will call them on the phone prior to departure. It’s pretty easy when you’re used to it!
That is so awesome! I’m local and designed the utility power for that house! The owner is super cool. What a great local adventure.
Trent, I always enjoy your videos and have taken inspiration and much enjoyment from them. I have heard you express, on many occasions, that you have been hesitant to talk to ATC. As a flight instructor, I encounter this in my students a lot. Fortunately, I have a very good relationship with the folks at our local tower facility and often take students and local pilots for a tour of those facilities. It helps a lot when pilots actually "meet" the people on the other side of the microphone. Most pilots do not realize that most controllers are NOT pilots. They are also NOT guys in black suits and dark glasses waiting to catch you at something you are not supposed to do... Usually, they are great people, many of them quite young, dressed in cutoff jeans and t-shirts working in very cool places. They are really there to help you. And, pilots also need to understand that the controllers would not have a job if "you" were not out there flying... I would highly recommend that you contact your local ATC facility and arrange a tour to see just what it is that they do for you. I believe that you would be a lot more willing to avail yourself of their services once you get to know them.
I can hear the nerves. Every call to the tower stared with "And um..."
Cool ride Trent, thanks so much for sharing. Like the man once said, "We've got nothing to fear but fear itself."
Blessings🇺🇲😎
I wonder if you could speak about your case against the FAA, and how much will the Supreme Court's recent overturning of the Chevron doctrine effect it. If you can't speak about it, I understand, but I was wondering if you've had any conversations with your legal team about it.
I flew under the Seattle bravo. I got on frequency with Seattle center for flight following. I got nervous that I might get low on fuel while navigating the insanity of Seattle. I had 2 fuel cans on board so I told Seattle center I was landing at a reservoir on MT Rainier to fuel up. That got a little interesting to explain. If anyone is scared of ATC. Fly under a bravo and you will never be afraid of the little towered airports again.
Thank you for sharing! 1
Trent love your videos and what you do for us! I am in Southern Oregon now but moving my Remos LSA back to FL this fall. I have a Kitfox 2 and Rans S-12xl in FL. I just got offered Starlink mini and I own a Bambu X1C ;-) You are one of the guys that made me go back and get my Sport at 52!
Thanks Trent for a moment of calm in a storm.
Sooo awesome, I have driveway envy now, thanks ALOT...
Just my two cents as a Flight Instructor that operates within the Washington DC special flight rules area, Tower controllers don’t really care what you do as long as you stay out of the way of IFR traffic (private jets coming in on instrument approaches mostly). I think your call to approach was very clean and exactly the way that I would do it.
Awesome vid. Loved this one. And so good to see just how accommodating Reno tower were. Great stuff
That was absolutely outrageous. Thanks for sharing the experience.
Another cool video, thanks Trent!
The moment I saw the Amsterdam Schiphol tower with Trents plane, I immediately thought he flew to Amsterdam with the FreedomFox 😂
Love your videos Trent! I live in Fallon so i know full well what its like to fly into Reno. Keep up the good work!
KRNO tower and NorCal folks are always cool and helpful. Remember, you can always skip the NorCal step and call the tower directly next time. Cool video.
Another great video Trent. Please keep them coming 😁.
@5:38 Sweet shot of NW Reno & McQueen High School! Go Lancers! 😎💯🏁😂
Unreal video Trent. So sick.
Looking forward to watching you fly over Red Bluff some time soon,.
Always good stuff
Enjoyed the video.
SICK video bro
Good stuff.
Amazing again!
Pretty cool! I haven't commented before, but this one got me going. I grew up in Sparks and learned to fly at the Stead airport back in the '70s. Seeing you coming in landing on 8 and leaving back out on 26 brought back some memories.
And, it's really good to see how well you were treated by ATC.
Man getting an instrument rating will make anyone an ace on the radio. I know it’s not that helpful for a lot of bush pilots but you don’t actually have to finish the rating. Even just getting with an instructor and doing some approaches from time to time, if the plane is equipped, is plenty. For me, radio work is fun.
Did similar in Europe but in a flight of 1940's Tcraft without XPDR but with radio...never an issue, they let us do our own thing as long as we stayed underneath the 3 degree approach/departure path of the airliners. Coast running the Spanish Med past Malaga, Alicante and Barcelona. Also the same past Lisboa in Portugal and Nice on the French Riviera.😀 Edit: not landing but transit.
Cool fun video!
It’s funny , but understandable, how pilots that fly in uncontrolled space all the time are nervous to talk to ATC or tower. I learned at a non towered field but flew into and around controlled a lot. It took a while before that nervousness went away.
I think my first visit to a Bay approach, ( highly recommended) is what did it for me. That’s gonna be a LONG flight for you to
Roswell ! Fun video here, thanks.
Imagine kicking back in your office, munching on a tasty breakfast burrito, and watching Trent Palmer's latest video. It's the perfect way to start your day, right? But hold on, it gets even better when Trent's flying his own plane in real life, just like we do in the simulator.
Every driveway is a bush strip for us, loved this bro!
🤙
It is funny how intimidating talking to ATC is when you haven't done it in a while!
Great video! Super cool to see your interactions with the tower for such a "non-standard" request. 😀👍
I’m still a student and I’m learning at an uncontrolled airport and arc is scary 😂
@9:54 you can see the tire circumference increase instantly as it touches down
I fly lidar in controlled airspace often. It usually goes smooth like this, but sometimes after a couple hours of being in there they stop being so nice.
Good morning from Minnesota!! Fun episode!
Trent, talk to us about SCOTUS overturning of Chevron Deference and the current status of FAA vs Trent Palmer.
What kind of drugs do I need to take so I can use a shadow to determine tailwind? Asking for a friend.
Seriously though, another great video Trent. Keep it up!
Yes fun times landing at another location within controlled airspace. The most experience I have is going into and out of Hoskins (44T) within Olympia's (KOLM) airspace.
Fantastic!
too cool !!!
🙂
Nice flight and interaction with ATC...
very cool ty Trent :) y atc different language stuff
Awesome......
I remember how terrifying was talking to ATC when I started my training
On the other hand… Now I get nervous when I don’t hear ATC giving instructions 😂
Thanks Trent, slightly different but immensely enjoyable.
Sweet ride.....like and subscribe!
Bellhaven. Cool.
That landing was a bit blind into the sun...maybe a good time to think about adding some sun visors? Great video as always 👍
Hey Trent - how does the latest Supreme Court’s chevron ruling help your FAA court case? Seems like it would be very favorable to you!
Look into the sun visor on a Kioti dk6020 tractor, it is a quarter size flip down unit and looks like it will work in your plane and you have the machine to make a clamp, no more sun blindness
Axia Alloys sun visors that will clamp on to your cross bar in front of you
Trent, I suggest you don't use fingers for air-to-air communications. Use 122.75 instead.
Agreed. Fingers is not licensed for air-to-air communication between private aircraft - they are designated for use by flight test stations. Though probably ok in the Bush.
I think the ATC nerves stems from being a drone pilot.
Buy a bunch of donuts and go drop them off at atc. You get to put faces to the voices and it will lower your stress levels when having to talk to them.
No way you could do that here in Europe. So many regulations
Trent can you do a video on tys prop?
When you have a flight of two, do you both enter the transponder code or just one? And if just one, does the other turn theirs off or leave it VFR?
Trent just out of curiosity why do you make an immediate turn after takeoff out of Reno stead ultimate being unpredictable for others who may be in the pattern. In flight training I was always taught to follow the pattern and exit on the crosswind or downwind to remain predictable.
So I was just curious what your reasoning was to try and learn what I can!! Loved the video!
Always choose # 3, Emergency, for requests like this. That line is always answered.
A Controller at SFO told me that.
Does anybody know what kind of Ray Ban has Trend? What is the model?
What's ur total time now?
last time he did this he got in trouble
Why do you release smoke just after takeoff?
Because he can. If you can then why not do it.
@@johnswofford908 😂
Way to just blast the towers phone number my guy, edit that out.
Yeah, I don’t know why I didn’t catch that. I’ll give my editor the blame for that one, I just made the edit on CZcams, it will be out once CZcams processes the video
@@TrentonPalmer I wouldn't worry about it too much. It's a publicly available phone number.
Don't land Trent! You know the FAA doesn't like when you land. Just stay up there to avoid penalties.
Hey Trent, Charlie and i want to know if you wanna fly some freestyle quads with us. Lemme know!
"Towered airspace"?
Well, it seems that since you are entering controlled airspace, you do need authorization. It shouldn't be a big deal?
FIRST!
I'm going to go out on a limb and say that your experience at JFK would be significantly less enjoyable........................
