- The shaky head worm is an amazing bait for catching bass. If you know how to use them effectively you can catch big bass too! While most anglers have a few shakey heads, few realize how dialed in you can get with the technique. Today we're diving into worm types, colors, and head designs to make you a much better worm fisherman!
Whether you throw a shaky head every trip, or just occasionally pick up a plastic worm, this video is going to help you hone your fishing skills. Subtle differences make a huge difference in the actions of the worms and how bass react to them. Pay close attention to which head styles Matt uses for which worms, and when he makes changes.
Below you'll find links to the exact baits in the order Matt discusses them, along with the different heads and gear he uses to fish these baits effectively. We've also included our favorite colors and sizes for each worm. All the links go directly to Tackle Warehouse where you can see detailed photos and descriptions of each item.

Been saying this for years, watching the same techniques I've watched a thousand times before, and ill be saying it for years to come : There is nothing better than starting the day with a coffee and some TacticalBassin. Thanks, fellas.
You're so good at talking and illustrating everything, it's really a joy to watch. I appreciate your passion for the sport, makes me want to go fishing every time!
I was just putting together a bag of shaky head plastics yesterday! Yet again Matt and Tim lauch a PERFECTLY TIMED VIDEO for how I'm fishing!!!
I love that every video there is a “get started, go to bait” then we get to go in depth and get specific. Love it love it love it!
When Brian Latimer worked with Zman on the SMH shakey head jig and worm they made a winner. I’ve never been able to catch fish on anything but those. I love the smoke purple and green goby colors.
The SMH system from Brian Latimer is killer! So happy you put it in this video, and thank you for simplifying this technique. I overthink it every time I do it.
Excellent fishing seminar. My shaky head success has dwindled to nothing. This seminar gives me the confidence to hit it again Friday.
Matt: "For the guy that doesn't want to dive down this rabbit hole with me..." . Roughly 99 percent of viewers: "Rabbit hole, rabbit hole, rabbit hole!" . :-) . Seriously, I think that presenting the "why" behind the simple "use this head" in such a logical and eloquent manner is part of what sets Tactical Bassin apart from so many others on CZcams. Once you dive down that Rabbit Hole you see not only the various paths to success that are available to you, you also gain an appreciation of how much research and trial and error goes into these instructional videos. Thanks as always for a great presentation, Matt, and I hope you and Tim have a fantastic time tackle-geeking at ICAST.
It would be interesting to see how you store and organize all your baits. As I was watching this video about shakey heads, I was thinking how do you keep track of all the heads sizes, different styles, worm colors, ect. I imagine you have a system and I bet we could all learn from seeing it.
I remember first getting into the shakey head. I was a shaker until I watched your stuff. Definitely upped my game dragging and hopping.
Love these in depth vids. Shakey head worms just get bit. One of my favorite Shakey head baits is actually a jr. rage tail craw. I think craws on a Shakey head get overlooked.
Awesome video! I've been throwing a shaky head more trying to grow in that area and it's amazing how much confidence I have in the Canterbury Head and T-mac worm just because of hearing you talk about them. Sticking fish left and right with it! Keep up the great content!
Really well done, thorough, practical and can't wait to wet a line with this new fund of knowledge!
Shaky heads catch bass period! This video is golden and full of great info. When bass are not very active these shaky heads shuttle action is very tempting for any bass. Love this video!
Great video!! You guys, by far, are the most technical. I love all the details and information you provide. I learn a lot every time.
Next video: you bankfishing with Sierra! My favorite all-time fishing memory is bank-fishing with my son when he was 8 years old on a small private pond at a house we were renting on the Maryland shore. I brought all this saltwater gear, caught nothing all week. But every day we went to that pond early evening, caught HUGE bass on small spinnerbaits and Senkos. And that Culprit curly tail bait also slayed. It ignited a passion for fishing in my son that he has to this day. And he still kicks my ass nearly every outing throwing those Senkos while I am switching out baits every 5 minutes. Great vid, will definitely help me dial in my shaky head approach.
Thanks for the video! Been crushing them on the 10”+ worms. Thanks for the information gentleman
My introduction to bass fishing as a teenager was the Texas rigged Culprit curly tail worm. And they are still a staple today at 50. I think you could probably rig them hookless and still land fish. Not saying I don't fish other worms, but I just have a huge amount of confidence in Culprit products.
Man Bear Pig on a shakey head is FIRE... as just another option! Love these videos! Keep up the most excellent work!
“You probably don’t throw all these worms and shaky heads” he says... well I didn’t until I watched this, now I have to try them
