Good experiment! I did look into getting an attachment as well, way back when tool stores were the only place to get them, but decided against it at the time.
The first hole is the hardest as there is no room for the chips to go plus cutting a full size hole, Perhaps drilling with a forstner bit, then squaring up the hole with mortise bit might be easier.. Also the chisel part needs sharpening over time depending on the wood you are cutting, more frequently if cheaper steel was used.
True, overall its not a perfect solution and there are better things out there

Looks like the bit is wandering a little before the chisel makes contact with the wood, i think thats why you're getting the scallops in the back wall of the mortice. Try adjusting the bit upwards a little so it contacts at the same time as the chisel.
Also, like all chisels, the backs should be polished flat and the edges honed before use. A little oil or wax on the outside might help with the pullout friction too.

Yes, later on when I messed around with it more I found that the drill bit was in the incorrect position. And I did exactly as you say and the results were better.
Good point on the chisel, not thought about that. Will definitely have to sort the chisel out.

Neat jig Tomasz. I too have been tempted by these mortise drill bits on aliexpress, and didn’t realise they needed a special adapter to use in a pillar drill. So phew, you’ve saved me a tool buying mistake! I would probably rarely use it, you’ve got no excuse now to not be making mortise and tenon joints …
On clamping the workpiece down, those quick release clamps don’t exert much clamping pressure. I’ve progressively replaced mine with F and Bessey Duo clamps that are a lot stronger

Thanks for your video, you really made something very useful. I have also looked at an adapter in the past but they were too small for my machine. This is a nice solution. I have a 300Kg metal milling machine with an x and y table. It must be sturdy enough for this application.
Yes your machine would easily tackle this.
Hey Tomasz, That is a great jig you made, and I enoyed the video! It might be worth adding a depth stop and two stops to set the width of the mortise. Might be worth a follow up?

yes I too heard conflicting reports regarding TEMU, but to be perfectly honest I've had some good quality cheaply priced stuff, I've also had some expensive rubbish, but happily not as much of the latter..
That's true had the same. I just wonder if you actually get what you ordered or is Temu a bit of a scam?
@CasualDIY usually get what I order, not had anything sent as replacement YET, 99% of what I've received is good for the price, in fact I've had some items better quality than the "big brand" names I've had previously

Very interesting video. Thanks for sharing. Did you make a video of making the sliding drill press table? My simple drill press table has only one fixed position and I have to reposition and reclamp the work piece if I want to make a row of holes. A sliding drill press table would make life a lot easier.

Nice idea. Think I will stick to using a chisel though. The problem is that the actual attachments are a lot stronger and doesn't flex. Nice experiment though.
For an odd mortise it will be fine but for more often use I would buy something else
Tomasz, good idea to try save a few quid but mate be careful with your new part as there seems to be a bit of wobble with your design whilst on the way down to the piece of wood. As always brother 💯% 👍 🇬🇧.
I think I had the drill bit too high. I was messing around with it more and lowered the drill bit. The wobble disappeared.
Had to laugh, I did the exact same many many years ago, I still have them in the box in pristine condition ... might give this a try 👍
Is it just the angle, are you tiny or is that an absolutely massive pillar drill 🤣 ... away to watch your younger self reviewing it, although I don't think it's available anymore!

Yes in Ash. Similar results, just had to use even more force to go through the process
maybe you need to remove the motor from your drillpress and replace with a cherap sds drill...

£20 to £30 on TEMU, I'm thinking of trying one, as I have bits & chisels from before my morticer died
