I'd be willing to give it a chance (in spite of the heavy-handed messaging) if it would at least just take itself seriously. But for the most part, the revival era has tended to present itself from the audience's perspective, not the CHARACTER'S perspective. In other words, to the audience (behind the 4th wall), the Dalek looks like a giant pepperpot and the sets are wobbling. But to the CHARACTERS, it's a vicious, menacing Dalek and this place were in is a real place, with real danger. I want to be told the story from THEIR perspective, not MINE. I want to be sucked into THEIR world to escape MINE, and so when The Doctor consults with Romana, I'm there with them, listening intently to find out how the Doctor plans to get us out of this jamb we're in.
I don't want to watch a television programme where THEIR world looks/behaves like MINE. Why would I watch that? I see the real world all day, everyday. I watched DW to GET AWAY from that.

Those 7 days numbers for the first two episodes are on a par with some of the overnights from Capaldi. Back when 4 million overnight was considered a failure and led to recasting the doctor.
If I was Capaldi or Colin Baker I'd be spitting blood over being replaced when my viewing figures were much better..
I endured capaldi run just because he is such an amazing actor. But the writing was abysmal. What an waste of potential. Now the writing is 10x worse and not even the actors deserve my time, also the weather is amazing those days and the grass is asking to be touched.
@@itsasecrettoeverybody Capaldi absolutely deserved better. Moffat was clearly out of gas and should have stepped down. I can only count on one hand the number of Capaldi episodes that were decent, like "Flatline." Jamie Matheson wrote the best stuff while Moffat was slowly going woke. Capaldi's final season is unwatchable...terrible scripts, one of the worst companions ever cast, and woke garbage from start to finish. Although to be honest the "woke" shit started with Missy and the male-to-black-female regeneration (with accompanying woke speech) in "Hell Bent."
Most of the Capaldi episodes were rubbish, but I really enjoyed 'Listen', 'Heaven Sent', and ''Mummy on the Orient Express', and Capaldi is one of the best three Doctors along with Tom Baker and Eccleston for me.

Of course, it won't work, because even if the manipulated reviews gets somebody to view the program, their quality level and/or heavy handed "message" promotion will not keep the newbie watching. The ones who actually enjoy the message (not just like promoting it as a virtue signal, but who will spend their time on it) are pretty much already aware of it, there's not a big untapped audience. It can have at most very marginal effect.

One of weirdest things regarding monsoon episode & supposed homophobic response. Many of same people who disliked the unesseary messaging that is clearly built into gcutti Dr who are same ppl (like myself) who enjoyed Paul O'Grady (as himself) or lily savage. RTD and gcutti have turned DW into a big gay bus, while 99.9 % have no problems with gay/trans LGBTq community rtd and GC are the real culprits of so much dissatisfaction. DW is primarily a family show -which brings me back to the late Paul O'Grady -he could and often was message driven but his world view was not narrowed by his homosexuality it was all embracing. Sadly this view isn't shared by current custodians of DW

To add perspective here. As a kid i loved me some cartoons. Mighty Max in particular. I didn't realize as a kid it was created to sell the Mighty Max toy. I thought it was just a bad toy for a great show and I scoffed at the resemblance it had with Polly Pocket. I didn't realize it was the same company and that the toy came before the show.
In fact I didn't know all the shows I liked were vehicles to sell plastic, an unwanted byproduct of the oil industry.
They kept these shoes on for a while but quickly pivoted and made new ones and new plastic shapes to buy. Now tv shows do the same as that but what is the product here you think?

Review sites are not review sites if they are controlled by the production companies. The point of honest reviews is that you take on board the critism & praise and use this to improve upon not ignore and spew out constant shite.

My understanding was the creative powers were brought in the contract and given to RTD, disney also apparently have some input according to RTD but they have denied that. The BBC apparently have no control or say over what is currently being done with the show.

The show is being made by RTDs production company. Disney has bought the streaming rights and the BBC is broadcasting it, but basically it's all the same production crew as in 2005

Holy shاt! _Months_ ago, I was telling people that so many of the dw-related comments on both y t & twit saying how excited they were about Jinx had something about them that felt inorganic & like an astroturf op. They weren't as obvious as these, repeating the same thing word for word and such, but they just had that feel. When any organisation / show hides away its critics, it *knows* it’s making a bad product, no matter the public face they put out.
If the BBC truly believed it was awesome they will let the bad reviews ride as well as the good ones and trust people to make up their own minds, but this is 2024 and you have to love everything that’s “new” and if you don’t, well, your a grass-toucher.

Honestly man this is just heartbreaking. I hope the show is cancelled, I hope RTD, Ncuti, and everybody else who told us to f*ck off get what’s coming to them.
And then, I hope, that in a couple decades, we revisit this silly old show and revive it with the heart and soul it’s so desperately lacking right now.
What makes me laugh is the hubris of RTD to already start production for a second series with filming under way for a while, making any remedial action very difficult unless they heavily delay the next series.
RTD and Ncuti, and everybody else involved, deserve everything they get coming to them for destroying such an iconic character and pointing, laughing and insulting their core audience.
It gets worse. The 7 day +4 screen ratings are in for episodes 1 & 2. 4.01 million for episode 1 and 3.91 million for episode 2. Tragic. I am willing to bet that the low of the Sea Devils Special's 3.47 million will be beaten by at least one of the remaining episode.

Funny how every time something Disney related comes out, they always have to go into damage control mode. They wouldn’t have had to do any of this if they respected the characters, respected the source material, and respected the fans. Good writers wouldn’t go amiss either. And they need to calm down their raging hard on for DEI. We don’t care. We want good actors to make a good story with competent writers.

I think the only way to save Doctor Who is by going back to its origins. David Bradley is a brilliant actor and played the part of William Hartnell and the First Doctor with honesty. I suspect that globally and with the British fans the way it’s going Doctor Who is finished when Ncuti Gatwa leaves, whether that’s two or three seasons. If the BBC made a Spin-off of the First Doctor of quality, this could be a winner with the fans and audiences of good sci-fi dramas. Maybe this should be targeted at a more adult viewer rather than young children.
