Correction: At first I thought it was the front chainring locking up but the video shows he was still in the big ring. Top of the chain was bouncing like crazy when his left foot went down. Looks like the chain slipped the cassette, locked up, his feet reversed direction (you can see his feet were past vertical, then went backwards which caused the top chain to drop to the bottom chain and the rear derailleur to move all the way forward, try it, hold your cassette and reverse the pedals) and his forward momentum just pulled the bike over.
i had a similar crash just a few month ago and thats pretty much what happened. a bit too much fun and power, chain skipped, this immediately makes you lose balance as you're pushing with all your might into it - by the time its back on you're kissing the road :) (it sucked). This can also happen the opposite way where the chain just skip but doesnt catch, its still enough to mess your balance if you're going all in at that very moment.
Wow! That looked like a classic high-side on a motorcycle. He was leaning the bike back and forth and gave a good amount of torque with the wheels out of line. Almost admirable to produce that much power! Hope he’s okay!
Yep, watched it a couple times frame-by-frame (and done a bit of racing myself) and my thought was he just got too exuberant and maybe out of sync with his side to side throw. And then got "out over skis too far", as my ski jumping friends might say.
Seems to be the chain coming off of the smallest cog and jammed in between the cassette and chain stay. Rider might be shifting while the chain is under full load. Not sure whether the oversized pulley or gearing index issue played any role in this. I guess the lesson is shift before you sprint full gas.
Played the tape in slow-mo a few times, chain never fell off the big ring, and rear hanger didn't snap either. The most likely cause is the chain got jammed at the rear.
@@35goaltender Doesn't make sense at 0:03. Look at his right calf, he is putting tons of force into it but crank is not moving. Hub failure of some sorts maybe, but not disengaged definitely.
@@happykanye at .25 speed at the 0:03 mark he is just finishing his left leg power stroke. As you look at the chain at that moment there is no chain tension upon which to apply power with the right leg. His body position and balance depend on that chain tension to continue stay in equilibrium. All of his weight is on the left side of the bike, with nothing to work against. Hence, OTB.

Wtf this is like a computer game physics glitch.

He held onto the bike during the crash, thats pretty impressive.
sprinting for 20th
Geezer gotta Geez.
It looks like drivetrain issues that causing this crash.
no, the guy who wrote the code for the video game....this is a fake video/
Beautiful high side. Reminds me of marc Marquez #93.
Keep it straight.

Dang! I’ve been trying to do that for years and he nails it perfectly… shaming my inability to perform this acrobatic trick!
Thinking about racing. I can ride, but how about others?
Wow… I’m glad he didn’t take you down and he’s okay
Its crazy to see a saddle come off the rails!
Something happened with his chain. He did everything right. Held onto the bike and landed on his back. He minimized the damage for sure.
gdamn, that was brutal
I hate it when that happens. 🤕🤕🤕

chain does not jump off when shifting unless it is not tunes right.
Hub disengaged. Top of chain suddenly has no tension. Flopping in the wind.

Wow! Not saying envious, but I’d never have enough power to cause a high-side flip with a bicycle. Mine’s rather a swift-walker.
he lean too much the handlebars?

You’re not supposed to use “go big or go home” on the road bike.

Bad form and steep headtube?
Man how did he solo crash like that????? Looks like knee hit the bars???
Highside motorcycle style crash
chain got stuck, that's why he stops pedaling
Sucks to be old.
Huh.
This is the problem with disc brakes
Nope, the problem is with rim brakes.
that was hilarious.
That's about the worst bike handling I've seen, master by age, obviously not experience. Learn how to sprint in a straight line, Fred.
dude, the chain got stuck. it's pretty obvious if you watch how he just stops pedalling
Scooby Doo, you have no idea what you're talking about! Best stay on your couch.
