The Cuban accent is so much fun. Cuban and Chilean accents are my fav accents for informal talks. I'm always mistaken for Cuban when I visit the US. Puerto Ricans think I'm Cuban sometimes

Really? Last Christmas I went to a Mexican restaurant with my host white parents and the waiter was a white dude from Puerto Rico and asked me: "Sorry to ask, are you Cuban?!" Then I go: I'm Mexican, why? He said: bc of your accent. Then I go again: I haven't even spoken in Spanish! My host dad said: maybe he thought you were Cuban bc you're CAFÉ CON LECHE (coffee and milk) lol I guess I can pass for black and white together lol
My host dad said that bc I look mixed, just like coffee and milk look together, you know. And about the waiter, I'm not sure why he thought I was Cuban. Maybe bc I'm very tall and tanned. I know Cubans r very diverse but that's how people see them most of the time: tanned and tall. You live in Florida? Yeah, Cubans love coffee, too. I went to the highest ranked restaurant in Iowa, it's called The Lost Cuban in Cedar Rapids, IA.

Well, many Cubans live here in the island, but it's not true that Puerto Ricans are Cubans. We might be very similar, and our nations are like sisters who loves each other... But two different nations.
Our flags are quite similar. The colors varies a little bit, and the dimensions too.
The cuban flag's blue is a different blue than puerto rican flag's blue.
The cuban flag is 1:2 in measures while the PR flag is 3:5.

The people are incredibly warm. I just came back from my 1 month trip in Cuba. We went to Habana, Vinales, Trinidad, Santiago and Baracoa. It was amazing. But yes indeed, we learnt about how psychologically tortured Cubans are. The government is COMPLETELY ridiculous. I wish we could do something to help Cuba be liberated from Castro. And the revolution and all that crap... It isn't even all that great! I thought Che Guevara was a hero, but he ended up a tyran, killing people who did not agree with the revolution. Cubans don't get a just salary, they don't get some basic human rights, they can hardly buy enough food for their family. It is utter horror.

I'm Filipino and most of our major celebrations, whether it be a holiday or a town feast "pyesta" would always include a whole roasted pig which we call '"lechon". 😃
Ours is called lechon too. I had a Filipino roommate in college and we bonded over that.

I love how we have a strong sense of community (obviously it's not exclusive to Cubans) and we really appreciate getting along and just talking about EVERYTHING passionately. Also the fact we are determined to appreciate the best things in life no matter what, maybe because of our humble origins. There's a saying: el cubano es como el delfín; con el agua al cuello se sigue riendo, or something like that. Love the way the entire video is put together, not offensive, downright hilarious and accurate, not afraid to embrace stereotypes, and not distinguishing the diaspora from the inland Cubans, because in the end no matter where u are u are still surrounded by family

Is it sad that a Cuban (such as my self) whose first language is Spanish but can barely speak it now? I'm trying to learn Spanish now but it's taking a long time. I used to speak toddler Spanish but like every child, I ended up wanting to be like my dad (whose not Cuban) and learn to speak English. I was at that point where it wouldn't stick if I changed languages. Also the way I greet my abuelo and he greets me is "Hey cabrón. How you been?"
