  • These secret online games between Bobby Fischer and Nigel Short, dating back to 2001, stand out in many ways. Gone are the theories where this was a Bobby Fischer impersonator who used an engine to beat Nigel. This theory is now out of the window but can we categorically say the person who has beaten Nigel Short was Bobby Fischer? Even if not, this person had to be on top of his game and this is why. This video uses Artificial Intelligence Software DecodeChess to assess if a chess engine could be used to take Nigel Short down.

Is there any way you can please do a similar analysis of the last game (game 8) of this 8-game match between "Fischer and Short" ?
    Thank you again.

Engine just played na6 and back.

Evaluation was +2 and 15 moves later Carlson lost.

And this is most likely what happens in these games- someone plays some silly moves at fitsy, has a disadvantage, then the engine takes over.

Excuse me Mr. Chess Puzzler how can you exclaim that these moves are engine moves when it has been clear from the start that Fischer has been buggering about for the fun of it for a ton of moves already? Who's to say that these so called "engine moves" aren't just some interesting looking moves to "bugger about" with at any time he liked? And still be probably confident of winning?

  • @SeldomFollower

Fischer or not. Whoever this is, is a phantom on the chess board. His moves are the reason why traditional chess needs to be spiced up. Anything is possible in chess. The combinations during a chess game was said to be the number 10 with 40 zero's, that's more then all the atoms in our solar system x2. Thinking about that, the combinations are unlimited and fischer or not, whoever this is. Was doing ALOT of his homework, or, who knows, maybe he learned something none of us have yet. Great video and great chess game. Im going to study these games

Fritz chess program could not have beaten Short 8-0 after that terrible opening, Short was 2700 and one of the best blitz players.
Short said he was 99% sure it was Fischer, and it's not actually the game itself but the way the unknown played talked, he yapped about jews and also responded immediately to all of Shorts questions and some of them like the Mexican chess player question, could only be answered by Fischer.

I believe it was him and we have to take it from Fichers point of view and why he would lie an say it wasn't him. Ficher obviously believed people were screwing him over an making money off his chess career. I believe during that time Ficher was in hiding as well, so he wouldn't openly admit it was him because he knew the press an what not would of made all the money from publishing these blitz games an what not, and he also knew, the press would of haggled to find him an talk to him about it, something Ficher would not of wanted as he valued his privacy, especially if he was in hiding at this time.
