  • I recently invested in several options to make mortises easier! I show you how I've made them in the past and a few new ways that are way faster!! A set of end mill bits, a Mortising Attachment for the drill press, and a dedicated mortiser. Which one is the right one for you? Making mortises is a great option for woodworking joinery!!

Excellent review of the several ways of making mortises. I really like the simplicity of the end mill technique. Thank you so much!

I appreciate that! I get frustrated sometimes with the CZcams algorithm because I feel more people would enjoy my videos, but when I get comments like yours, it keeps me going. Thanks so much!

I like that sliding table design on the vevor, much better than my Shop Fox where you have to move the actual workpiece. Also just wanted to point out that it looks like you’re having to apply way too much pressure when mortising, it should plunge in easier than that, especially in that soft wood. Flattening the outsides of the chisel is a good idea, but the actual sharpening of the chisel is done on the inside with a cone shaped thing that can be chucked in a drill or put in a screwdriver handle. I’ve also found that sometimes you have to play with that space between the end of the bit and the chisel to get it just right.

Yes you are correct! I’ve actually since ordered the sharpening cones and received them today, hopefully they’ll make all the difference!
