  • The Flextail Tiny Pump 2X is a battery-operated pump for inflating sleeping mats and it has some neat tricks up its sleeve. But... Is it better than a pump bag? Enjoy the review!

Another great review Gijs. When I see wild-camping videos with people using Flextail pumps, I always wonder if they've also brought the pump sack just in case the electronic gadget fails - I carry a 2nd pump sack as a back-up pump (and use it as a dry-sack).

Thanks Gijs, I learned a few new things with this detailed look. I for one would prefer a quieter version even if it pumps a little slower, I mean if you brush your teeth you've already got a couple more minutes to spare before jumping into bed!

Hi Andrew, Thanks for sharing your thoughts! I saw on the Flextail website that they now do a even smaller one with less noise too. Maybe..... Enjoy the Outdoors and Stay Safe! Cheers, Gijs

@@OutdoorguruGearReviews I'd heard about their smaller 'Zero Pump' (still pre-production I believe) but I hadn't looked into the sound levels - thanks for the pointer. A couple of reviews I've found shows around a 10dB reduction compared with the 2X, which is significant. And a bigger dealmaker for me is that apparently the 2X cannot be used hands-free with many pads, which defeats the object for me vs a pump sack.

Oh... loose hands. No almost impossible because of valve placement. Didn't think of that as a issue since I hold the pump bag too. But... good remark for the next one. Cheers, Gijs

@@OutdoorguruGearReviews I meant that, IMHO, hands-free usage is the main advantage of an electric pump over a pump sack. But not to worry, you already covered plenty in your ace review!

    Hey Gijs,
this review was again very intersting.
I also thought about the Flextail Tiny Pump for some time. But the noise just puts me off too. I still use my Therm-a-Rest pump bag and if I need light, I use a headlamp with an additional red light function. So in the end I came to the same conclusion as you.
Since my Therm-a-Rest is equipped with two valves (TwinLock), the air is released very quickly and the rest escapes when rolled up. For me, this pump is a solution to a problem that doesn't actually exist.

I respectfully disagree with some users here calling this gadget useless or a solution to a problem that doesn't exist. Using a pump bag on an XL Xtherm whilst confined to a small tent in freezing rain and wind can be quite difficult. Connecting this wee gadget to the mat allows comfortable and convenient inflation in such conditions.
    Thanks Gijs!

:-) What a wast of time looking at this totally useless gadget. Hello Gijs, yes you'll always get an honest review of your reviews. 🙂 So if you know in advance that a gadget isn't worth it.... don't review it than. Greetings, Onno Nugteren.

Come on, this review will help many people decide for/against a popular product - and it wouldn't be so popular if it were utterly useless.

Hi Onno, That is good comment and I value always your honesty, but still... I was curious. What if it only made 40 dB... A lot of other more family/teenage/youngster/festival camping type campers would love this pump. And my channel might make a nice introduction to our way of being outdoors. Spread the love ♥. Cherio! Enjoy the Outdoors and Stay Safe! Cheers, Gijs

Camping is getting out indeed with as little as possible and connect to naturre as a big charm. :-) You saw and gave all ready all the negatives in your review: they are valid to me too. Greetings again and I think you very well know what I mend. ;-) By the way: I still use my longs. 🙂@@OutdoorguruGearReviews
