I maxed out all the sales and sponsor discounts, and bought a few items to hit the free post. All good stuff and gave loads of change compared to just getting another higher end pad.
Comfy, warm enough, and pretty quiet which some other pads aren't. No crisp packet racket every time you turn. Pretty good value; pleased with my purchases.
Not everyone has tons of money to spend. Plenty of parents have to kit out more than themselves. These are a lot better than the cheaper stuff out there. Time will tell if they last.
I have top end kit, but don't always need that level especially if lending stuff out to get others to give the outdoors a go..
Nice review. I own several pads but all are very warm, lite weight, and expensive unfortunately. Nemo insulated Tensor, Exped 7R, REI pad. I too am a side sleeper and love the wide/long Nemo pads.
It's interesting, sometime it seems there's just as big of a difference in terms of preference and style of gear between ultralighters and lightweighters as there is between 7lb base weight ultralighters and 9lb base weight ultralighters.
Bought it mummy version on Ali launch sale for 60$, looks good quality for this price) Same with side buffles insulation, so I think it's only 3 season pad for temperatures above 0 C
Thankfully I already own a Thermarest NeoAir. So I'm not the least bit tempted by the price. What I got from this is that "Made In China" still means "Cheap".
Totally agree, it isn’t a high quality pad like Thermarest or Nemo. But for them looking for a cheap solution starting up their hiking career and like the first gear set up… I believe it can serve well and then upgrade later if necessary.

I have to disagree with this review, in my experience you're getting a lot for your money with this pad. I agree it is a bit bulky but I don't have any problems getting the air out of it and putting it back into its bag, just fold into thirds length ways and roll towards the valve, that works fine for me and it fits into the bag fine. In terms of comfort it's the most comfortable pad used for this 6' ft 2" side sleeper and though I wondered if it would be long enough it's fine for me ( I have the wide version ). I also don't find any problem with the sides as you've mentioned, I've always felt warm on this pad. The pad has a soft spungy feel which I actually like and is just really comfortable in my experience. My only real criticism is the bag it came in, the stitching for the handle literally just feel apart at one end, but I couldn't be bothered to send it back, I'll probably repair it myself at some point. IMHO, for the price, comfort and warmth this is an excellent buy and much better than your review suggests, it's not a noisy pad either. The criticism about the valve placement it a bit weird for me as well, it should be on the bottom for me, once you've used a pad once or twice you know how much air you need and I never need to adjust a pad in the middle of the night, I don't really want the valve apparatus making things uncomfortable or getting in the way on the top.
I said in the review I believe it to be worth the money spent 🤷🏼♂️ being half the price of an xlite or tensor so not bad, not bad at all… even if I addressed everything I believe could be improved on next version.
Air shrinks and expands due to temperature so if inflating and it gets colder you might need to add some more and if the valve is in the bottom it’s more fuss… same thing in the morning or during the night you might want to decrease a bit.
You get a lot of pad for that money, but far from perfect. In my opinion.

Just to say got my BlindBanana custom Morado55 in ultraTX & just got back from its first use on a 200mile trail. This thing is absolutely amazing & can't thank you enough for your suggestion...August makes premier kit & I much prefer the new material for the couple extra grams.

I have the uninsulated Alpkit Numo which also has the larger outer tubes and it's a design I find really comfortable, but the pack size of this Flextail is just too big. I did enquire with Flextail if they had a lighter & smaller packing 3 R pad on the pipeline, they said not but would pass on my feedback to the relevant dept.

Save yer money. It is not a good idea to compromise on quality when it comes to outdoor gear.

Did you use the pump to suck the air out of the pad? That makes a huge difference in oack size, ive found and gets them pancake thin.
My EXPED Ultra 7R is my favored pad for comfort (I'm also a side sleeper) and os much the same construction and packed size. I find that rolling is a poor way to pack that pad; flatrening it and folding it to the dimension of the backpack seems to work far better and giveore usable room. It can also help add a little structire to the pack, especially if youre usong a framless option.
I was disappointed to hear about the lack of insulation in the baffles.
Have you tried Flextail's pullow? I tried it on a whim after realizing that shape worked better for me and buying a foam pillow for my bed. I was flatly amazed how good that Flextail pillow is and actually slept on ot for over a month as my everyday pillow. The valveaterial could he a bit better but it nevet leaked on me, and at just $27USD its hard to go wrong. The pack size was worrying but i think theyeasures the stuff sack dimensions; it actually gets MUCH smaller than that without any real effort, and is just slightly bigger than my Sea to Summit pillow.
Hi 👋🏻, tried to use the pump to empty the pad but the air gets trapped anyways and only the outer baffle (where the valve is) was empty but a lot of air left in the others 🤷🏼♂️ tried but didn’t work very well.
I too fold the pad, depends on which one how… but the Nemo gets soo small I fold it like in the video but the Xtherm I fold and have gains my back.
Never tried the pillow from Flextail, I use the Dreamsleeper from Big Sky… a great pillow.
@@roberthammenrudh yeah, you have to keep the valve area clear because (as I'm sure you observed) it'll try to suck up the underside and block the air flow. All you need is a slight pinch or deformation of the material and it'll usually work fine.
As an aside; you mentioned the top vs bottom. Is the material different between the two? If not, just use it 'upside down' I guess so that the valve is facing upward. Just a thought but since I haven't gotten one myself I obviously have little idea what the heck I'm on about. ;)

The pad has a clear top and bottom I think, just by looking I decided that was the case but sure… maybe ok to use upside down 🤷🏼♂️ a question maybe for #flextail to answer.
