Our Story:
We are Carissa, Iwan & Frankie the sausage dog, and in 2020 decided one night over a bottle of wine that moving from North Wales to Portugal would be a good idea. Within a month we were on the road to Portugal to find the perfect piece of land to call home. We picked up Albi, Joao and Simao the cats along the way, as well as Diogo the podengo and a flock of chickens.
Subscribe to follow our project as we turn an old stone barn into our home, and learn the ropes of looking after a piece of land to make an abundant garden and one day, our very own winery.
I didnt want it to end ! Especially when the rain came in and all the animals were sleeping peacefully , beautiful footage !

I loved the end, they were so happy to walk and spend time at the lake. You should do some slow motions of them running and the way Diego jumps and hops, it would be so cute❤❤❤. This is such a lovely couple & it’s obvious how much they love the pets & how much the pets love them. I find that the animals really add a lot to these vlogs.

Of all the programs like yours, I have to say I like yours the best. There is something so tranquil and soothing about your property. I know it hasn't reached the endgame, so to speak, but you have an uncanny ability to make your place homey.
The cats would like to request a cat flap please. They're quite sure this will add tons of value to the house. Who am I to argue? Besides, arguing with cats is pointless. Lol!
You should be able to dab/smear the grease on the gears of the mixer with one of those narrow sponge paint brushes. It might just be easier to buy a small grease gun.

If you put PVA in the cement. That's a waterproofer. You can also paint it on. Just water it down. It's only wood glue. It's good waterproofing stuff. Bitumen is also a good paint on waterproofing membrane.

With the edge of the roof you've got a straight cement edge meeting the metal/plastic edge of the roofing finish and any sun or wind will cause a crack. In the UK it would be easy enough for you to either use lead roll to cover it or a flashband (bitumen with Aluminium). Do you have anything like that at builders merchants. It's got to be pliable in the sun and wind, UV resistant and durable so not a lot to ask for, that way any movement is taken up by the cover flashing. Small leaks are the most annoying to deal with.

I moved to Spain in May 2021 just avoiding Brexit and as lockdown was ending in the UK. Loving what I've seen in your Portugal off grid home so far - you're such an inspiration 😊
Use an old paint-brush to grease. Much easier to work with. Use a membrane for the roof-leaks. It looks like cloth... then brush on with roof-seal. It's rubberised paint.

If you need to get the greece into a more precise place, cut the tip off a corner of a plastic bag and use like a piping bag. Works really well.👍

By far the most work saving tool must be your cement mixer. It rarely stops working. It makes things so much easier, and when you are done building you can use it for mixing compost, potting soil mixes and loads more.👍

In the USA a lot of the off grid CZcamsrs use a water filter that has ultraviolet light to kill the bacteria in the water. Have you checked into that type of filter for your well water?
I follow Finca Life and they have a series of 3 filters, the last in line being a ultraviolet light filter. Really good channel and they are off grid and on a budget like you. Lots of useful tips for you, Andy explains things really well. ❤

I had a Dickens of a job weathering in where my steading abutted the bothy, I ended up using a lead flashing… that usually needs a joint to be fitted in but like yours it’s built with stone, I ended up rendering the wall and cutting in a Chanel with a disk cutter, good luck as always, regards from Scotland 🏴

flashing tape or flash band, is great for waterproofing any cracks where roofing sheets or tiles etc, meets brick or stone, it looks like lead flashing, & comes in various widths & on a roll, you just peel a paper or plastic of the back & stick it on, to bridge small cracks or gaps, also if there is any nail holes in roofing sheets etc, where water can get in around a fixing, just cut a small piece of flashing tape & stick it over the nail or screw head, & if its put on, on a cold day, just melt the sticky bitunen on the back ,with a small blow torch, then stick it on, but in the warm sun, a blow torch wont be needed, btw i,ve enjoyed all your videos, well done to both of you, from the north of england,( lakes)
We used a product that sealed our concrete walk because it was close to our foundation and rain was running down into basement😊

There is a paint that you can buy and it will waterproof the cement. Here in the states it is by a brand DAP.

It would be brill.. but not possible for us unfortunately - unless it came by helicopter 😅
I went for one. My experience is that Containers in Mediterranean Climate are not so favourable, at least when they are not heavily isolated. Burying is also not a great solution for that as they are not designed for the earth pressure on the walls. Though the sole benefit is a safe storage room imho.
A rubber glove, seriously, a latex glove comes in handy with any lube, it can get messy. Great advice though, it will definitely prolong the life of your mixer. If you have problems with where the new cement cracks against the metal, mastic is a non hardening sealant that should sort that. It comes in a tube like silicone.👍

I would just give the roof cement a coat of bitumen paint to seal it and help with any cracking.
