Minor note, you actually don't have to be on the same network as the PC. I go over to my brother's all the time, and I stream my PC to my phone every time
How do you do that?
@@aguythatlikesrice8075 just like if you were to play on same network. once you start the game on pc you can send a link to people you want to join the game all over the world.
Thanks btw I’m gonna use this for that exact same purpose 😂
@@aaditya9525 Sure thing! It can be a little bit unreliable at times, but there's a setting you can change on your desktop to make it better.
It's called "Use NVFBC capture on Nvidia GPU”, and it should be off. This should show up no matter what GPU you have. Good luck!
facts i be at work playing My games from Steam & then go home w/ it.
ETA Prime is an absolute animal in terms of daily, sometimes even more-than-daily, production of content. I figure he's got a bandaid on his thumb because of a blister from constant gaming... Careful EP, you'll end up with a repetitive stress injury! Get yourself insured...
Not to mention, Carpel tunnel?!?!
ETA is beast mode 24/7 🔥 He should have 5M+ subs
@@chromerims Agreed 100%!!!
It's true.He don't sleep. Bro take care of yourself first.
I watch to many eta prime videos I guess to much youtube in general. He gets cuts on his hands from working on cars 🚗 which to me is insane cause how is he working on cars and making all these videos
I am glad the video is back up. I was watching it earlier when it became private in the middle of the video.
I've been using Steam Link in various forms for a long time. Over Wi-Fi you should expect dips in quality once in a while, perhaps once an hour. Audio will stutter and visuals will get pixelated. After a few seconds it will be smooth again. Also, the input lag is not insignificant, which is useful if you're bad at a game and need something to blame. ;)
I find even if you only have a 60hz screen. Setting it up to stream 120 massively helps with input lag.
does steam link only work if both devices are on the same network ? like can i connect to my pc if the steam deck is on a different network elsewhere ?
@@MrGuyOnTheFly They do have to be on the same LAN, yes, but this is less a technical limitation, but a business one. After all, the same tech is used by Steam for the "Remote Play Together" feature. I think they just don't want people to create their own mini cloud streaming service using Steam. ;)
@@MrGuyOnTheFly naah i have my computer by cable on a 1giga network and as long as i have 100 mbs i can play freely on my phone
@@EmblemParade no you can play from anywhere in the world with remote play together.
Something worth noting. When you stream, you will change settings on your main pc too. If you have HDR monitor your colours will look washed out, turn off and hey presto.
Would be good to have separate game video settings for each device ie steam deck vs 4k pc setup
I had been thinking of getting a telescopic controller. Although with the money it would cost, I'd probably rather spend a bit more more towards getting something integrated/dedicated like a Odin (I think that runs Android and Steam Link doesn't it?). When I've used Steam Link on my phone before, I felt that any overheating issues and battery life drain isn't really ideal for a device I'm glued to for phone use. So a seperate device gaming would be better.
Excellent content, i would give a test run later on and hope the best! Thanks for everything
I was watching the last upload, now to keep watching the rest of the video. Cheers.
😂, had an issue with the audio mid way
love eta prime steam deck content ❤️❤️❤️
Not sure why nobody is talking about this Methodology. It works flawlessly! I've left several larger games on the main system and just streamed them using Steam's service. Moonlight works yes, but its finicky at times and using a perfectly functional service already with the game library you have (with importing non-steam games so easily) it makes sense to just use it. Moonlight after exiting a game will take time when killing the process so you see the desktop and it doesn't seemsely exit the session. Steam uses a similar approach, its just way more streamlined (Steamlined?).
I can even take this a step further, and just dock my deck, and use one of my phones with the kishi and use steam link to connect it to the deck's library. Such a cool method. Thanks for covering this underdiscussed jewel.
Love your videos man!!!
Somewhat related - Microsoft has released instructions on how to setup xCloud on your Steam Deck in such a way that it plays nice with SteamOS. Maybe this would interest you for a future video
Or with GeForce Now.
@@antoniousai1989 Yep love GFN too. It and xCloud are the only good streaming services IMO
Just wish devs/publishers weren't so greedy about licensing. What is wrong with me renting a VM from Nvidia to play PC games I ALREADY BOUGHT?!?! It's like they are trying to dictate which PCs I'm allowed to run my games on, which is really overreach by devs/publishers.
@@kirby0louise in my country there's gigabyte internet at 15 euro per month. There's no point for me to buy an insanely expensive machine when I can play any game I want with 30 euro expenses per month, especially since I use Steam and I buy the games themselves only at a discount. It's unreal how greedy people are getting with exclusives. I'm not gonna buy games on EPIC or other trash launchers, it doesn't matter if it is the game of the year, these idiots don't get it.
@@antoniousai1989 15 Euros a WEEK? Even for 10Gb (or did you mean gigabit, not gigabyte?) internet that's steep, to the tune of nearly 800 Euros a year. And I thought internet here in the US was expensive!
@@kirby0louise 15 per week is only 60 per month. That's not bad at all.
I got the backbone for ios awhile back its awesome. I have a zfold 2 that im gonna get the backbone for as well. super nice ! i was lucky enough to get a SD but love these phone controllers
Moonlight is by far the superior game streaming protocol/software.
That reminds me, I'm having this odd problem where I can only pair one single device at a time - if I try pairing another (say, my Android TV on my living room) the old pairing is removed and I need to enter the PIN again. Is this normal behavior? Is there a way to force Steam to keep the old pairings?
When you say stream play, does the laptop or desktop open the game to mirror on the phone or it only opens stream link on the device you are using to play.
This is a great video, but i would also like to see a moonlight tutorial(on the deck). Since its probably going to have lower latency then steam link :)
I have usually had trouble with streaming in general. I think its the router via the Xfinity router. I do think it is or should be recommended to have a better router than what Xfinity provides. Though I do have a thought. Because it is being used in the house only. What about using the PC's Wifi for internet and the 3rd party router that is fast enough for streaming. That way there also is no need for long ethernet cables throughout the house depending on where your PC is.
I respect the f out of ETA! Such a cool guy. Daily uploads, amazingly detailed reviews. I’m hooked
He follows the same scripts and plays the same games for everything he tests and half the time he sounds bored like he does in this video.
@@ransacked How you gonna hate on a professional?
@@ransacked I'm not going to get into an argument over someone I don't really know with a total stranger on the internet. I just like his videos, and the amount of work he puts into them. Following a script or testing the same games over and over again for consistency does sound boring, I don't really get why he cares so much about testing the emulators, but I imagine that there are people out there caring about that stuff too. So, yeah. Keep up the good work ETA Prime. Hope you would delve into this Samsung DEX stuff more in the future, if they decide to actually update and improve it. Cheers
If you have an nvidia card, in my experience using the shield game stream(geforce experience) and moonlight on the client side works a lot better than steam link.
I love using these programs just for remote desktop usage also
Can u use moonlight and geforce on the go? Remote Desktop and play on the go(train) use wifi hotspot shared by iphone?
You have to be on the same network or can you access from anywhere in the world?
HEY THANKS!
Was like man wish they had a good streaming device so I can be in room with my kids. Turns out my phone works lol. Thanks again
great vid! I'm looking at the Kishi device to use with steam link/gamepass. I have a samsung S10+ as well as the S22 Ultra. New gamevice listed mentioned being able to support the larger phones?
I managed to get a Razer Kishi like the one you used, on the cheap in an outlet store, specifically to play with Steam Link. My phone has this nasty tendency of adding periodic lag spikes when I have both Bluetooth and WiFi on, so a wireless phone controller was unfortunately a no-go.
Try getting a dedicated router just for game streaming, I also got spikes and pauses even when using an expensive wifi 6 router, its usually traffic from other devices causing these interrupts, Ive been game streaming since the nVidia Shield was released so pretty experienced with it, if you get a dedicated wifi 6 router, there will be almost zero input lag.
When doing in home streaming I keep my controllers connected straight to my PC. Bluetooth has pretty good range and this gives me lowest possible lag.
@@mechanicalmonk2020 This works really well with the MS PC USB stick, range is even better than Bluetooth, and you can stream audio to the controller headphone jack as well.
Hi there thanks for this video have you tried this with Windows 10 Installed I can get steam link to recognise the deck and when it does the Picture on the tv goes blurry and the steam deck screen goes black thanks if you can help.
ETA Prime, I'd love to see a video comparing this to Parsec game streaming! It should allow streaming outside of your home network.
What about the incompatible deck games. Can you still use properly the controls?
Great alternative for those into streaming
Is there any kind of dongle that could generate a local wifi network to connect to and stream from? I think my router is very bad for this and need to explore alternatives.
How did ETA get such a wide screen playback on his iPhone 13 Pro Max? My 14 pro max only fills like half the screen on steam link remote play from my laptop.
When I see a new eta video I click …..simple
My friend streams from my pc. He's never complained. I don't think the latency is a concern for most gamers. Anyone I live with, I let them stream games off my pc since I rarely play and they've never complained or thought it was different than normal play, except a few minor hiccups
if i want the best imagine quality for streaming my steam games , is the deck the best? my concern is blocky compression artifacts. i have a 4090 and 1k fiber ethernet
Fair warning, Steam Link might not work properly for you. I have found that game streaming applications are kinda particular. Steam Link works great for my cousin, but is practically useless for me. But Moonlight and Parsec work great for me, while those don’t work that well for him. I recommend trying out all three and finding the one that gives you the best performance
Edit: Forgot to mention, I recommend installing Parsec either way. When installing it, make sure that you check the option making it available to all users. This ensures that it starts on boot, even before login. Super useful for any potential troubleshooting when you run your PC headlessly.
I’ve always have issues with moonlight. Im guessing its a router issue
I was going to say something similar. Parsec is the only one that worked for me! :)
Moonlight uses Nvidia GPU encoding so that may be the problem. Personally it's been absolutely fantastic for me
Rainwat is also good but latency issue
I did many tests and both works fine for me but moonlight has an advantage of 2 frames against steam.
I want to know things like play time on the Steamdeck for battery life and stuff like that. Battery life for remote play vs using XCloud? I cant find this info anywhere and Logi has a pure streaming device. So is it worth spending a little more to use the Steamdeck? Does it do a better job then Logi or worse in that area? Thanks for your videos.
if you have nvidia card you can use moonlight , better use ethernet plus wifi at same time... good video!
I can remote play from work! It actually works pretty well.
My Windows laptop only has 5GB free. After deleting files and optimising my drives the most I can get to is 10GB free space. Would that affect the performance (& temperature) of my laptop? Or better just get an Xbox console? Or use an Android (or iOS) tablet to play my Steam games?
A few months back I found out about this and was considering canceling my steam deck reservation in favor of streaming to my tablet. But I have an ultrawide monitor and any game that supported that aspect ratio wouldn't display correctly unless I went back to my pc and changed the settings. Couldn't do it on the tablet because everything was zoomed in. This was annoying enough to convince me to keep the steam deck reservation.
Glad I did because it runs everything I play (mostly jrpgs/tactical games) maxed out at 60fps.
What router do you have? Is it mesh networking capable?
Could you stream 4k 60fps from your pc to your steam deck while docked for playing on a tv?
An excellent video 👍
Don’t know if you’ll see this but I have 2 questions:
Do you notice a massive increase in battery playing over streaming as opposed to natively?
Also you set the resolution limit to 720p, is there any advantage to going higher? I know the steam deck screen is 800p but would we get better image quality by sending a 1440p image and downscaling or is it just worth it to limit to 720p
It will use a little more battery than just being on. The higher resolution will increase bandwidth consumption, so may increase lag depending on your network. So 720p limit is good for most small screens because 1080p isnt noticeably different than 720p on a small screen, but streams better at lower resolution. Even 480p is good if on a phone screen.
I think the battery life will increase since its just streaming. it's like watching a CZcams video. so, the deck won't be working as hard since its only streaming. but there will be latency ig since it's being hosted and over a wireless connection too
@@pinktuna3693 batt life will be better compared to native gaming but its also uploading data to sync your input. Def drains more batt than reg video streaming
Ive been doing this for many years, but using Moonlight, I also have a dedicated Unifi Wifi 6 Router for game-streaming both to my phone and to my Oculus Quest 2, the input lag is not noticeable these days with Wifi 6, also do this to my Apple TV's using Moonlight.
What if you play on the deck's docking station? Do you need ethernet plugged into that?
I find using moonlight streaming runs with lower latency and less image compression. I can also stream to my my note 20 ultra's native resolution of 3088x1440. With this setup the steam deck would feel like a downgrade.
Great tip, thanks!!
So I'll be able to do this on my coming GPD plus? That will be sick, it will mean I can stream PS3 emulation from computer and play it in handheld! I never knew Steam even had this feature, thanks ETA!
I know your quite busy but will this work with launchbox and if so how to set it up? Lastly I would like this setup on a nvidia shield. Thank you if you respond. A video would be awesome too.
On steam deck I got freezes streaming from my game pc until I unchecked hardware decoding on the steam deck. Really weird as it works on my much lighter SBC devices.
Moonlight and sunshine works quite well too 😊
i hope steam deck coming to my country..
Why does he get the red graph spikes? Red is for decoding, so the steam deck sucks at it? Mine does the same. It says it runs at 60 but you feel these spikes.
How much battery, remote play drains from the Deck?
It took me forever to get audio working. On my desktop I had to change my sound card to "steam streaming audio"?
I like Moonlight. Easy to use
Can you test remote play vs Moonlight on the Steam Deck?
Is this possible on the steam deck with parsec?
Remote play is in my experience not working with 100% of the games
I randomly discovered this feature today when I was trying to start a game on my laptop that was already running on my PC in another room. So I just played a match of warthunder on my laptop with actually good performance, but the latency was a bit annoying.
Later that day I tried that with MW2 and it was actually really playable and the latency was almost non existent.
What resolution did you use stream?
@@markel3353 I didn’t set a resolution
If you create a custom resolution on nvidia control panel equal to your smartphone ie. 2400x1080, it goes 20:9 and you can play on your phone without blackbars, no image stretching or anything, just goes native if the game already supports ultrawide.
thanks for the tip!
@@kadupse It does let you, i do it myself. Open NVCP, go to Change Resolution and there's a "Personalize" button there, click it and create the resolution you want.
I found on Android that sometimes the wifi can cause a lag spike from Location updating in the background. Turning off Location updates before playing helps me a lot.
Great video ETAPrime I'm glad to see how well streaming works on the Deck.
Thanks 🙏👍 good content
Can i mirror steam deck screen to android phone ?
I have redmagic 8 pro with amoled screen and gamepad i would like to take adventge of it
The backbone is amazing I had the kishi for my iPhone the belt brokee it’s cheaply made my backbone controller is coming on Thursday I wish it came today but Amazon said June 9th thet changed it

How do you find it vs say moonlight? Iv never got good performance when using steam link on my phone have had better luck with moonlight
How did you set up 120 FPS gameplay on the iPhone? I haven’t been able to get that to work with my razor Kishi, iPhone 13 Pro Max setup
120hz Starts with iPhone 14 Pro
What's the best SBC for PS2 emulation?
Do we need to left our computer turn on while streaming on other device?
Is there a way to change the resolution to match iPhones resolution?
Great idea! Would be awesome if this was possible with Epic Games. Currently using the Heroic Launcher with the SD, but a streaming option would be fantastic.
If you have a nvidia gpu you can use moonlight, and if you don't mind the extra jankiness you can just use parsec
Add your Epic games to Steam as Non-Steam games and you'll be able to use steam link with those games just like native Steam games!
Worst case scenario: go to the settings button on the upper right corner of Steam Link's remote home screen, then select "Minimize Big Picture", and then from the desktop you can manually open the game you want to play. It may or may not pick your controller though.
You can connect directly to your Windows PC if you have a MIMO wifi adapter. Not only does this reduce latency, but it also means your streaming PC can continue to receive internet via the same wifi adapter and there is no need to have your streaming PC hooked up to the router via ethernet.
The only downside is that it no longer seems possible to have Windows 10/11 automatically enable the wifi hotspot on startup, and you have to stream the desktop to your device via the router in order to turn the hotspot on without physically going to your streaming PC. This means a bit of switching between connecting with the router and the hotspot, but it's well worth it for the smooth result if your router normally gives you problems.
A bit late, but just saw your comment now, I'm curious to try it out (as I can't directly connect to ethernet with my router unfortunately). I'm assuming you've to just turn on WiFi hotspot on Windows settings and connect your phone on that WiFi to make it work
can you do this over a vpn and one of those screenshare devices that allow you control over another pc while you're somewhere else entirely?
The backbone is a must for gamers with an iPhone.
I’m about to get a Deck and I want to play my iOS games I have on my deck
Is it possible to remote play games from my iPhone to my deck?
Does this only work around the house ( ie on the same network)? Or can you do this to remote play from across town?
It works outside your network.
You need to do the setup 1st steps on your local network first.
So it has to be on the same network ? That sucks i thought i can leave my laptop on at home and stream on my phone anywhere.
Will steam streaming work on the Ayn odin or a Aya neo? Thx
Yes
i check the same but how to use othergames or programs outside from steam??
Altered beast is such a nostalgic game.😔
have you messed around much with the 40hz - 40 fps option yet?
How's the battery while just streaming on the steam deck?
I have to say thank you sir. Because of you I finally got my steam connected to my phone. That is with the backbone device through my PC. The one question I have is do I have to leave my PC on if I am playing from another location? Or do I have to have the game that I am playing on my PC to play on my phone. If so or even possible, how do I do that?
Amazing content
You need to set the resolution limit to "Display resolution" to get 1280x800, it'll should work fine that way.
Is it possible for something lower than 720p like 600?
@@markel3353 Sorry, I'm not sure how it'd work at lower resolution exactly but I don't think you get arbitrary options. Perhaps if you force that resolution on the PC side or something, but I don't know how it behaves since I never tried it.
Basically it’s just screen mirroring? You’d still need the PC to fully run the game?
Can you do this while not on the same Wi-Fi? Say maybe another state?
you can remote play with your phone on the go with steam link as well over 5g is best but a strong 4g signal will do
Steam Link can be used outside the house too! I'm streaming games to my phone and smart TVs across continents with a gigabit connection on the host, and it rocks!
Thanks for the tip. Been looking for anecdotes like this across enough users to make sure it's worth the effort before trying it myself
so can you stream your Deck to your phone?
I have tried literally every streaming software out there and I always come back to Steam Remote Play. Latency, connection stability, controller functionality...nothing can beat it. It even works great for simpler games while streaming on WAN. No router reconfig needed like the alternatives.
remote play always sucks dude, u said connection stability its because maybe u have a good connection,
nothing beats to buy ur own console or pc and play games there
Did you try parsec? Personally I like it more.
@@DienerNoUta Ya but no iOS ability. It worked great for PC to PC though. Moonlight too, but all of them eventually had quirky controller issues that I had to constantly fix. Steam just works almost perfectly.
I stream to my Apple TV and use an Xbox controller. Steamlink is awesome🎉
I use the Razer kishi almost every time I travel with my pixel 6 and Xbox game pass. To play destiny 2 I remote play to my to my Xbox series x as bungee removed it from Game pass

Does the game need to be installed on pc for this to work ?
I tried this on my tab s9 plus with a pretty good 5ghz mobile hotspot connection but too much latency issues/lag in controlls. Wasnt worth it for me.
This is a long shot and probably too late but could you try doing a remote play session with both the SteamDeck OLED and Legion Go side by side showing the stream statistics maybe even next to a phone? i find that my iphone display latency jumps up to 35ms, which at times ruins the experience for me. i set up an old PC to my LG G1 OLED tv but find that at times, there is screen noise (like static in dark areas). i would like to see if one or the other has better results because it has better decoding capabilities due to the APU, RAM, display, software/ drivers, WiFi and if there is screen noise in the OLED model. im interested in both but torn between the due to their use cases.
-i have a UDM-Pro and U6 pro access point and everything tests good with latency
I don't have any game on steam, but I have collected many games on epic games, wonder if I could stream those to my Android phone
i thought even after the pairing on steam to steam link you don't have to open the steam on laptop desktop to just leave it then the steam link will have to do it's job
Can you stream from steam on a mac?
I do all that streaming on my iPad when the kids hog up the tv ,love it
