➡Hi! In the video I say and show that the size M is 65 cm wide. It is not! I it is 52 cm (my measurement). Somewhere in the writing proces I took the Exped number from the Wide (Why? Don't have a clue) and forgot about my test notes. The rest is correct. Thanks to David for noticing. Of course I hate this but let's be positive: it proves I am human and not AI 😉.
Great review. I own 6 exped pads of various r values. and I am so happy with them. Cost is just too much but the quality is there. The thermal camera was a brilliant touch on the review. Many thanks Stephan
Hello Sir, after stumbling across your channel in my search for a lighter more compact hiking mat I found your review to be both very informative and enjoyable.I have to confess that I rate Expeds gear very highly. My focus now is to try and reduce the volume and weight of the key gear items that l carry in my pack.As i get older the hills in Victoria,Australia seem to get steeper as each year passes.Having now subscribed to your channel,I will be keen to follow your journey.Ciao from Australia.👍
Good review but you have the medium WIDE version (65 cm width) and on the website they say it's 655 gram. Also the pack size is 27 x 13 for the MW version. Just to be correct.
Hi David, Thanks for the kind words and for sharing your thoughts 😄. I am all about being correct of course but the wrap around packaging and the pouch states clearly I have a M. But like I mentioned it is from early 2022 so maybe things have changed a bit. Enjoy the Outdoors and Stay Safe! Cheers, Gijs
Ok that could be! Stay safe too. I will buy this sleeping pad btw. And I also plan to buy the Exped Lyra 2 tent. Which 2 person tents would you recommend, color should be green, grey or brown and around 2 kg 😊
If you are looking for that kind of tent, you have so many options like the Big Anges Blacktail 2 or a MSR Elixer 2 or Freelite 2. It also depends a bit where you live. Where are you from?
The size... It bugged me through the weekend so I looked at my notes again and the packaging. The pouch tells me M and... 52 cm... So where did I go wrong? Ik measured the pad and my notes say 53 cm. I measured again this morning: 53 cm. Somewhere in writing I took the number from Exped and forgot to put mine in. Also in the script for the video I used the 65 and not my measured notes. A stupid mistake but it proves the I am human and not AI ;-).
@@OutdoorguruGearReviews I'm from Switzerland, not so far from you ;) On my list is the Blacktail 2 (not sure if 1500mm for fly and floor is enough, 250 Swiss Francs), the Naturehike Cloud Peak 2 (cheap, 140 Swiss Francs) or the Exped Lyra 2 (best Quality? 400 Swiss Francs). It's so hard to decide. Would like to also try to sleep in Winter, around minus 5 celsius. Thanks for your help!
A good review. :-) But: why didn't you really test it in a realistic way in that fridge of -20? To cold, to much trouble for sure. A night sleeping is something totally different than 1 hour. ;-) That part I liked the best of this review and is really interesting and above other reviews if you make it for a real night sleeping. Must be rewarding by the crowed reading your excellent reviews. :-) And... the repair set: how does it work, don't you need glue? That part is a miss, perhaps you can do that one separate on more mattresses. Because all nice but on a longer trip when it fails ... that is a genuine fear of most with these matresses. Greetings , Onno Nugteren. :-)
Hi Onno, Thank for you kind comment😊 and nice to have you here again! I have been * 'sleeping'* quite a lot at very cold temperatures and I would have loved to do that again. But just for a mattress test hopping over to the North or the Alpes was not possible (nor sustainable). Staying in the feeezer also not because of companies safety regulations. I was grateful for what was possible. The remark on the repair set.... good one. Somebody else asked the same and if the glue would work at -20.... So yes, I'll ask Exped to send me some spare stuff and try to do that video. Enjoy the Outdoors and Stay Safe! Cheers, Gijs
Staying in the feeezer also not because of companies safety regulations.: Of course that's true. @@OutdoorguruGearReviews The remark on the repair set.... good one 🙂 Of course.
I wonder how Exped R8 sleeping pad would look like in thermal camera in same themperature? ALSO, would be nice to know IF the included repair kit works at such themperatures, if something happens with pad. Before covid I used to camp in Finnish "lavu" during my winter ice fishing trips to Finland. Was expierenced -26 during the night. My system was to use an army sleeping pad under inflatable pad, because of warmth loss from under. Therefore I wonder if R8 valued exped would solve this issue.🫡🙃

Great idea to test it in a freezer😂.
