    Downloaded the steam link app on my smart tv last night and got steam going! Super excited! I noticed while playing some lag and connection/buffering issues appearing in the bottom right hand corner from time to time. This morning watched this video and tweaked some things. Hoping this makes it smoother and more enjoyable! Thanks for this video!

    Awesome video Mike! I’ve been testing steamlink the last few days to prep for a move in a few months where I’d have my PC downstairs and my target TV upstairs so I’m using a raspberry pi and I was thinking of getting a mesh router for both floors so I can wire up the Pi and my main rig to both nodes that can hopefully communicate over the mesh routers WiFi 6 (not ideal I know but I figured neither of those devices support WiFi 6 so I thought this was a decent workaround to get WiFi 6 speeds)
    What do you think? Think it would be decent quality?

    When i tell it to change the desktop resolution to match the streaming device (in this case the steam deck) it sets it to 960x540 instead of 1280x800. If i turn that off, then i get a bunch of options in the game to set to resolution to, but none of them are 1280x800 even though its added as a custom resolution in the nvidia control panel settings.

    Hey Mike, thanks for this full in depth guide. But I have a question regarding my situation which is quite unique. My gaming PC which has a AMD Ryzen 7 7700X 4500. 32gbram DDR5 ram. MSI 8GB D6 RTX 4060 Ti Ventus 2 connected to my monitor which is capapble of running my 4k 144hz Nvidea Gsync monitor with optional VRR support connected with hdmi 2.1 for VRR trough G sync with a full 1gbit ethernet connection to the pc. I want to use my pc to stream steam games to my Apple TV 4k 3rd gen which can run at a max of 60fps at 4k at full RGB or YCBCR 4:4:4. At SDR or HDR and Dolby Vision. The apple tv id connnected to has the same 1gbit ethernet connection trough Lan. What I wanna do is. Use the steam link app on my apple TV connected to the monitor I usually use for my gaming PC itself. I also have a new 4k Sony Bravia TV also capable of running 144hz and VRR and if connected to my pc directly it should not bottle neck the stream specwise I think. But in my case I want my pc to be the host of the stream. And send it to my apple TV which is limited at 60fps 4k on HDR and Dolby Vision as normaly SDR.
    So here comes my question:
    What is better for me?
    Connect the apple TV to my sony bravia and where both devices have also a Dolby Vision availiablity at 60fps at 4k. And use that as the reciever of my gaming pc with the steam link as host which has a monitor connected with the same specs as my TV if not even better. Or do it the other way around. Plugging my PC via Hdmi 2.1 to my TV and use that as host for my Stream. And then use my apple TV which I then can Use with my orginal gaming Pc monitor to recieve te stream from my pc connected to my Sony Bravia TV.
    I am freshly new to this and all my displaying gear is bought on PS5 compatiablity. But because PC Mastersce I ditched the PS5 for a better PC. But sometimes I just wanna lay in bed or on the couch and game my steam games instead of sitting behind my desk. Is there any tips you’re willing and be aible to give me on this. m
    So PC to TV as Host for the apple Tv Connected trough a Monitor with the same specs which wont bottleneck if im right. Or the other way around. PC to my monitor and then use the TV as a reciever via the apple TV. Which also gives me an extra oppurtinuty to use my sound system via EArc trough the TV. So I’m kinda stuck here what is best for the lazy on the couch game mood. I have the gear. But not the knowledge. Hope you can help. Kind regards
    Sjoerd Henderickx :)

    If you play at home you don't need to limit the bandwith, it should be able to handle 1GB connection over cable, if your wifi router is from atleast 4 years old it should also be able to handle the same speeds over Wifi 6
    IF you remote play from home on a bad internet you want to limit the speed to fairly low, mainly to avoid stuttering lag and Delays where the game freezes or bugs out. it allows for a more seamless gameplay.

    • @MikeTheTech
      @MikeTheTech  Před rokem

      Not just about bandwidth, but quality as well. It’s much harder for a computer to maintain a 50MB/s data stream over a 10MB/s data stream. Meaning even with a great connection, latency and lag will come from frame timing and the GPU trying to keep up. For both the host and client. If you keep the bitrate low though, it won’t hit the bandwidth cap either way.

    • @marcuspvxea
      @marcuspvxea Před rokem

      @@MikeTheTech You can't edit the bitrate, and the bit rate just handles the amount of pixels it can decipher, and that won't cause lag, it will just make the screen very blurry
      I'm playing remotely with no lag, the only noticeable issue have been
      Unless you have 12 year old Ethernet cables you will be capable of at least 250 MB data if you use Cat 5, Cat6 cables can handle 1GB/s, most routers should output 650 MB/s with Firewall and AV protection locally with no problem. The problem comes with Wifi 5 because tehy can't output that high of speed, but Wifi 6 can, but even then it should prove no issue.
      With those speeds you should be able to play remotely with no input lag or delay
      It's not really about hitting the Bandwith cap because you wont hit it unless the hardware is old, very old. You should be able to play Locally with no issues.
      I'm being able to play with no issues on a 20MB/s remotely capping at 3.5MB/s bandwidth
      Also over LAN/Local you should not have any data stream delays unless you have a poor optimisation or connect remotely through a VPN or Gateway that re-route your traffic..

      Yup. Lag might be an issue, depending on the type of game, so you’ll need to have super fast internet or use lower res/fps settings, but it will work.

      Try updating both video drivers or disabling hardware acceleration. The computers might not support it.

    35 seconds in, just subscribed. Dunno if this is usefull or not. I reckon it is, having skimmed, some of the comments. But the facts presented that 98 - 99% of people who'll watch this, maybe even benefit from it. Dus is the point of the video, to improve your experience. I think we owe the creator, this much atleast.
    Gonna watch the rest of video now, hopefully it'll improve my experience with remote play. Thank you, for taking your time to create this video, and help out fellow gamers. 🙏☀️

    the most important is to use wifi 6 router not 5 for better connection bandwidth...

    • @MikeTheTech
      @MikeTheTech  Před 2 lety

      Not just the router, you’d need compatible hardware on each device as well as a nearly perfect unobstructed view to avoid latency, but the speed would definitely be there.

    What's the point of streaming the game if you need an ethernet cable?

    • @MikeTheTech
      @MikeTheTech  Před 3 měsíci

      Playing high end games from your gaming PC on every other PC in the house (or outside the house)? You don't need an Ethernet cable, but your experience won't be as good.

      @@MikeTheTech If if you have a machine that can run the game why not play on that machine? And if you're going to run an ethernet cable why not just run an HDMI cable and skip the whole streaming part?

    • @MikeTheTech
      @MikeTheTech  Před 3 měsíci

      Can’t run an hdmi cable to your phone. Can’t run an hdmi cable past like 40-50ft without expensive signal boosters. Maybe you’re just not the target audience?
