    📖 Our Story:
We bought this stone house in Italy during the pandemic in 2020. The house was a ruin and we saved everything we could, unfortunately that meant only four stone and clay walls! The back wall, against the terrain, was close to collapse; the roof beams were eaten and basically reduced to dust; the inside separation walls were easily taken down and the whole project turned into a heavy renovation/rebuild.
Follow our journey as we turn this old stone house into a beautiful home 😊.

I love that you used the stones from inside the house to make the patio, it’s absolutely beautiful. I would continue to use these beautiful stones and a wooden bench would look wonderful on the patio. You did an amazing job!

I think a wood beam pergola would be perfect over the terrace to have a place for climbing roses, ivy or beans. The wood stained to match the window casings. It gives a place to string fairy lights to vertical and horizontal elements, provide a little break up of the scorching sun, but still allow the sunshine to come in. A birdbath or water fountain lined in azure blue mosaic tile will add color that reflects the sky. Outdoor square cushions, like those used on boats or patio benches simply placed onto the stone wall will provide comfortable seating and color without any permanent structure,

I know it’s too late to comment but in the spaces you could grow thyme it’s a herb and it’s very good in rock garden type setting. When your feet brush up on it it releases lovely scent. Also succulents on the perimeter like sedums the ground cover variety. They come in different colors and leaf shape so have tiny flowers. Also if you have large pots filled with flowering plants it will add some amazing color. The basic hard scape is set now. You can add plantings to soften the space.

Agreed! Here in California, creeping thyme (pink flowers) are popular between pavers, and the scent is lovely. A few lavenders in bright pots in the patio area for the scent and color would be good, and help to soften the stone as well.

Not if it dry and hot the moss won’t grow. Looks like one the summer heat starts it’s hot hot hot. Maybe they’ll build a pergola for shade seating in the future. Their home is lovely and the views are magical.

    Salut !

A friend did something similar bit instead of grass he transplanted indigenous mosses. We thought he was crazy when he put clumps of moss into his blender, added a milk whey solution blending it all together. The resulting mixture was dribbled on the ground between patio stones. Within a season he had lush green moss growing between the stones.
Wishing you and your furry supervisor a blessed week filled with gentle seasonally appropriate weather and restful evenings in your restored home. Peace

Congratulations - 100K subscribers! Woo hoo! My recommendation for the terrace would be to be surface it with crushed red granite, compacted to a firm surface, alternated with a different, darker flat stone to place large stone/pottery jars containing flowers or ornamental shrubs, or polished concrete raised garden beds for flowers/herbs. You could also have one or two beautiful outdoor wooden bench seats as well, because you have decent length along the raised terrace. Whatever you decide, I"m sure it will be well-designed and executed. Your outdoor living area will be magnifique!

A wood seat would be very nice and will also be easier to sit on. Glad your planning a pergola because with West exposure it would be unbearable to use in the afternoon. As usual you've thought of all of that already and planned a lovely natural remedy! I look forward to seeing the results. At night you could not sit on the rocks that lined the street because the heat from the rocks burned your skin. I like the idea of wood seating on the rock along the patio. A wooden bench stained like the window frames. Also consider painting the table and chairs sage green to contrast with darker green grass

I like the idea of a wooden deck. It would tie in with the wood framed windows and doors. The terrace looks like a lovely area to relax.

I like the idea of wooden seats with some vintage cushions or rugs. Thyme would be a good idea in some of the spaces between the paving. But it looks amazing anyway 😊

I love the patio stones. I look forward to seeing grass growing between the stones. I should have some permits available to start my plumbing and electric in the cottage. I learned so much from you both. Very exciting. Your home is beautiful.

Might you create another bench such as the one your woodburner sits on, but with cocciopesto mixed into the skim coat? Whatever material you use for the banquette, I would love to see some of the rich burnt tones of your door surrounds and roof tiles. I love that you used the original floor stone, and plan to use existing vines to shade yourselves!

I agree that a wooden bench for seating would be really nice. Lighting would also be very nice and useful. Perhaps some simple all-weather cushions for comfort as well. It’s really a very lovely space.

Love it! After the grass grows in and few potted plants it will look wonderful! Putting wood that sits atop the rock bench with built in tables would look nice, then you could have a few throw pillows.

    Many comments regarding a wooden bench😂… 😮
no, I do not see a wooden bench in your landscape with your house and with your terrace … I see more stone seating/table and lots of seating pillows that are made of water resistant/waterproof material so you don’t need to run and get them when it’s raining❤❤
I do not speak French nor Italian, yet your videos in both languages are extremely soothing and a pleasure to listen to❤
I discovered you a few months ago, and very much enjoy all of your undertakings❤

The stone patio turned out beautiful and all the material was already there and somewhat flat. Having grass grow between the joints is a good idea. The metal pergola is a must for shade, perhaps adding a potted olive tree in an oversized planter would also help with shade and something green. A wooden bench (or just a wooden platform) on top stone terrace would be much softer than sitting on a rock, but I've also used a rock as a pillow while camping, lol. Honestly, you can do just about anything out there and I would like it. As always, excellent work, ciao!

Creeping thyme would add seasonal color & nice fragrance. It's not an invasive but would slowly take over the bare spots. Beautiful terrace! 👍👍

I do think the wooden bench idea fits a lot better into the pergola and is much softer than using stone, but that is solely a personal view. I feel it allows you to evolve the whole ambience of the inside/outside effect of and on this area. Love the thought you both put into the project. Regards

Bravo👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻 it turned out beautiful and I think it’s so cool your re-using stones from the original structure! IMHO, I keep the consistency with the stones and then get some pots and fill them with beautiful bright flowers to add color and break up the fluidity of all the stones. I also think a wooden bench would be pretty! However, you might rethink the metal structure for shade since one good windstorm and it will take down that metal. Just a thought. Beautiful beautiful new Terrace! Congratulations 🙏💃🏻🥰💞

Gorgeous-I love it! The only thing I’m thinking of is soil can become hydrophobic-especially under hot/dry conditions. If you get water sitting on top of the soil, it will float/run-off/leave a mess. Maybe adding tamped-in pea gravel or crushed granite will help, as those always remain permeable.

Looks very nice. I would suggest some brightly colored ceramic pots filled with flowering plants in the corners to break up the stone. Some up on the seating area, too. Some custome cushions, also in some bright colors, on the seating area would not only break up the stone but be more comfortable for guests.
