3:15 the best little touch here is Homelander taking his feet off the desk. It’s at the moment he realizes he’s not the one in charge here. Even though he tries to act tough and threatening a second later, he already revealed he’s intimidated by Stan’s authority
That's a great catch, but I'm going to nitpick:
Homelander knows he's lost during the little speech Gus makes as he approaches. By the time he reveals that he knows Homelander leaked the formula and says, 'manchild that you are...' that short, contemptuous glance at Homelander's feet- right there. It's great because his reaction is to fumble and remove his feet.
Like I said, it's a tiny thing, but I'm weird.

THIS is HOW you do a menacing villain. No screams, no shouts, just a calm demeanor with a firm tone of voice explaining to the "hero" that he's just a pretender.
Yes, that,s why i prefer for example Jared Harris as Moriarty than BBC version with Andrew Scott- his shouting and babbling really was dull and iritating, Harris was more menacing, especially when he was torturing Sherlock Holmes while singing a song about trout, or telling Sherlock he will send regards to Watson and Mary.

One of my favorite scenes of the series. Two absolutely GENIUS actors in character. The way Esposito played Stan in that one moment, pausing before stopping. Capturing how much of a literal genius/prodigy (and sociopath) Stan Edgar was that he was running through a million different machinations before deciding the correct way HE WANTED to crush Homeland's entire perception of the company and his place, while simultaneously capturing a brief probe into 'what side' Homelander was on with Stormfront and what, if anything, he knew about her. Just genius!
Stan really is one of my favorite characters on the show. I like that he isn’t overused but when he does show up he is amazing.

I like the way Giancarlo pronounces “Confidential” as if he could not stress it enough that it’s supposed to be kept a secret.
Which Homelander put in jeopardy by spreading Compound V around the world. Homelander screwed up and Edgar knows it, which is one more thing he can hold over Homelander.
I just like how homelander acts like a manchild. These actors deserves an award for their brilliant performances.

One slight detail I like is how at first homelander tries to show that he is in control by putting his feet on the table, but as the conversation goes on and Edgar calls him out on releasing Compound V, he flinches and takes his feet of the table. Showing he lost his edge in the conflict
Giancarlo Esposito is such a phenomenal actor. He's intimidation incarnate. Gus just put Homelander in his place without breaking a sweat. No adrenaline for him to smell. No rapid heart beat.

As someone who likes the Boys Comics (Theme wise), Stillwell is perfectly shown here.

Love how homelander harps about people always lying to him, yet this scene is one of the only times I can think of where people were truly being honest with him, AND IT INFURIATES HIM
Homelander’s values toward honesty are the difference between people being submissive and pretending to be submissive. The idea of someone using honesty to tear him down is way out of his comfort zone.

I like Stan’s deep settled smile throughout this scene. He knows he had homelander the moment he tried to challenge Stan.
When homelander realised that none of his powers could be used to make Stan Edgar be wrong he saw what real power was.
You can tell the exact moment Stan stopped kidding around. When Homelander first walks in, Stan is all smiles and praise. When Homelander threatened to "move on", however, Stan's face could have been carved out of ice.
"I tried being polite and respectful, but if you're going to make threats let me tell you exactly where you stand."

Can we take a moment to appreciate the emphasis on “human” @2:14? Even this early into the lecture, Stan’s already dragging Homelander back down to reality: he started as a human too.

You know what occurred to me with this scene? "Don't you have a premier of 'Techknight Lives' to go to?" Knowledge in and of itself is power. And just that little minute detail of Edgar calling the movie by its title helps that thought process. Homelander is beneath him, but Edgar still knows all he needs to know about Homelander
What a subtle way to show that he's watching his every move and can ruin him in a moment's notice as soon as he becomes more trouble than it's worth.

Homelander may have an indestructible body, but he has an ego as fragile as a Christmas tree ornament. Stan on the other hand is an ordinary man of discipline and internal power.
It’s a fantastic dynamic.
What a position of power from Stan. Love that scene! We can learn a lot from his body language and the way he talks - so relaxed and calm, even when faced with potential problem.
This was the first scene I stumbled upon before ever knowing anything about "The Boys." From there it was history, I found the show and binged it. These two great actors in the same scene, brilliant. I'll admit, Homelander looked very familiar, I started digging fast and was reminded of his awesome role in Banshee; it's literally the human version of Homelander.
The way banshee ended was disappointing

He knows who homelander is on the visceral level. Hes a mentally fragile and emotionally weak person. The super strong superheroe guy he portrays to the world isn't what he sees at all. He sees an immature little boy with super powers who doesn't even know who he is.

With every scene Homelander is in he brings in a cloud of absolute terror; no one ever knowing what he's going to do next. Everyone in the room and audience feels it.
But not here.
The terror just falls flat here, and Homelander knows it.

Stan and Stillwell are the definition of Sigma. Imagine the two meeting.
What I love most is how dismissive he is about heroes as a whole. At the end, when he’s referring to Stormfront he’s almost got a mocking tone. You can hear it again when he mentioned Tek Knight. He genuinely sees them as disposable, which implies Vought is ready to replace any number of them at a moment’s notice with backup supes
He also knows who and what Stormfront really is.
I love Giancarlo. His character cannot be doubted. Sounds smart and is always in a gambit with whoever he’s talking too
I love how homelander walks in with the same passive threats that he uses on everyone else in Vought to grab power, but Edgar doesn’t bite, to the point where homelander had to directly threaten to leave the company to assert power over Edgar. Yet edgar is having none of it, and puts homelander in his place with no direct threats, just showing the position of power he has with full iron, not even backing down to homelander face to face. Very classy power check

I like to imagine because he knows about homelanders amazing hearing and how he uses it to read people, that Stan stood in silence to let homelander hear his heartbeat, to let him know that nothing about homelander, what he is, what he can do and ESPECIALLY what he is saying has any affect on him. And that makes him mighty.

I love how Mr. Edgar basically tells Homelander exactly who Stormfront is on this scene but Homelander still doesn't understand the undertone of the context of the Frederich Vought story.

I love the little detail of Homelander taking a step back at 3:58. Even though he could crush Stan's skull like a balloon, he's the one with the least power in the room.
Homelander is, in the end, nothing but a bully with super powers. When he saw that Stan was not afraid of him, he knew he had no power.
Stan's probably the first person whom Homelander can't intimidate. He has no experience dealing with someone like that. And Homelander didn't only step back, he broke eye contact with Stan. He flinched first.

I love this scene. I love how Stan puts Homelander in his place not by yelling or arguing, because you can't go toe to toe with Homelander's ego and temper tantrums. Instead, Stan neatly throws him off balance with a seemingly out of left field question: "What do you know about Frederick Vought?" HL still tries to be snarky and in control, but it's too late. Stan has already startled him out of his tantrum and egomania to leave him vulnerable enough to accept Stan's words as the boss finally and bluntly informs HL's place in the world and in Vought. Homelander can't pretend that he's bluffing about any of this either, because Stan's heart never moved a beat faster.
He even de-claws HLs: "I only read his Bio 5 times". 😄 "Oh, yiu mean the Chump Version??
Stan Edgar Is Just Another Variant Of Gus Fring!
Hughie was seen with Oppenheimer during the test. This proves he’s immortal.
Love the acting at 1:26, you can see him eagerly listening in, hoping to hear Edgar’s heart rate jump at the threat, only to be met with disappointment.
I am not surprised Edgar isn't scared of Homelander, Edgar loves having power over people, especially people who believe they have power themselves. Beyond anything I think Edgar enjoys standing up to Homelander in this scene.

I like to think that at 1:19 Homelander is reading Stan's heartbeat and the reason his expression becomes neutral is because he realizes Stan is unphased by his empty threat.
And combined with that staredown Stan gave Homelander after the threat. There was no emotional response at all on his face to the threat.

What i love about Giancarlo Esposito is the way he acts his menacing roles. He isn’t physically intimidating (no muscular physique), He doesn’t boast a massive intellect (while still having one), He doesn’t shout or yell or use swearwords.
He simply starts off with a regular amount of respectful language and voice tone but when the situation turns, his face turns cold and then he; remains quiet/starts talking/ becomes more confrontational only when necessary.
He truly is a great actor! 👏🏻
He has great roles in successful shows, he's also the villain in the new Far Cry 6 game.

I think Gus Fring is a an omnipresent personality in ever universe. He plays the same character by a different name and back story a lot of the time and I can’t get enough of it.
