Candidates 2024 - Naka vs Nepo Produced The Most Spectacular Game
zhlédnutí 179Před měsícem
The game of Round 7 in the Toronto Candidates of 2024 had to be by far the most spectacular game from the whole lot. Nepo not only felt closer to home by choosing the Russian Opening but he was the one who was threating most of the time. If you missed this game, it is highly recommended.
Nakamura vs Vidit : FIDE Candidates 2024: PUNISHED

This had to be the game of the Candidates to date. With Naka taking the white pieces, and with an opening he played inside out, the game was expected to go his way. But did it really in the end? A great game neverheless with plenty of action from both sides

    EGTB give half-moves as DTZ! DTZ means Depth to Zeroing where the material changes (in your case where the queen captures the knight and was recaptured! There you'll see the switch in the DTZ twice. That's what makes Syzygy better than Stockfish's own 12 moves mate - 9 moves are 3 moves less! 😛 Fun fact: Stockfish can use Syzygy tablebases! 😇

    Blunder is when the move affects the result. Here we see the winning side playing first mate it sees (not finding shorter ones) and losing side avoiding tablebase positions. So, no blunders, just style choices when the result is already clear.

  • @mmartel
    @mmartel Před 6 měsíci

    Fascinating to see the evals as well as move selections in these moments. It's almost as if the engines sometimes throw in towel and say, "I can't resign but this position is so lost who cares what move I make, or how many moves it takes until mate, the game is over" and just make a random eval and choose a random horrible move. Well, at least they don't flag! 😂

  • @SpaghettiMonster0144
    @SpaghettiMonster0144 Před 7 měsíci

    A strong proof would require showing tablebase the whole time not just after you make some random moves not recommended by tablebase. This is just misinfo. Syzygy itself is a strong proof because it provides definitive outcomes for chess endgames with perfect knowledge, demonstrating the precise nature of winning, drawing, or losing positions without the uncertainty of human analysis.

    I'm terribly sorry to hear things aren't going well. Thanks again for doing these annotations. Your channel is a treasure and I enjoy your narrations immensely. It's worth noting that the opening choice here was selected from some ideas I wanted to test in the Jaenisch Gambit. Velvet had been given the black pieces in each game as a way to compensate for the rating deficit of the engines. Engines are a great tool to explore novel possibilities, and games like this illustrate how even many "unsound" openings can be incredibly difficult to refute with excellent play. I hope we can do this again in the near future. Until then, take care of yourself.
