This Russian lady is one who is curious about us 🤷‍♂️ she…just wants to meet black people. Now, she could definitely come meet us 😂but it’s the same with certain Mexico cities. They are filled with Afro-Mexicans- that’s not the proper name though, not many black and white Americans even know of these people, cultures etc. same with The Garífunas in Central America. A great example are the Gullah/Geechees of SC, not many Americans know of them but they’re right here 😊 Travel the world but use common sense and be vigilant.

@mustbe. I am Burundian (East Africa) and I went to Friendship University in Moscow (1971-1977). I visited Leningrad/Saint Petersburg, and every summer our whole class of 13-15 students was spending about two months in different parts of USSR for field training (in geology) (and I was the only African). For my thesis I went alone to a mining town in Northern Ossetia (Caucasus Mountains) and I was there for about two months and I didn't have any problems.
But back then, when you were with/dating a Russian girl, people could assault you if you ride the bus (usually very crowed). The subway/metro was ok, but it was preferable to take a taxi. But I know some Burundians, Rwandans and Tanzanians who married Russian women.
Now I live in the United States and the experience is different (in USA, Blacks fought for their rights).
My experience in Russia was good, I didn't have any major problems.
Russians do use the N word (nyegr).
I think that the Ivorian and the Nigerian student music bands that played on some weekends made Africans popular (it was believed that the French-speaking Ivorians got their instruments from Paris and the other from London, so that alone fueled some rivalry/excitement).

As an African, I don't see anything wrong with what she said. There's nothing wrong with the word exotic. Here in Africa, people also view white people as exotic when they see them for the first time. You'll have kids wanting to greet, take pictures and even touch white people's skin. It's all out of curiosity really because these people seem different. I believe that's how the rural Russians might react as well. Besides, some africans in the diaspora claim to experience more racism in countries like USA that have large black population compared to eastern European countries.

Apparently, white people as a concept was invented in colonial Maryland and Virginia back in 1681 according to Prof Dr. Josephine Battalora (see CZcams lectures) to establish the caste system of white supremacy. Prior to that people were known by their region, religion, culture, language, etc. For instance, Irish, French, Spanish, Russian, etc. weren't considered the same. Neither was there black but rather various nations.
