RAM 2500 REBEL HD CUMMINS (6.7L) | Should I SELL My POWER WAGON ??

- I review the 2023 RAM 2500 Rebel HD with the 6.7L CUMMINS Diesel engine. I talk about weather or not I'm going to sell my ram 2500 power wagon in order to upgrade to the Cummins. I review and compare the off road specs of both the HD rebel and the power wagon and also compare the 2500 Rebel HD to the basic Ram 2500 off road package.
I hope everyone is having a fantastic weekend! I am very excited to talk about the new 2023 RAM 2500 HD rebel which is going to have the Cummins available to it. I think this is the perfect truck for the HD segment that ram needed. for a long time people have been complaining about not being able to get the power wagon with a Cummins and I think that has determined many folks from buying it. so the Rebel is going to bridge the gap nicely with allowing people to choose the Cummins engine.
I think the power wagon was such an outlier in the RAM HD truck segment that it allows for perfect space for this new HD rebel.
first off the Rebel looks amazing. ram always does a great job with styling. they have also introduce a sport hood and new mirror with the release of this new REBEL HD and to be honest I think both the power wagon and the rebel look identical. but here are the mechanical off-road features this truck will come with.
- LSD/electric locking rear diff
- skid plates
- all-terrain wrangler duratrac tires
- Bilstein off road shocks
- hill decent
- 12,000lbs Warn winch (on gas model only)
but the beauty of this rebel HD truck is not only off road ability but it maintains a huge max towing capacity of just under 17,000lbs and a max payload of 3,100lbs which is very nice. this is the real factor that separates it from the power wagon.
this truck also come with a large price tag. starting off at 69,000 dollars before even being outfitted with a cummins engine. bringing the truck closer to 80,000 dollars as a base unit which is not cheap.
the power wagon does still have a major upper hand on this truck went it comes to off road ability having a fully unique off road suspension set up with a factory 2 inch lift and special articulink front suspension as well as a front locking differential just to name a few off road goodies the rebel does not come with.
I also think it was important to look at the off-road package ram offers to any RAM 2500 in the lineup with a very reasonable price of 840 dollars for the full package. you get:
- Hill decent t
- Bilstein off road shocks
- tow hooks
- all-terrain tires
- LSD rear differential
- skid plates
- wheel well flairs.
so the RAM 2500 REBEL HD does seem to be closer to the off road package then the actual power wagon. either way I can't wait to get my hands on this truck in person and do a full review and comparison!

On another video of this truck from Texas the Cummins (with a few other options) only had 1484lbs of payload!
Edit: 1483lbs, czcams.com/video/UtZDxyf3Lbg/video.htmlm54s
NOOOOOOOO. If that's true that horrible. My power wagon has more payload.
At first I thought maybe that was a power wagon sticker for the demo truck or something but nope. I saw 20 inch rims on the front and rear. that is 100% real. what a disappointment I honesty can't believe that. you could NEVER tow a 17,000 lbs trailer because the tougue wait would exceed the payload. Thank you Keith! great eyes sir.
@@TheGettyAdventures the 6.4 hemi has more
Towing capacity than the Cummins like 3,000
Pounds difference. It’s on there website. The hemi is 16,870lbs and the Cummins is 14,920lbs
@@TheGettyAdventures I know! I can’t figure out why someone would choose a Cummins Rebel HD over the other options Ram has. It’s just weird.
It all comes down to what you need in a truck. I agree that the diesel will be a popular option. Having owned both a Ram 2500 6.7 and a 2500 with Cummins, I have say I liked the them both. But with running a ranch, I’ve learned that all the towing capacity withe the diesel goes out the window when you have to haul hay or equipment across muddy fields and pastures. The Cummins sinks like an anchor in deep mud. It’s great off road on hard terrain, but I can tell you from experience, you ever know what you’ll run into while off-roading, and it’s a nightmare trying extricate a diesel truck stuck in deep mud. I think that the only solution is you need two trucks if you’re a rancher or farmer. The diesel for the big loads and the gas when you’re going into sketchy terrain.
Well said... everything has its place, and everything in its place. Small light weight diesels have been great offroad for decades. Only been a couple of years since the HD Tremor has been out... yet to see anyone really really offroad one. It's just physics. Unless you setup a HD diesel with 40" or < size tires and beefed up suspension (AEV Prospector XL)... Like you said, you are going to sink in the mud. Or overheat and break parts rock crawling.
Agreed! I think people may not understand just how heavy the Cummins is. nothing wrong with that, it's that heavy because it's built like a rock with good solid iron parts that will last and take a beating. but may also sink you in some mud lol.
Aren’t the 6.7 and the cummins the same engine
Love this video for the “sold my soul” for this truck comment you made. I did too for a 2024 Power Wagon. Everyone asks why didn’t you get a diesel. Crazy question, but you answered it over and over in different ways. I tow under 6,500 pounds. I don’t want the cost of diesel. The ride is great “doesn’t jar my face off”. Love my Power Wagon.
Alex, this was a great comparison video! I do like the new Rebel just don't even consider getting rid of your Power Wagon! I can tell you love your truck 🚚... keep what you have, it's awesome as it is! Bill from Linglestown, Pennsylvania
I'm keeping my truck don't worry! I love my Power Wagon and the rebel is really just to expensive to even think about selling.
Great Review! back in 2018 I sold a 2015 2500 Ram Bighorn with the Cummins to get a new 2018 Ram 2500 Tradesman with 6.4L Hemi and Off Road Package. Why???? Payload... I wanted a hard sided Truck camper that was 2100 LBs and would have been over on payload for the diesel if I had 2 pair of dirty socks and packed a PB&J sandwich. Never mind water, grub and family. The 2018 Ram 2500 Tradesman with the 6.4L Hemi has 3100lbs payload ( about 850 lbs more than the Diesel and about 13K towing more than adequate for me). So 3100 Lbs payload means I can safely load the camper and gear for a week away and be at about 2900 lbs. I added Timbren upgraded Bump stops to help stabilize the load and the truck only settles about 2 inches vs 5 with OEM rear bump stops. Really helps with sway as well. The payload capacity on the Power Wagon is abysmal and really about what many 1500's have... tradeoff for the off road ride but for the money Tradesman with and Off Road Package is great bang for the $$ and still maintain Payload capacity( just not the PW's off road ride quality. Power Wagons are very capable off road trucks and are great "Get me there trucks".... just not gonna get you there with a bunch of payload. Trucks are tools and you gotta know what you want to do and get the one for your needs. would like to see something like the PW and Rebel for the Ram 3500 too... That would bee something for sure! :)
Thank you! Great comparison video, nice to have the 2500 Off Road pkg. Included. One comparison point that would be nice to explore further on these different models is this: how the rated towing capacity is impacted by the rated payload capacity. For example, my 2020 Ram 2500 Cummins with the Off Road package had a towing capacity of 19,000 lbs and small change. However, due to the softer suspension and one inch factory lift, the rated payload was close to 1,700 lbs. (Laramie pkg with sun roof, fixed running boards and 20" wheels). My understanding is that the tounge weight of a trailer is maybe ten percent of the total trailer weight. So, do you max out your payload with a heavy tow, before you even add tool boxes, accessories, people, etc.? I am no expert on this topic, so forgive me if I am missing something here. I agree with your decision to keep your current truck. I really LOVED the Cummins 2500, but no longer do any towing so I could not really justify the additional expense of owning that truck (price of fuel, DEF fluid, fuel lube additives, annual expensive fuel filter changes, two batteries, etc.) If money was no object l would be driving the 2500 Cummins!!!
yes, the price of the vehicles is gone through the roof. Alex hit the nail on the head. I think it's gonna be out of reach for most Canadians but thanks for the video. Great video.
The rear locker with the diesel on the ram rebel is exciting news. I hope this electric rear locker will be available To purchase (AAM 11.50 / 30 spline) so I am and install on my 3500 long horn edition with the AEV Prospecter xl.
Glad to hear you’re not pulling the trigger on the Diesel. You’re PW is all you need and the some. Cheers
she's already more truck then I need, no doubt about that!
Another great video, Alex. I also watch the TFL channels and have been since the first Ike Gauntlet. It's another good source for off road and towing info.
I think Ram needs to option a 2500 that can house a diesel and a winch with a new bumper and 35s. AEV makes the Prospector and Prospector XL by adding their third party options, but you're looking at $15 - $20k over the Ram's cost. They add larger tires, suspension components, winch, bumpers, lights, snorkel, etc.
For a straight from the manufacturer, off road 2500, that can comfortably tow 10,000 lbs, you still can't do better than the PW. If you need to tow more and want to off road, get a Cummins 2500/3500, a trailer, and a Jeep Wrangler.
Agreed!!!
I Honestly thought this would be the truck where they had a winch with the cummins. I thought fore sure they would make a custom bumper that can house the winch. but nope.
Haha yes I agree! nothing wrong with a nice jeep.
One thing I cant believe never gets mentioned in these RAM review videos is the transmission tunnel that interferes with half of the front passenger footwell. I had to cross all HD rams off my list once I realized no one can sit up front with having to sit with their feet together and twisted towards the door.
Totally agree with you on the pricing, and it looks like Ram does too; the 2023 PW seems to start at US $69,345 base, per Google. Love the content!
wow they have bumped up the PW almost 5 grand eh. I guess it kind of makes sense you can't be trying to sell a less equipped truck for more
Yep, it’d be a bit weird. When we ordered our 22 PW over a month ago the dealer said they were seeing prices increase day to day, sometimes within the space of a day, on options, so guessing the hike was inevitable.
I feel you nailed it. Pricing of the Rebel never made sense to me either. Here in the US a loaded up Rebel and PW of the same year was darn near the same MSRP, payload, and towing!? MPG is the only advantage to the Rebel in my opinion. But who buys a truck for fuel efficiency!
The "Offroad" package you referenced is a great point. Maybe they will delete that package. Though, I would be curious to compare door tags and window stickers for a diesel, crewcab, 6'3" bed, Offroad package Ram 2500 vs a Rebel 2500 with the same cab, bed, and trim level options... basically the PW cab and bed configuration in an Offroad or Rebel.
Keeping it apples to apples to apples as close as possible. A side by side review of all of them (gas and diesel)... On road, towing, and very comprehensive (gravel roads, hill climbs, mud and ruts, rock crawling, sand and snow) offroad review. It would be intriguing to see what people really get for there money.
I also agree the Rebel my not see the same rear gearing, lift and articulation as the PW. Yet still the same AAM housing and locker as the PW. I would take it one step further. And bet they don't put the PW's Borg Warner transfer case in the Rebel.
I just find it amazing that we have enough technology and infrastructure in this day and age to have sooooo many diffrent capable vehicles and options. Maybe I am showing my age, but I still remember when vehicles were power nothing, and you didn't want the options anyways because it was another thing to break. LoL
Oh and glad to hear you are planning on keeping your PW. Otherwise I would have to disown you, and quit watching your videos. LoL
The thumbnail was to get a little reaction 😉 for a split second I thought just maybe I'd sell it. until I actually read about the rebels options and it was a very fast no thanks. some people have been saying the 2023 power wagon price will be going up pretty significantly basically to match the base model rebel but still for me the rebel is over priced.
it would make sense they would want 3.73 gears in the rebel but again for an "off-road" truck you would want 4.10's but I also think ram knows most folks who buy these trucks really aren't going to be doing serious off-roading so it would not shock me if these trucks came with 3.73's
I was also thinking ram may quietly take away the off-road package or up the price to 3 grand or something stupid because for 840 bucks you get pretty close to what the rebel has and you can outfit it on any ram you want.
It will be a cool truck to compare once they start to roll out to the dealers!
nice overview. i have a new 22 Rebel Echo-diesel with the optional 33 gal fuel tank. i love the truck. hate the diesel prices. with the off road tires and running around 65-70 mph, i only get about 21-23 mpg which is a little disappointing. Hate the Uconnect 5 radio. should have gotten an HD radio with nav. DEF fluid is interesting. Of course, it wasnt necessary when i had my 2000 2500 RAM Cummins with 6 speed manual.....that was a beast.. Appreciate your insight and speculations. Nice Power Wagon BTW, i think i'd keep it too.....lol
thank you sir! I've heard a lot people liking their ecodiesels. I have my opinions on that engine but as long as it's keeping you happy that's all that matters! and yes I'm gonna keep the power wagon!
Honestly just watching the coverage of the Truck Show down in Dallas, the only truck I'm remotely interested in is the Silverado HD High Country. And yes, I'm fully aware Mrs Macronical WILL ABSOLUTELY NOT allow me take out a HELOC on the house to buy one lol
And I fully agree with your assessment of the HD Rebel.
Thank you sir! but yes the Silverado did look awesome!
Got my Power Wagon a couple weeks ago. Love your content. Would love to be able to contact you for ideas for my channel.
For pricing, it's just like the 1500's. Rebel isn't only about offroad, it's a whole trim that fits between big horn and laramie/limited. That's what drives up the price. But yes, totally agree, if you want value the best option is a tradesman 6.4 with offroad package.
That's kind of what I was thinking after I made the video. the 1500 rebel is sort of this luxury off-road style of truck. and I guess they want the 2500 rebel in the same sort of category but the difference is in the 1500 line up there isn't a cheaper power wagon option. I'm sure it will be a cool truck but it's just a little pricey knowing the truck I have and the price I paid for it.
I went with the Rebel 6.4L Hemi over the Power Wagon. I need more payload and towing power with good offroad capability. Surprisingly the 6.7 Cummins has about half the payload and 3k less tow capacity so it's only worth it if you really need the extra torque.
I have to add my opinion. I had a 2011 RAM 2500 that I lifted and put bigger tires on. The diesel engine gave it the torque and HP to push the truck. The down fall that I found with the diesel engine is the weight. With out using the 4 wheel drive it would sink the front end. I also had a 2019 Ram Rebel which I thought was a very good package. I have always wanted a Ram Power Wagon and the gas engine is a definite winner. The price of these new trucks are very high. Your Power Wagon is definitely the way to go if you do any off roading 👍🏻
Only thing that cummins is good for is heavy loads going down the road. Off road, forget it!! Too heavy and way too much epaulets emissions crap.
I bought my 2022 Ram Rebel 1500 ecodiesel to soon. I wish I waited and got this 2500 6.7 Cummins 😕
I just want those new mirrors on my 21 3500 HO. Pretty much my only complaint on the truck is the mirrors. I can do without a 10 gear tranny. 6 gears have worked awhile and in comparisons still come out with great economy.
the mirror do look really nice! I have a bad feeling that they won't bolt up to existing trucks. but I could be wrong!
Definitely make the switch, I am definitely considering trading my 1500 for it for sure
see if I still had my 1500 I would consider it forsure. But having owned the PW was almost a year I don't think I'll give it up
The 6.4 Hemi Rebel is great if you need a decent off-road truck but still need higher payload and towing numbers than what a Power Wagon offers yet don't want to add the Cummins to the price out the door.
I have a 2022 2500 Tradesman hemi 4x4 with the offroad package and 4.10 rear end. I was looking for towing capacity with better offroad abillity. Didn’t want to deal with the headaches and expense of the diesel def system. The only thing I really wish I could have got that I didn’t was a rear locker. The Firestones are kind of lame, I’ll swap those out for some 33 inch toyo at3’s soon. I paid 50k for mine, considering the price increase for the rebel, I’m good with what I have.
I couldn't agree more. It seems like a nice truck but the price is just out of control for what it is.
I have 2018 Ram Tradesman with 6.4L and off road package I love this truck and actually put in the 7" EVIC display and the Unconnect 8.4 system w/ Android Auto and Apply Carplay for navigating when I go on trips with my truck bed camper on the back . So I kinda made it a "Plus up" from Tradesman spec. BTW I agree on the Firestones ..... LAME! LOL
My Power Wagon order just came in! PW all the way, baby.
I like to hear it!
After seeing the new HD rebel and how it's priced and optioned I'm kinda expecting the power wagon to get some upgrades like shocks and a price bump to separate it a bit more from the rebel. Just a guess.
I got the power wagon because I got a good deal and was actually shopping it against the 1500. I didn't need a diesel. I towed an 8000 pound load with a 1500 rebel and a power wagon. Was fortunate to have friends with both trucks. The HD platform just felt more comfortable and I liked driving the power wagon. I also got a ridiculous trade in on a Gladiator rubicon that I got way under sticker before the world went insane.
lol great choice on dumping the Gladiator, I can't see those aging well. but ya I've heard rumbling the PW will get a significant pump in price coming next year
@@TheGettyAdventures Ya it was nice but didn't love driving it. I bought it in July of 2020 for 8k under sticker and sold it a year and 8 months later for 2k over sticker. That was nice. Got the PW for under sticker so it worked out well.
I've seen 1400 some odd lbs payload for Cummins Rebel. Suits me just fine, I'd be happy with a smooth riding 2500 and towing a half ton sized trailer. IMO half tons are rated too high anyways. Lots will cry over that payload I'm sure, but it is no big deal to me.
half tons are rated too high. No way a ram 1500 can properly two almost 13,000 lbs. maybe down a straight line with a tail wind. but you put that much weight in an enclosed trailer down the highway and add wind resistance that 1500 will STRUGGLE.
but wow 1400 lbs of payload for the rebel with Cummins would be very low.
Curious question? Why did you choose the ram 2500 over the ford 7.3?
Wow, great analysis. I think if you compare the PW level 2 or 3 and the rebel, you'll find the Rebel to be cheaper. It looks like the a rebel does have more standard conveniences over the standard PW.
Personally, I've struggled more with the PW payload than the towing. I will likely not tow more than that of the PW. But the payload is my largest concern. Say a 9,000 lbs trailer so 900 lbs tongue weight, which goes against the 1,500 lb payload. Assuming I have nothing in the bed of the truck, that only allows 600 lbs for adults before I've maxed out. 4 grown ass men would exceed the payload. The payload of the rebel would still give me extra.
I kept going back and forth on getting the PW, but for excited about this option, in gas, not diesel. As you've pointed out in other videos the extra costs of diesel doesn't make sense for me. I want a very capable off road truck with towing ability. I don't necessarily need a rock crawler.
With that said I've wanted a PW for years, so I'm not going to make this decision without a lot of thought. I also like the RamBox, but on the PW , it decreases the payload even more. Wow a lot indeed. Thank you for all your videos
could be very true! the base model rebel may have more technology and features standard but only time will tell. and you are not wrong about the payload. will a power wagon take more then 1500 lbs of payload - absolutely. but you never want to intentionally run overloaded down the road.
personally if you know you're going to be towing close to 10,000lbs and are going to be taking people with you then yes the PW is probably not the best option. and I agree with you the Rebel is probably the best option at that point. get an off road worthy truck but still able to tow a good sized trailer!
I'd say the most I would tow would be 8,000 lbs but likely closer to 7,000. It's just the payload that's holding me back. I will test drive both and see how they differ on the road.
The new HD Rebel looks pretty sick. How do you like your Bilstein Shocks? I am looking at putting them on my 1500 and also leveling it out. Great Video!
They are okay. Better then stock for sure but nothing I would go out and spend a lot of money on. if they are priced decently then ya go for them!
love the channel!!! do you plan on doing any "stealth camping" in the pwagon? also did u end up selling the cap??
I did sell the cap. Honestly, I've really wanted too but I'm slightly afraid that this channel is mostly truck content so I may throw a couple feeler videos up and see how they do!
@@TheGettyAdventures yea i can understand that.. i just trecked 280 miles to almost canada for a matching grey cap. I'm 2 weeks into owning my 2015 ram 1500 laramie and loving it more and more
They've announced Canadian MSRP for the base 2500 Rebel, its $75,450 + $2,095 destination, so not horrible all things considered
Not bad at all! I figured it would be much lower then the actual exchange rate. but if the Canadian dollar stay down (it was almost 40 cents lower then the us dollar this weekend) these prices will increase.
What mud flaps are you running on your 6.4
Picking mine today, 2022 PW Level 2 group with RAM Box that was on the lot in Ontario and dealer was very motivated to sell it to make September sales numbers. $73k CAD (with running boards and bed liner) so I think you are on to something for Canadian buyers in 2023/2024 with foreign exchange rates as this translate to only $53k USD at current exchange rates that it will go up. I do not want a diesel even if I tow a Ember 26ft offroad travel trailer, I only do 12,000km/year (25% of it on trails) so the business case to pay for a Cummins and associated maintenance makes no sense to me.
that's a screaming deal. I paid 73 for mine which is only a level 1. But yes with the exchange rates at where they are against the us dollar auto manufactures are going to have no other choice but start lifting pricing pretty dramatically
Your right about the 20" rims that's stupid! But again like you said 97% of owners are going to use the truck like it's a Honda civic.
most like yes lol. but that's okay at least it will look better then a Honda civic
It needs some Air Bags or something, 11k towing on a 2500 HD truck is embarrassing!! I would buy one in a heartbeat, currently drive a 2020 Raptor.
I'm curious to see if Ram comes out/brings back the 1200/Dakota. Now a 1200 Power Wagon would be awesome. I would so buy a 1200 Power Wagon!!
if ram brought a PW option the 1500 line up, I'd buy it. I miss the 5.7. but I do think a midsized truck would be bad ass with a PW package. small and nimble and light
@@TheGettyAdventures
I'm gonna try and reach out to the engineers of Stelantice and see if they like my idea
Boy how I miss my Dakota.
I think you are wise Alex to stay with the gas Ram for now, however, they are saying many changes in the US which will affect you also after mid November 2022.
what kind of changes?
Ram could have given the tremor a good fight for the money but in my opinion they fell short. This rebel 2500 like the power wagon are trucks that no one will miss if they are gone tomorrow. I own a 22 power wagon and I think it was one of my worst purchases.
Tfl Truck I believe did not say anything about the HD Rebel getting a front lift, but I could be wrong.
no they didn't say anything in fact I think they mentioned it didn't get a lift.
Using my 2500 with the 6.4 Hemi. To pull my gooseneck dump for side work. I have zero desire to own a diesel. Got like 16,900ish lbs towing and 2,900lbs payload. So I could care less about the diesel option.
I agree that trucks are getting too expensive. This new Rebel is just trying to confuse customers, they are selling them less but charging more, and trying to steal Tremor customers. The issue with both is the Ford F-150 Tremor has similar payload and towing to the PW and now can be optioned with a V8 and fitted with a winch. We should wheel some time.
about time ford put a v8 back into their pick up trucks lol but yes the tremor are pretty cool trucks and I think ram is simply looking for a truck to take some of that market away from the tremor. personally I don't think it will work but you never know!
If you do upgrade, get the Ramboxes. I can't stress enough how awesome they are for storage.
Until you want a rack or canopy. Then they're useless. They really limit box options.
@@rowboat1972 I agree on they limit choices on caps but there are actually quite a few options for racks for them now but most are high end and prices are crazy for some. For me having ram boxes and a hard top box cover works great. And you can pack a lot of gear in them.
I don't mind the idea but honestly I like having the extra space in the box. Any gear I have usually just goes under the seats.
Couldn't agree that they've seemingly priced the Ram Rebel into oblivion...I paid $51k for a gently used '21 Tradesman PW (that originally stickered for $54k) last October. As much as I probably don't need the front locker and would probably swap my truck for a gas Rebel with the front winch because of the payload...is it worth 15k? No way.
I almost bought a Tradesman power wagon - wicked trucks. but ended up finding mine at almost the same price. but yes I couldn't imagine a rebel being worth an extra 15k for simply more payload and towing.
There is nothing better out there the P.W. and i have owned most and still own a G.M.C. I got rid of the Chevy Z71with eveything. last year. And I bought the 2022PW with everything in june of this year I have no brand loyalty but when you go to buy a trail boss or the like High Country.AT4 Raptor,Tremor etc etc you cant buy them with the heated front and back or other option because of chips or what ever. Not counting the extra cost for a lesser truck. I know you are saying what about the TRK ,and I look at it as How about the P.W. and a harley for the same money. the whole rebel is just for the people that want a look alike P.W with a Deisel.and others will say better to have more and not use it then to have not enough and need it(payload) to me in my life it only counts in firearms.Just my thoughts TFL just put out a video on rebel if you havent seen it.Love your videos Congratz on the move Please stay safe and healthy
Thank you David! and I'm keeping the power wagon it was always kind of of my dream truck and it's held true for the year or so I've own it. and by judging by the price of the rebel I got it at a very good price. to me it's one of those rare vehicles were a manufacturer actually puts a little heart and soul into it and builds it right.
a lot of the "off road" trucks are show ponies without any real guts behind them. and that's fine because in reality alot of those off road trucks are just going to drive to the mall and back so who cares really. but the power wagon backs up it's name which is priceless to me.
but time will tell if the rebel is any good!
The base power wagon for 23 will be about $3000 more than the base rebel hd
Also I know they posted in their release that they will have a limited slip axel and a locking rear axle. It doesn’t make since they would come with both. I wonder if limited slip is standard locking rear axle is an option
My bet it is the same rear axle set up as the PW... the PW has been limited slip and locker for a loooong time.
So the PW has a limited slip and locker in the rear. and the rebel will most likely have the same rear end. but it's actually a wonderful idea and design. When the diff is unlocked it is a limited slip diff but when you lock up the diff it is fully locked. It's one of my favorite items on the PW to be honest. so when you are on wet or snowy roads in town the rear diff will always have tons of traction with Limited slip working when unlocked. but if you find yourself in some tough terrain you can fully lock up the diff. I don't understand why more truck don't have this.
yup the PW has has this for a while!
I didn’t know they had both. That’s cool. But why not just lock it when you need it
The prices of all these trucks are all insane because the US EPA is forcing legacy auto makers to pay emission fines to Tesla that costs hundreds of millions of dollars US each quarter! Ram is but one of them!
I was already thinking of upgrading my 2019 Rebel to a 2500 of some sort, next year. This may be a solution.
It would be a pretty awesome upgrade from the 1500 that's for sure!
@@TheGettyAdventures planning on more towing, over longer distances. Taking the family to see this beautiful country.
I hear you, I was starting to think about upgrading mt 2022 1500 Rebel to this ;), but I shall resist
@@flameredram1572 pricing is a killer. I'll probably end up with another trim level 2500 with the off-road package.
2500 Cummins rebel is 100x better because it’s diesel and more economic with more power and loading/towing capacity you have more advanced with a diesel
Now if ram took the Cummings from the titan and put in the power wagon that be something to buy so ya I would wait to see what the do to the the rebel HD especially if they eventually have front wheel lockers liike the power wagon just with the bigger 6.7 cummings before I would sell the power wagon
Why on Earth would they put a 5.0L diesel into a Heavy Duty 3/4 ton truck? Especially when they have a 6.7L available and have been using in their line of trucks....you want to be able to maximize towing capacity when dealing with heavy duty trucks therefore dealing with your powerplant, otherwise the truck is merely a paper weight limited by its engine/powertrain. Your comment is void.
Actually the ram 2500 rebel has a max towing capacity of 17,000lbs not with the diesel engine but with the 6.4 hemi. That's not a typo. The 6.7 Cummins is only rated to tow 15,000lbs on this truck, if you want that full 17k towing you need to option this truck with the gas engine.
The base level price just doesn't make sense to me on the rebel... unless they are going to raise the power wagon price in 2023. This would put it more in line with the rebel gas version which is what I think is what's going to happen unfortunately
Yes it does seem like that is the case. some folks have also commented that in 2023 the PW will also start at 69k usd which is a large increase.
They already raised the PW base price this l in the last year. It's crazy how things have changed. But to be fair it's still less than the Rebel base price .
I paid sticker, $68k for my 75th AE in June of 21.
As I'm sure you know, came with the epic interior.
I simply can't justify stepping down to a stripper for the same money just two years later.
@@leeryder676 yeah, I should have bought it then. Some things just don't work in my favor. 😬
@@danielmonighetti3891 all things for a reason buddy. Never deny destiny.
Hell I only have 3500 miles on mine and maybe I'm selling in the spring lol
If you get everything you need from your Power Wagon, don’t sell it. If you do go off-road a lot and get into moderate or difficult trails, don’t sell it. If you need more towing, sell it. If you are not going into trying off-road trails, then you can sell it and get the Rebel. Thing is, the money you lose, and the added cost of diesel fuel, means you will never recover those costs.
Diesels are not great off-road. If you get into mud and are off level, leaning, you will crap your pants!! Get ready to go downhill nose first if you start spinning. The Cummins is nice, but unless you tow heavy, why? Fuel economy is negated by the added costs of diesel fuel, then there’s DEF (not too much work, but use the best you can get), the oil changes are pretty expensive. Used to be you could go a lot longer with a diesel between oil changes, but newer gas engines have started to rival that. It’s about $10K CAD for the Cummins!!!😮😮.
On TFL, the payload was 2000 lbs. That’s petty. Buy an F150 with a better payload!! Haha.
Sorry. Ram has built a nice truck in the Rebel and it competes well against the F250 Tremor, but there’s a big difference between the peak power of the diesels, the payload and towing of the Tremor are both notably higher. Too much keeping up with the Jones’s.
The Rebel does have a lift.
Maybe now I can fnd a used Olive green PW to trade my 1500 in for at a decent price. 🤔
potentially yes. But generally it seems like people who own power wagon love them.
If you want to tow, fine go rebel.
The Power Wagon is about conquering.
So why not just throw helper bags on a pw to get that payload up? I personally would prefer a pw. The cummins is nice but for what I do a pw is better.
100% agree I'm not sure if you watched till the end it's a rather long video lol but I discussed why I not buying the Rebel HD. the PW is exactly the truck I need and will keep!
@@TheGettyAdventures I haven't got to finish it just yet lol. I got to the pricing and had to go work on a truck. I will finish it though.
I paid 72K for my 22 power wagon 2 months ago US , that’s what they are going for in the US . Mine is the level 2
fair enough! mine is only a level 1 but I did get the infotainment package with the 12 inch screen (I think that's what the package is called). and I mean the price is the price but it's just a little wild how much all these trucks have increased in price. either way I still think the rebel's base price should be below the PW.
@@TheGettyAdventures I totally agree !
No i think still is the best power wagon but maybe you need to wait for a Ram prospector
ram prospector is too rich for me sir!
the only way i would sell my Power Wagon is if they made a Power Wagon with a diesel. a true Power Wagon with a diesel is like the Wrangler with a 392...i bet they have been asking for a diesel in the power wagon for as long as they v8 in a jeep...the Power wagon is a beast. no locker no disconnect sway bar...will never do what a power wagon can do.
very much agree with you sir! and truth to be told the power wagon will never come with a Cummins. It's too heavy.
Not a solid front differential, not strong enough for a locker like a Toyota is and they don’t have a CRAWL control equivalent. I have bill decant in my Tacoma and I rarely if ever use it. If AEV can build this then Ram can.
I believe what Ram did is it brings a proven HD towing truck that is off road capable.
that is exactly what they did. and it makes perfect sense.
The PW can tow 17,000, just add airbags.
It honestly probably could lol
I’m sure it could! Got the same power and drive train. Just the suspension is holding it back.
Save yourself money and buy a loaded Tradesman or bighorn how you want and then get yourself a Carli suspension kit for it. Save you money and the suspension will be way better then their off-road crap. You won’t lose any payload. I personally think they make the best aftermarket suspension for ram and ford. These Ram rebels are stupid in price.
Sooooooooooooo.....
Let me understand this because I do like RAM; However "this" one factor doesn't make sense....
RAM can make "another wayyyyy overpriced" truck but still doesn't have a 12 speed transmission? 🤔
It is a brilliant move , but a real late one.
Coming back after watching the video, damn thats alot of money for the rebel. Ill just keep the power wagon
exactly how I feel! 80k us for a base level rebel with the diesel that looks identical to the PW. No thank you!
I have a 2006 bighorn 5.9l cummins quad cab short bed with a 6" lift on 35's. I have taken this truck everywhere. I've traveled cross country pulling a camp trailer with quad in the pickup bed, horse trailer, as well as snowmobiles without hardly knowing they're there and still get 14-16 mpg pulling...18-20 empty. I've also had it on many rough, rocky roads and trails as well as bumper deep snow at 8000+ ft elevation. I can truly say it's probably the best all around I could ask for. Are there other options that could be more specialized in certain areas for me...certainly! I have pondered the idea of a possible upgrade vs trick it out lots of times....but for say the at least $20,000+ more to get newer I figure I can make this truck everything I've ever wanted! I can upgrade the tranny to handle 600+ hp after some tuning, injectors, and turbo...put in front and rear lockers, an upgraded HD specialized off- road suspension like Carli off-road suspension, air bags to increase stability and capability for hauling weight, an exhaust brake, front bumper with winch that could also be put on rear...and probably a flatbed with toolboxes in front and behind tires so I can still tow a gooseneck with the 6" lift, stow tools and gear, and haul 2 snowmobiles/ quads on the deck if needed. Once the truck reaches this point, for the extra money, the rebel cummins/PW would only dream of being so cool!....So ya I've pretty much decided I'm keeping the truck forever to cherry it out and if I want the new luxary towing machine I'll just add a HD dually sometime down the road ...or could get one of those new off road capable canyons with all the gizmo cameras, etc for a nice small off-road rig...if you want to pay the $$$. Then again you could get an older Toyota pickup and make it pretty badass for the money is you don't need all the tech. But...I can also haul my quad, a side by side, camp trailer, or my horses/mules to where the trail gets too narrow/rough and keep going...best of all worlds...can't replace my 06 cummins!
Can you say AEV Prospector?
Agreed... but you forgot the XL. That is if one were to go the diesel route.
@@danieldalluge9435 Thanks. I guess I was referring to the XL. I had recently saw a you tube about the diesel Prospector.
those things are wicked. but you also better have deep pockets
Keep the wagon
that's what I'm 100% doing
They keep putting lipstick on that old cab design. The 1500 changed 4 years ago.
that is very true! that cab has been around since 2009 I believe for the 2500's anyways. certainly getting their money's worth out of this design. I wouldn't say there's anything wrong in particular but you would like to see some innovation as they keep jacking the price of these trucks up.
You should have sold the wagon before ya got it
6.4L gas < 6.7L diesel
The Cummins is 1000lbs heavier than the hemi? There’s no way. A 12 valve weighs 1000lbs fully dressed
I had read that the Cummins adds 500 lbs of weight over the 6.4 gasser
Yes sell your truck! Get the cummins lol its always better lol
Obviously I would love a Cummins lol but the power wagon is exactly what I've wanted for a long time!
Dude it’s not a power wagon replacement, you want diesel or you want power wagon but they’re not the same truck Jesus Christ
It's literally just a Cummins lol with rear lockers lol. Nothing special. Keep the wagon
exactly what I plan on doing sir!
$50k sticker 2015 same truck but 6soeed stick
