One of my friends is Uruguayan and Slovenian. I'm Ashkenazi Jewish, Moroccan, Lebanese, Mexican, Italian, Spanish, American Indian, and Serbian. Another friend is Russian and Argentinian. When the three of us speak Spanish amongst each other in public, we all get the weirdest looks. People look at us like, "Who are there gringas?" and "Damn, these gringas are loud." My Peruvian, Mexican, and French-Canadian boyfriend even calls us "las blancas." My friends debate constantly if Uruguay or Argentina has better food, but it's a tie.

Generalmente las diferencias que por lo menos los Montevideanos tenemos con los de buenos aires son cosas como: "Masa" en buenos aires es algo muy bueno, "es una masa", en cuanto esta expresion hoy en dia no se usa tanto en Uruguay (y capaz que Argentina tampoco) la misma frase es algo negativo en Uruguay "esta pelicula ya la vi, es una masa".
Tambien cosas como "bo", "ta" y alguna que otra que nos diferencian, y por ultimo, generalmente, por lo menos en buenos aires hasta donde yo se (conozco BsAs) se diferencia claramente a un Uruguayo cuando los ves con termo y mate, porque el argentino medio no sale con el termo y mate a la calle.
Yo no tomo mate y no uso "ta" tanto, y soy montevideano bien centrico, asi que generalmente paso totalmente desapersivido en buenos aires cuando pregunto algo o converso con alguien, a no ser que lo mencione especificamente "soy uruguayo", la mayoria de la gente no se da cuenta.

Segun tengo entendido, los uruguayos andan con su mate y su termo por todos lados, mientras nosotros tomamos mate en casa solamente (ocasionalmente en una plaza, costanera, universidad/trabajo,etc) , puede ser?
Si, aca en el sur de Argentina (Patagonia) tambien tomamos terere con jugo o gaseosa, pero mas que nada en el verano.

I can´t differentiate the Argentinian accent from the Uruguayan accent.

Yeah, I guess the accent from Buenos Aires and the one from Uruguay is pretty much the same. But a lot of people forget that there are WAY more accents in Argentina than the one from Buenos Aires. You can differentiate someone from Córdoba, Santiago del Estero, Corrientes o Mendoza, for example, just by their accent!
and also uruguayan accents are different, por example in rocha that is inside of uruguay they speak like "tu eres", not like in the rest of uruguay that is "vos eres"... also in the frontier we have portuñol that is a mix of portuguese and spanish... i´m from montevideo and i dont know portñol jejeje

Accent isn't universal in the country. What we usually refer to rioplatense accent is spoken mainly in Montevideo and Buenos Aires, in that particular case the Argentinian accent is more pronounced than the Uruguayan.

I've been considering traveling to Uruguay to work abroad(from US). I work with many people from MX, BR, PR, VE. They all say Paraguay in our conversations. I also love the thumbnail of the guy holding a thermos and a cuia, lol. A Brasilian I talk to regularly tells me I would be a good fit in Uruguay. Seems like a wonderful place.
