Fun fact: Wario WAS supposed to be in melee but was left due to time crunch. Sakurai said if he had more time, Wario would have been added
Makes sense cause melee only had 13 months of development time.
@CHAGWAG Yeah it's also my favorite smash Bros game.
My second favorite is brawl because the music and the story mode slaps hard!
@Zacktheasdfguy Yep! Sonic, Wario and Snake.
I believe he also said he COULD have added Wario if he based his moveset around Mario, but thought Wario was too unique to just mimic Mairo and deserved better than that. This idea would instead be used for Dr. Mario. Not sure if he actually said this, though.
"Because Wario deserved better" - Sakurai
the 'hurry up!' phase for the stage is such a good touch lol
Fr bro. Honestly this whole video is packed full of character analysis I love it
Agree, the stage may have been my favorite part
I'm depressed that there isn't any Wario stage out there without the Hurry Up phase.

@@janehenderson-qh7jb yeah I'll get to work on it
Wario should have taken Ganon's spot in Melee, and Ganondorf should have been a Brawl newcomer. This way, Wario would have been closer to his portrayal in Wario Land, and Ganondorf wouldn't have been rushed into being a Captain Falcon clone
But maybe Wario would have been a clone of someone
@@FlameCodenameMashing Hero Sex Guy said he would have been a mario clone
He should have replaced Dr Mario's place (Gannodorf at least felt unique in comparison).

I wonder why neither Wario or Mario have the ground pound as a move
Just a Dude Wario kinda does as his down throw
Yoshi was the first to have a ground pound. In SMW2: Yoshi's Island
But who knows
@@rayminishi689 Yeah technically Mario borrowed the ground pound from Yoshi from SMW2 which technically was also borrowed from Bowser who did it first in SMB3
@@dragonball4ever2009 Yeah came here to bring up SMB3 Bowser, Mario could do a quasi Ground pound as well in 3 with the tanooki suit's stone Mario.
I think mario is fine without it, since he wasn't the first to have it.
I think “Have a rotten day” from Wario world should definitely be a voice line for his back throw
Or even taunts
Nah, he says it when he wins, new win anims baby
I don't think Wario World was taken into account when this video was being made.
@@TheKorenji It actually makes sense when you consider that Shake It! wasn’t that taken into account when he was being made back in Brawl

For me the issue is music. We have one wario land song, yet Gamer is in??
Honestly, I think they’ve put in a heap of his Wario Land moves. His dash attack and crawl animation come from it, and if you look at his landing lag animation on his back air, he mimics his ground pound

If Wario was planned for Melee, I doubt they could even pull a lot from Wario Land 4 because of the short development time. I could see concepts like Wario's transformations being done, but I don't think specific animations would be ready to be referenced.
wario WAS planned for melee tho. but they got rid of him bc they lacked time
@@user-gu3nd7si5m I wonder what they planned on doing?
@@phoebeaurum7113 I was gonna be a slower Mario clone
@@GodOfGreed most likely, Sakurai said he doesn’t really know much about Wario games other than a bit of WarioWare, he even controversially got rid of the Shoulder Bash (that was really more of the tackle from WL3’s golf instead of the real thing) in Sm4sh and replaced it with some random backhanded punch that rubbed a lot of people the wrong way, but he may’ve also preferred to give him more uniqueness, otherwise chances are that we would have gotten Wario as the slower, heavy hitting Mario instead of Dr. Mario, and having a different size is no problem for clones because Young Link and Pichu exist
@@Improvisado64 okay, I’ve been looking it up and…yeah, I can’t find that, weird, I do remember somewhere mentioning he’s only ever played WarioWare games prior to Wario’s development in Brawl, even though Shake It was also being developed at a similar time (even the Stonecarving City theme is an extension of Wario’s victory theme that was made for Smash!), soooo okay, what I said was an exaggeration, or just a straight lie coming from foggy memory, at best only thing he did do was remove his Shoulder Bash for the sake of “making him stronger”, saying he prioritizes the character being fun and enjoyable over being faithful, which was ironic considering the og Smash attack was pretty good and the new one was and still is way less useful, so it ended up being a nerf, not a buff, buuut that’s really it as far as I can find, sooo, sorry for that dumb misinformation :,c

Also, I really hate dr mario. Have I mentioned that?

Great video. Amazing attention to detail, from the model you used from Melee's Wario Trophy, and the wonderful renders produced from Blender, as well as the careful examination of the source material to develop his moveset and animations, and the mention of Project M. Sub'd!

I mentioned it in another reply, but I did briefly consider it. That or a fireball attack that would act like an explosion/kill move, a-la Super Mario Land 2 final boss
Wario is by far the only character I don't want to change at all, is just perfect as he is, instead, what if we had two Warios? We have 2 Marios, 3 Samus, 4 Marths, and 3 Links, why not a 2nd Wario that resembles Wario Land?

As someone who has recently gotten into the Wario Land series, I wish this is what we got for a moveset, I love this
There are no custom melee characters yet, but we’re close to one.
Edit: Now there are! This is now possible!

"why is every mario related stage a fucking stupid green plains level or 1-1? (except for rainbow road whose pride is selfjerking)"
"if they want to not represent wario land in his moveset so much then why don't they just make a stage about it?"
"who fucking let the entirety of wario land only have a single song in ult's soundtrack yet let have mario sports superstars have two?"
"where is wario in melee?"
glad to see a video address these issues :)
I'm so glad you included vb wario land, imo it's the best one and you can see a lot of ideas starting to develop that would eventually be used in later wario land games. Great job on the video.
Great video, man! Just finished watching and when it comes to your content, I love how in-depth you go when you want to explore something in/about a game.
Good, a Waluigi reference that isn't Mario or Luigi.
This is actually a really cool video! Not only did you put a lot of work into the visuals, but you also were very careful not to reuse too many similar ideas between moves and animations. I love it!
I've thought about a lot of what-ifs like this, too. Basically, what would Melee be like if it had more dev time and could represent each franchise more thoroughly? For example, I've always thought if they had more time, they might add Scizor to represent Pokemon Gold and Silver since he represents so much new content from GS between being a new pokemon, a new evolution, a new type, and even representing held items because of his method of evolution, all while fitting perfectly with the rest of the roster thanks to being bipedal. But I'd love to explore this idea further to the degree that you have with Wario.
I think Wario's pummel (at least in current Smash games) should be him shaking the opponent like in Wario Land Shake It.
All the music stamps too! Love the extra work you put in your vids! It means a lot for both viewers and the composers
I'm glad you didn't completely trash on Wario's current moveset like a lot of other people do. Great moveset btw, there's a lot of great ideas here
You did a great job here, I loved the ideas and what you pulled from. I wouldn't mind to see more of these.
you sir are one of the greatest achievements, this moveset is fucking incredible
Hey, that's pretty neat. Those are some cool ideas for Wario, I've never played WarioLand so it was interesting to hear what a WarioLand fan would do, and I understood all of the nods and references as they were explained clearly. That was a really good video, I like it.
I hope Wario becomes more weird and crazy, so that Wario Land Wario becomes a newcomer
I'd love to see both sides of Wario coexisting rather than merged with some serious biase towards one side
The merge CAN have a balance. People just don't do that for some reason.
@@rodrigomorales563 No, I meant the official Smash version of Wario Is a lot more leaning towards the WarioWare side than the Wario Land side

@@MishKoz Ah, that's right. I missed that. In Ultimate however, it looks even more like the ground pount than in Brawl and 4. He falls down more "snappy", and his arms are raised like in his ground pound animation from the WL games

I'd make it his down special.
@@rodrigomorales563 they could also move his Waft to be an attacking taunt like Kazuya and Luigi, it’s already a disrespectful move, it works perfect like a super taunt, and the online should let players use those moves because they’re not really taunts

Good idea
Man, I love this interpretation of Wario so much, especially his specials like the Down B (being a special flatten state). He even still has super goofy, cartoonish angle. I like how you said that this isn’t a “Fixing Wario” moveset but rather a What if Moveset, it’s fun to look at characters and see what directions they would taken under right circumstances. I kind of like Wario’s actual moveset but I totally agree that he should have some Wario Land influence in his Smash design.
I feel like the shoulderbash would feel more natural as his side-B, since you could then possibly jump during it as well, making it more accurate to WL.
Where are his fart moves? Where's the garlic? I don't think you're a REAL Nintendo fan after all. - Miyamoto, 2020
Here is an idea for you; he becomes spring wario for his ground up special and farts upwards for his aerial up special, the garlic can be a taunt
These are some really good ideas for how Wario or at least "Land" Wario would be like in Smash Melee. Really faithful to the series.^^
I too would like to live in a universe where official Smash Wario does not fart in his moveset anywhere.
Perfect. I've been thinking about this exact topic recently.
I love Melee, not really for its competitive gameplay (although that can be fun of course), but for its unique and weird aesthetic. As you described so aptly, its characters are sort of weird "HD" versions of their N64 appearances. My favorite is for sure Luigi, who I always affectionately refer to as "round-faced Luigi." I'd love it if you did another video like this one but explaining your ideal version of Luigi's Melee moveset based on Luigi's Mansion, but I understand a video like this is a big undertaking so it's just a pipe dream. Anyway, going back to the whole "Melee aesthetic" thing, for that reason I get a big kick out of you specifically using a Wario model that would represent his appearance at that time. I especially enjoyed seeing his model in all the extra weird poses for his special moves, and the alternate colors. Cool stuff. Cool video too! Nice work. Gave this one a like, which I don't do often.
Might I say that your selections are brilliant?
This is gonna be the best video I watch today and its 7:46 am.
Great ideas. Most of Smash's mainstays have very outdated or misrepresented movesets, I even made full sketches of Sonic's moveset.
I like to imagine how people would see in the hurry up segments of Wario Land 4. It’s crystal clear the closer things are to you but the farther you see the more distorted it gets, until you actually get there in which it’s clear again

Models are definitely very hard to animate, but you might want to consider putting this version of Wario in Rivals of Aether workshop, especially since the moves that originate from Wario Land 4 wouldn’t have to be made from scratch
Very creative, renders & ideas, and the course idea is phenomenal! I like how you think differently, but I do think abilities from Wario Land series are way less limited if used as smash attacks and aerials. very similar to Kirby's copy abilities as all of his moves, and Mr. Game & Watch. Up aerial as the basic Bull Cap already shows much more possibilities, and like Mario, special moves as his signature moves; B as his charge, B+Down as his ground pound, etc.
Also, you're very open minded and I like how you made it clear possibilities are endless. Thanks for making this video!

The tweak I would make to this move set would be his down throw being his ground punch From Wario Land shake it, where he would throw his opponent down, pause for a second, and slam his fist into their chest
Thank you so much for always making his shirt and hat match colors. The costumes in later smash games where his hat matches his overalls instead of his shirt are sinful.
Excellent video. I still very much wish Wario Land was represented more in Smash, especially having more Wario Land moves in his moveset. Wario Land is one of my favorite franchises, and I'd love it if more of the Macho Man Wario from those games was able to shine through some more in actual Smash games.

You kinda missed the oppurtinity to use the pot items from wl1 and vbwl but awesome moveset, this is really close to my dream wario moveset.
Wario is one of my favorite characters in smash.
YES NEW VIDEO
I have an idea for Wario's down throw, he would jump up in the air and drill the opponent into the ground.
This would be a reference to Wario World.
With Melee Modding starting to become more accessible, I hope to eventually see Wario in Melee with a moveset like this. It's only a matter of time now.
With how you mention Rivals of Aether so much makes me think that you want someone to make this Wario for the Rivals Workshop haha
Not really, I just like Rivals
There's like, 4 freaking Wario's there, one of which is based entirely off of wl4
First the wario apparition now this?
I just wish Wario's down throw was more like the piledriver move from Wario World, where he grabs an opponent, spins abit in the air and slams into the ground with them, burying them in the ground.
The spin throw is also a sort of reference to Wario World which I like, in Wario World you grab enemies and spin them around before throwing them.
I love this video, I had the same idea but for Princess Daisy in melee. Obviously, most likely she'd be a peach clone, however I wanted to base her moveset on Mario Land with little reliance on spinoffs. I'll say using the sky pop, marine pop, super balls, and the false Daisy's for her moveset was fun. I invite you to try to make a moveset for her. I think her taunt could be the lil can can dance the characters do if they lose this one guessing minigame in party 3, or her animation from winning a round from tennis 64 or her animation from winning in Party 3. Peach's daisy costume would be replaced with a Pauline costume, while Daisy's colors would be red from her Super Game Boy (game boy games played on the SNES), her blue costume would come from her NES open tournament golf dress, and her green dress could come from Peach's NES open tournament golf dress but im more inclined to make it gameboy screen green, and he final costume would be her purple dress from N64

And the reason we won’t get master hand is because of the fact that Nintendo intended for it to only be two things, the cursor Ipoh screen that you select characters with and it also is the final boss in the main fight.
Being able to play as master hand in melee as a discovered glitch was although cool, very weird and unlikely expected to even be a thing, we got the ability to play with master hand by glitching the lobby into getting him picked.
To think we’d even be able to control his moves as well though if not freeze the game from loading fights was weird because that’s usually what happens to oversights in Nintendo games that Nintendo didn’t intend to make be possible and or to use, so to think that master hand could although be fought with, this was considerably cool and a heck of a find for a glitch, we basically got our wish granted and although we can’t use master hand in the newer game versions, it’s because it’d be impossible as master hand is the select a player to fight with cursor for the game and thereby there’s no reason to include the cursor as a playable character.
If Nintendo was ever going to let master hand be playable, they may have to debug their game to make a model of master hand right off of the boss and make it be especially our character to pick when it’s going to in this case be a normal character.
It’s like wanting to have Missingno. in Pokèmon be a character we can use and or capture without glitching Pokémon with the old man trick, it’s an oversight and the name chosen for the player has bytes in it already programmed into any name chosen and cannot be removed because it’s how it’s scripted, so if we got to choose master hand for a playable character, maybe Nintendo would be nice to give us the playability of crazy master hand or dark master hand but again that’s just speculating what could be their fair move to make to satisfy their customers.
Looking at this video as of late and it's great.
If I ever make my own version of Wario for MUGEN (yes I know MUGEN, I'm an old man) I'll also use this vid as reference and probably give you a special thanks for an influence of a potential newer and greater Wario
