Hell, my own mother years ago we were doing pretty bad financially and she took a bunch of different things and put em in a crock pot with different spices and herbs and called it "Surprise". It actually was so damn good that me and my two sisters got her to remember all she did and to this day she will still make it on special occasions. Just a random hodgepodge of things. Funny, life

her cooking reminds me of my first year being married. My wife of 7 years now, when we were first married tried her hand at cooking when I would have a long day at work. Her idea of soups was to mix a bunch of veggies and some canned meat in a crockpot and let it sit on high for 8+ hours. No spices, no broth, just water and the juice that came in the canned veggies. Now she has improved much over the last 7 years. but that head shake and "thumbs up" reminded me so much of my first year of marriage trying so hard not to hurt my wifes feelings

Out of all of Kayâs cooking specials, this one actually doesnât look half bad. Over cooked some stuff and maybe would change certain ingredients like the beans and dogs, but I actually kind of want to make this, cuz potatoes, fish and cooked brats donât sound like a bad combo

As a 38 who is learning how to cook more than simple meals, I need this and Kitchen Nightmares. I look at my overcooked noodles or burnt chicken and think "it's all good."

Some 40 years ago, during an economic downturn, my mom put together some 'struggle meals' that were actually pretty good. Like making a gravy of hamburger, Campbell's 'Golden Muschoom' soup, and carmelized onions, the layering it between mashed potatoes, dusting the top with parmesan, and the putting it in the oven until the top was brown and crusty. It was actually really good! I made it just yesterday, and my brother-in-law was like 'This is amazing! And addictive!' Yeah, I really have to restrain myself,because I'm eat the whole thing without realizing it...
The other one (and Kay's creation here reminded me of it) was a bed of white rice, on which Mom would put kidney beans, some chopped onions, and a dollop of mayonnaise. it sounds link of weird, but I really like it. I made it now and then when I was a broke single mom at university, and I still make it for myself. My roommate says it's gross but she won't try it, so there ya go. My kids won't eat it. Oldest says that yeah, it was actually kind of tasty and was nutritious, etc, but 'tastes of poverty' to her. Ok, I can grok that. I still like it. It's tasty.
The one I WON'T do though was a disaster my mom made. Tater tots, canned tuna, and peanut butter. She used some really awful, cut-rate tuna that we found later was intended for cats. However, the casserole was SO BAD, none of us could eat it. Including our cats.
Kay's cooking really has the 'struggle meals' vibe, and I wonder about her economic situation....

I grew up on hamburger gravy over mashed potatoes and it was and still is one of my favorite meals! Eat with a side of corn and make your bites with all 3. Mmm mmm GOOD!

When she started spraying the spray oil on what looked like a non-stick pan I was screaming inside. You do NOT use spray oil on a non-stick surface as the fine residue will burn on to the surface affecting the non-stick performance and food release.
@@Kiriali There are other ways that the nonstick properties can be damaged for example water directly onto the hot nonstick can damage it a lot. Using metal utensils on the nonstick surface can damage it as well. Not using any oil on a nonstick isnât a good idea either. Did that once when I was a young teenager lol. And also just age in general. You use a product enough, itâs not gonna last forever.
I didn't know that, I don't use spray oil but if I do in future I won't use it on my non stick pan

Trust me, this woman is an anomaly. We brits might not eat loads of spicy foods in general but we do have a very diverse food culture and in general tend to eat quite good food. Yeah, some shit is still so dull and outdated but only old people eat shit like dickie pudding and plain ass boiled potatoes. But for some people, yeah you're right

I think some of what we find unappetizing is a bit of cultural divide, whether weâre looking from overseas or across class lines. But if this is 100% genuine, a lot of this is likely a reflection of what she grew up eating and how she learned to cook in the 70s/80s.
Over all, this might actually be the most edible thing I've seen kay make. Not saying much but if I was hungry (or really high) I would smash this

I've never hear of anyone cooking fish fingers in a frying pan but you do you Kay!
Used to do that since I didn't have a deep fryer, it's pretty good if prepared normally

its seems to essentially be kid breakfast/lunch items (beans, fish fingers, mini sausages, onion, potato) cooked together as if that will somehow make a cohesive pie. those things are fine just...on a plate...cooked differently.
