I remember when i saw this scene for the first time and as i was watching the laser carve through the crowd, i could feel my heartbeat getting stronger and quicker in my chest. I've always been put off by this scene. Not because of the gore. But because... he COULD just do that if he wanted to. Theres nothing by societal pressure and narcissism holding him back from genociding the human race and I felt something like second hand helplessness. Really unpleasant.

After the final battle in season 2 honelander seemed a lot weaker to me, especially because we know his son can hurt him. The top-down shot of Homelander destroying the crowd with his heat vision is so well made, because you can see the further out it is, the more parallel to the ground it becomes, meaning more people get lasered the further out the laser goes. They showed the crowd in the middle getting lasered as well. Just thought that was awesome attention to detail.

It's not necessarily one where he's reveling in that thought, it looks like the kind of face where he's scared of what he just imagined that he was capable of doing. I remember watching this scene and for a second being in shock thinking he really did this. Fantastic writing as it shows his real descent into madness and how it’s perfectly realistic that at any point in time he could do this and nobody could stop him from wiping out the crowd.

@@alaster1403 I mean, Homelander is how he is because of how he was "raised" in a laboratory by callous scientists trying to maximize his potential as a product.
He could've been a proper hero if he was raised by anybody even remotely normal. Granted, this is a world where all heroes are made and then controlled by a multimedia conglomerate.
Give him the same upbringing as Clark Kent or Peter Parker and John could've been what Homelander pretends to be.
Fun fact: The first person to shout "You don't speak for us" is the same guy stormfront throws out of a window in episode 2x3
