CLIP DESCRIPTION:
Solomon (Djimon Hounsou) convinces his son Dia (Kagiso Kuypers) to put down his gun by reminding him how much his family loves him.
FILM DESCRIPTION:
A South African mercenary and a Mende fisherman find their fates forever intertwined as they embark on a quest to obtain a rare and highly coveted pink diamond in director Edward Zwick's frantic adventure drama. Ripped from his family farm and forced to toil away in the sweltering South African diamond fields, Solomon Vandy (Djimon Hounsou) discovered an extraordinary rough stone of immeasurable value. Danny Archer (Leonardo DiCaprio) is a hired gun who specializes in the sale of so-called "blood diamonds" that are used to finance rebellions and terrorist organizations, and is currently serving time for smuggling. As a bloody civil war rages in Sierra Leone and Archer learns that Vandy has safely hidden the diamond in a place where no one would ever suspect, the pair enlist the aid of disillusioned American journalist Maddy Bowen (Jennifer Connelly) in recovering the treasure that has the power to save Vandy's family and provide the desperate Archer with a much-needed chance for redemption.

The look on Dia's face hearing all that just hurts. He was brainwashed into a cold-hearted killer.. But hearing his father's voice reminded him that he was loved. Those tears were the rebirth of a new Dia...
More like: Returning to the good Dia. Not a new one
You write my words🙏
Exactly🎉🎉
Very beautiful comment, be blessed🎉
This scene reminds me how powerful a father is in a man's life from when he's a child to a grown adult, I won't forget after I saw my father after so many years I broke down and hugged him I knew it wasn't his fault.
Wooaah dude... Im sorry for that with your father i Hope you and him is having great now days
You mean he was another victim of feminism / satan?
What a great Dad.
Indeed.... daddy back....oh yeeehh
4 years ago damn 😉
This scene alone just goes to show what an incredible actor Djimon Hounsou is and i think he deserves an oscar he is one of the very best, and what an incredible movie, simply amazing.
Xclusive and then he goes into fast and furious. Poor guy
Amen
How many times has he been robbed of an Oscar
Hounsou was perfectly convincing in every scene. That raw intensity and emotion was too pure for any other oscar nominee of that year to even compete in my opinion. In that prison scene near the beginning where the man accuses him of having a diamond so the inmates would attack him for it, and he immediately starts screaming "Where?! Where is it?!" and tears his clothes off to prove it just felt so primal I was almost trembling. And of course, his rage when he beats the man to death with a shovel.
+energysage Unbelievable performance. His acting was more like an insight to life in Sierra Leone. If this was a true story. I would be sold.

Indeed! You understand well!
Where do you live
Couldn't have said it better myself. I know he got nominated for an Oscar, but I still feel like his performance in this movie in underappreciated.
“You will come home with me & be my son again”
possibly the greatest movie scene ever.
"Groundhog Day" has great scenes to you should totally check out.... ;-)
@@GroundhogDayisAWESOME Your name tells it all lol.
Im with your opinion.
Amistad give us free says otherwise!
@@GroundhogDayisAWESOME it's a good movie but unfortunately before Djimon hit the acting scene! He was probably homeless modelling 4 Thierry Mugler
A remarkable performance. He deserved an Oscar for this.
It's really a great film, it's a pity that it is little known
The Oscars don't deserve him, it's the other way around.
Notice how of all the confrontations, this is the first one Solomon _doesn’t_ escalate. He fought Archer, he escalated when he met his family in the camp, he ends almost every disagreement with screaming.
But not here. He speaks in a calm, gentle voice and doesn’t demand he do anything. He does fall into old habits at the start, but he catches himself. He loves his son deeply, and for his sake he changes for the better.
Best character.
This scene is beautiful on so many levels. This is why sons need fathers. We all get lost sometimes. A good father reminds you who you are, and where you came from. He doesn’t judge you. He welcomes you back. They often ask simple questions that change everything.
‘What are you doing?’
“You are Dia Vandy of the proud Mende tribe
You’re a good boy who loves soccer and school.
Your mother loves you so much.
She waits back for you making plantains and eggplant stew with your sister, and the little baby. The cows wait for you, and Baboo; The wild dog who minds no one but you.
I know they made you do bad things, but you are not a bad boy.
I AM YOUR FATHER WHO LOVES YOU and you will come home with me, and be my son again.”
Wow. Just total wow. Tears. Literal tears.
''You're a good boy, who loves fufu and pounded yam.''
''De Plantain waits for you.''
Are you Ugandan?
Nebelung Cat yessir I’m half 🇺🇬 and half 🇸🇸
@E.V. Gaming
Plantains like platonoes a food NOT a plantation of that's what you think.
😆😆😁😁😁..😭
@E.V. Gaming Plantains and the palm oil stew.
Breathtaking background music, what a creation.
This scene always makes me cry. I cannot watch it without bawling.
Where the F*ck is Djimon Hounsou Oscar ?!
One of the best films
Djimon gave one hell of a performance in this movie. Goosebumps
Being a father...means running into a RUF camp in the middle of their drinking session, and pulling your boy out facing guns without any care for your own well being because he's your son and that's what a father does.
Powerful scene, this movie should have won a lot of Oscar’s
what an actor...... look in his eyes the whole time.......... this remind me of mel gibson in braveheart. AMAZING
CR7
The great thing about this scene is that Solomon's message applies to both Dia and Danny. They were both taken from their homes at the same age after witnessing unspeakable acts of violence and made to do bad things for a cause that they later learned was just a ruse for their leaders to get rich. They both made the decision that "This is Africa", and they might as well join in and use violence to get the riches for themselves, and here Solomon is saying that just because you did bad things doesn't mean you're a bad person and you can "come home" which both Dia and Danny do in their own ways.
I am so glad I found this comment! I watched this again recently, and was talking to my brother about the same idea. Basically Dia and Danny are two sides of the same coin: both essentially child soldiers forced to do terrible things. Dia was lucky enough to get out while he was still young enough, and that he had a father who loved him and wanted to save him from the bad things. Whereas Danny's father figure (the Colonel) may have raised him and taught him to survive, but never really cared about him or wanted to save him. Basically, Danny is what Dia would have grown up to become. I see it is a cautionary tale in the role of the father-figure, and I think Danny realizes this too in the end, which is why he makes peace with his death and is able to let Solomon, and the diamond, go. Danny makes the same choice as Dia, that even though he did bad things, he would not stay a bad person. It is significant that one of the last things he tells Solomon is to "take your boy and get him out of here", something he wishes someone would have done for him. What a masterpiece of writing/directing/acting. Thanks for the comment!
@@nickmcharnley That is a great analysis about the two different paths that they end up taking. What you said about Danny telling Solomon to "get him out of here" made me think back to the mission that he had from the very beginning to take the diamond and leave Africa. In a way the colonel was right; Danny's body never did leave Africa, but his soul and the true diamond of the story (Dia means "costly" in Krio and also is the first 3 letters of "Diamond") departed Africa in the form of Dia Vandy.
Exactly. One of the best films I’ve ever seen and I’ve seen them all
Actually what you guys mentioned in these comment section are not deeply presented in this film. But we can imagine by the thread of each scenes. That is the speciality of the direction.
Mind-blowing movie with deep message ❤
1:09 No matter what a child has done, a parent will never stop loving them.
Unless the parents a narcissist in which case they seek the destruction of their own child. Much more common then you’d understand obviously
Great movie, this scene is so touching. Brings tears to my eyes. All the shit Solomon and especially Dia had been through.
Djimon Hounsu is awesome.
Screw dicaprio...... Djimon should've won that Oscar!
Digimon ?

@@GroundhogDayisAWESOME Wow, you are stupid. Why would you say "screw Dicaprio"? They were not competing against each other, and neither of them won. Why screw anyone? You are dumb.
Djimon was robbed!

He should focus on French cinema, Djimon’s biggest mistake was to go down the block buster path and that’s a very bad idea!!
Djimon is so underrated as an actor had to tell friends in the theatre. I’m not crying you are.
Hounsou's performance here was outstanding, as well as in the shovel scene. I don't usually like war movies because they are way too tragic, but scenes like this make Blood Diamond an exception.
Great actor! his breathing after he said he loves the boy... damn gets me!
He doesn't need an Oscar, the Oscars need him.
Djimon Hounsou should have won the Oscar in 2007 for this scene. Truly amazing.
Superb writing, superb acting. Gets me every time.
What an underrated actor Hounsou is.
How many times has this man been robbed of an Oscar
Djimon was spectacular in this movie.
God-Tier Acting
perhaps the point where Archer decided to change his final life trajectory
Most powerful statement a father can make to his son...
Djimon Housou is such an underrated actor. It’s such a shame Hollywood has never utilized his talent properly.
Djimon Hounsou is such a great actor!
I cry every time I watch this omg
best scene of the movie. should of won a Oscar.

@@jameslaiton6753 Knockout? lol what?
"No one but you" 💕💕
This is why a father figure is so important in a young man's life. What kind of man a boy turns into is determined by his father. Nowadays, young men in the west are in trouble. The court systems, rabid feminism and a constant attack on masculinity has driven the father out of the family nucleus. And we will feel the ripple effect of this for generations in the west.
Wow, this movie is going to complete 10 years in this year... time flies.
Make it 14 now.
make it 15 now
Almost 16 years
Any dad will know the truth in this scene in a way others who ar, nt.. Dont. Very brautiful.... Great acting
父親に銃向けるシーンは本当に考えさせられた。この俳優たちの名演技にも感動した。
That’s a tear jerker for sure
Bad acting can ruin a good character, but good acting can turn an unknown character into lovely character!
Amazing acting and a true father statement this is. No one is bad when we born. But on our way to adult hood we turn around
Most beautiful movie scene in Hollywood.
What an incridible character u played... Djimon siiir...u r really a great actor...take love respect n honour from Bangladesh...i wish i were with u before rest of my life...♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️
Dude...it doesn't matter how many times I see this clip...makes me cry every time.....every ....single.... time....

I was born in the 90s but there was something magical about the time. I'll never forget it

The most touching and one of the best films i have ever seen.

Love versus survival instincts , love the emotions in this scene
Extremely powerful!
One of my favorite pistols, the USP. 🙌🏼
one of the best movies ever made
The inheritance of a father and son. Soloman kept his anxiety and fear under control to walk closer to Dia. Dia kept to not shoot his father because he knew deeply in his heart that he need help from the darkness in his mind. They wanted to do the right thing for each other.
This is God to all of us.
Rand Paul 2016 - Free Kent Hovind I agree completely brother
I agree too ^^
God left this place a long time ago bru
Those tears... are infectious...
My favorite bible story was always the prodigal son, not just because its a story of second chances, but because its nice to know we all have a father who says things like this to us.
If only Vader had been more like this the Galaxy would be a completely different place.
I love this film!! How is Djimon honsou Not in more films he is amazing
Theirs nothing like a Father’s Love for their Child!!!!! Daddy’s Baby Momma’s Maybe.💪🏾🥊✌️🥰💯percent Righteous!❤️
Great scene of the century,I once had this look from my father. This scene keep reminding me.Djimone is a great actor.

Damn.... this scene hit harder than a bullet
when i watch this movie it's the first time i saw djimon hounsou while watching him i already judge him as an a best supporting actor.
Hounsou can act. This guy needs more roles. He should be playing the lead.

Absolutely outstanding scene. Beautifully done. Such an amazing movie.
This is an underrated movie.
Truly great movie!

amazing acting
Turn on captions, you will be confused
Honsou carried the whole film himself, he as the one who had to act. Dicaprio was just playing himself, and the accent as not convincing. I don't think it was fair how LDC got the star billing all to himself.
Tweh, makes me cry
