Supposedly, there’s a rumor that Wario is getting a Wario Land game for the Switch. I can only hope it’s a Virtual Boy remake of Wario Land for the Switch.
I really hope that that ends up being true!
@@MishKoz Either that or a completely new game. A title like “Wario Land: Switch it Up” has a nice ring to it. 😉
@@MrGojira95 that sounds like a warioware title
@@MishKoz I think the reason why Wario Land Shake it didn’t gain success was because
1. Captain Syrup didn’t have much of a role, since Nintendo focused too much on their joke character Waluigi, who had no personality at all; if she was Wario’s partner in crime in the Mario spin-offs, she would’ve deserved better than what we got today, like if she was viewed as a strong independent woman who is different from Peach and Daisy, but has to rely on Wario to help get the attention she needs, especially with their common interest in wealth (see “Why Captain Syrup is Greater than Waluigi” for more details).
2. They gave this game a completionist checklist that no one wanted to use. It slows down the pacing of the game, especially when the one part of the game is a speedrun from after saving the prisoner to returning back to the start! Because they never implemented the charge dash from WL4 naturally through a button, but did it artificially with a literal in-game machine, you will end up losing the charge dash the moment you just got it!
I’d rather have a brand new game than a remake. Also, your videos were my childhood, especially the Donkey Kong ones. Thanks for the memories.
just copped WL4 and gotta say ive been heavily sleeping on the series
Hi Wavy

Wario Land 4 is the pinnacle. So awesome. I really wish they’d continued
@@MaxOakland I’m surprised there were 5 honestly. Did those game even do well?
I just realized that Nintendo totally missed the chance to create a 3DS port of Virtual Boy Wario. The 3ds would've been THE perfect for it. It totally needed the Metroid 2 treatment.
Probably due to Nintendo wanting to forget the virtual boy ever happen.

Wario is one of my favorite characters, and it's so painful to see Nintendo completely ignoring the Wario Land series in favor of Wario Ware... Even Smash Bros has barely any Wario Land content. There's no Wario Land stage, and instead it's two Wario Ware stages. And there's also only one Wario Land song :/
and the reason why stonecarving city is in smash is because it's his victory theme
And they're not even doing WarioWare anymore, although the Switch would be perfect for it.

@@nicegoatdoctor8224 true. I don't know what I was thinking.
I’m so glad more people are talking about Wario Land
I played WarioLand 4 so much as a kid. Still one of the best games I've ever played.
Honestly one of my all time least favorite things in gaming is how there is absolutely no Wario Land representation in the Super Smash Bros series. Most people will forever just know Wario as the stupid fat guy who farts all the time.
"But uhh look, guys, look! It's Super Smash Bros. Brawl, totally big landmark event!
.....
It made me look like a total joke, but eh, there was steady cash flow on my end, so, uhh yeah..."
>It took them 3 games to kinda properly implement the Shoulder Tackle.
>Two WarioWare stages, no Land stages.
>They tweaked his up-smash and down-throw to look like the Wario World headbutt and the groundpound, but characters like Link and Ganondorf proved that they can overhaul movesets if they really want to.
>The only "new" Wario songs in Ultimate were just WarioWare songs that were in Brawl but not 4. Only Wario Land song is a Shake It rip.
>Only 2 Wario Land spirits, 3 if you count Count Cannoli.
For how much people praise Smash on series representation, it really screws some over. Sonic is another good example of a series totally fucked by Smash, and I'm not even that big of a Sonic fan.
@@omnipasta
As much as I love him, Pac-Man is another thing that comes to mind.
If you only had Smash to go off of, you'd think Pac-Man has only ever been a short-lived arcade series (albeit with a legacy), when it's actually had numerous titles of different genres across console generations, most notably the Pac-Man World series.
Poor Pac's got no quality music from the bulk of his games, no good alts, & half his moveset is more Namco than Pac-Man.
It's like if Mario was tossing NES sprites & riding on an Excitebike for his side-b instead of using signature power-ups, items & abilities from his homeseries proper.
I’d honestly rework his neutral special to grabbing opponents with his hands rather than his mouth and shake them like how he does in WLSI. I’d also rework his down special into some kind of ground pound or ground punch.
Thank lord mods of Smash like PM and Smash Remix use more movesets and design from the Wario Land series rather than Ware. Still sad though considering those are mods of the game and not officially a part of Nintendo.
Why does Virtual Boy Warioland look like modern indie games
Because it’s that good
Damn why’d Shake It get swept under the rug? That’s one of my favorite games of all time and my favorite Wario Land game period. It’s got absolutely gorgeous animation, a banging soundtrack, and some very creative and fun boss fights.
Very poor marketing, mostly
Shake It is dope but the forced motion controls ruin it
It's made Wario so powerful that he's snuck into several personalized copies of Super Mario 64 afterward
Wario Land 3 is one of my favorite childhood games. I have so many fond memories of it. There were so many things you didn't quite understand as a kid and you couldn't just look it up online, so the game always had this mysterious aura. Really great, nostalgic game.
the dang city level took me ages, didn't really know what to do on the inside parts.
@@oshawott5308 I felt that comment so much
That’s so true, the athmosphere of the music box setting felt magical while the progressively changing levels along with the day- night cycle gave the game a hint of realism. I also liked the level themes that felt grounded in realism, but also a little more varied than the usual platformer world themes
More people need to pay this sort of love to Wario Land. Such an underrated franchise, most criminally by Nintendo themselves. Sakurai's exclusion of Wario Land love in Smash Ultimate is depressing as well.
Sakurai's bias for and against certain series in Smash is really crappy.
Now I want a Wario Land collection game for the Nintendo Switch.
Of course, that's never gonna happen because Nintendo (sadly) doesn't care about its more niche franchises.
Well a new Metroid is coming, so I don't see why we can't get some Wario Land love.
@@commendedzuez0944 Metroid isn't exactly niche, though.
I'd argue that Metroid is more niche than Wario. Pretty much everyone knows Wario just by virtue of being in all the Mario spinoffs. With Samus comparatively fewer people would recognize her, at least compared to Wario. If I wasn't lazy I'd google the sales figures of the Metroid and Wario Land series, but Metroid has tragically sold pretty poorly, historically.

I don't know if you already know this but there's a community around a level editor for wario land 4. There editor is still a bit rough and tedious. And it's not without it's limitations but I'd still say check it out.
Yes, check the WL4 level editor guys, it's already possible to make nice levels with it and devs need more people testing it so they progress faster. There's already been good progress within two years : there is a usable tileset editor, you can import new graphics into the rom, there is a patch feature which helps you insert new code into the ROM (still need C coding capabilities and ASM knowledge), you can add new rooms, the copy and paste functions with rect-select is now real (and will save your life), ... It's in beta of course, there are some bugs and stuff you cannot make or are too slow, but don't let them discourage you : work has been done with it, see beco's hack which already features 4 playable non-kaizo levels in original WL4 vein (emerald passage) and is advancing through sapphire passage currently.
My first comment was categorized as spam by youtube because of the Wario land 4 Maker Community Server's discord invitation I put in, so I won't give it.
Is that so? I've admittedly been looking into hacking the Wario Land games recently, but haven't gotten around to looking at 4 yet.
I remember that Interdpth was considering adding Wario Land 4 functionality to his GBA Metroid editor, Double Helix, since it shares the same engine as Metroid Fusion and Zero Mission.
@@alexman2598 Dunno where this attempt went, but the WL4 editor we're talking is a separate project. Also welcome to the server ! :)

Wario Land 4 is literally the best game on the GBA.
Mother 3
Sean Davis nah
The gameplay of mother 3 wasn’t that fun tbh, probably cuz I don’t like most rpg’s. I do think that wario land 4 is one of the best
TRUE
1:35 "Nice, thank you."
4:29 "Wow, such a terrible liar."
I really like how Wario land 2 and 3's levels are always designed in a way that the enemies can still pose a threat even though you can't take any damage. Trying to prevent getting sent back to the start of the level after being lit on fire felt like a minigame. Having to plan out where it was okay to turn into a zombie and where it wasn't was a fun challenge. I'm glad they removed it from wario land 4 though, because you could tell that the shackles were off with how good the level design was in that game.
You want fun?, Wario gives you fun
Wario Land 1 and 3 took up so much of my childhood.
Well technically only 1.
I was already 10 when the 3rd came out, so I guess my preteen years for it
It’s a shame Nintendo doesn’t do anything with Wario anymore. Like am I so crazy to think that a 3D platformer to rival super Mario odyssey starring Wario would be so amazing? I think that could be incredible and do so well...I don’t think Nintendo will give it to us tho..they’ll keep Wario to mini game type games like Warioware, which are great. But a big throwback to warioland rivaling Mario odyssey would make my life
Wario World is an amazing game, it’s on the GameCube. Check it out, it’s what you’re looking for
There has to be more 3d and 2d Wario platformer games
Wario Land 4's intro is the coolest cutscene Nintendo ever made and it's on the fucking GBA.
Do a video on Wario Land: Shake It too!! It's super underrated
I have a feeling more people would talk about how good this series is if it starred someone other than Wario.
Barring Samus, Wario is probably my favorite Nintendo character.
Or if new titles or remakes happened.
What? You know he got so many games because the character was insanely popular and still very much is.
@@PutnamentalAnimation Lmao this so much. He's literally one of Nintendo's biggest mascots.
One of the biggest appeals of Wario Land to many people, was him being different from Nintendo's other protagonist. Unlike all of Nintendo's other big stars, Wario to this day is the only Nintendo franchise to have the main character not have a sense of justice. You're pretty much playing as the bad guy in the first few Wario titles.
Dude you're seriously my new favorite content creator.
Something that's always made me curious is whatever happened to Wario Land 3's composer Kozue Ishikawa. I had heard she retired in 2001, but I can't find any verified information on her. That seems to be a reoccurring theme with former Nintendo workers, Shinichi Shimomura, Ishikawa, and many others. Creepy.
I was wondering why Ishikawa wasn’t involved in anything after a while. It’s entirely possible that she’s just taking it easy and doesn’t want to be on the radar, but if that isn’t the case and something else potentially dire has happened then that’s a huge bummer.
I think it's important to mention that the lack of Wario Land pretty much was caused by R&D1 disbanding.
Damn, a shame he didn't get to talk about shake it, it was my childhood, all drawn, absolute beast of a game
Although not Wario "Land", Wario "World" is one of my favorite games for the gamecube. I just wish it was longer
Finally, some light can be shed onto one of the best series ever made
Wario is one of my favorite characters, so I'll definitely try playing this series if I get the chance.
Imo Wario Land 3's Golf Minigame is still much better than WL2 memory game to get treasure from levels.
I'm glad I'm not the only one who has this much love for the Wario Land series. Keep it up my guy
"Incredible, incredible. Hey look guys look, the virtual boy!"

An unconventional series of Mario spin-offs that generally are considered to be great games consistently?

“Look, guys! It’s-a my greatest achievement: Wario Land 4!”
jeez wario land on the virtual boy has gorgeous animations
Honestly, as a returning player from Mario Land 2 as a kid, Wario Land 1 was such an amazing and surreal experience. It was so much fun to combine the classic tried-and-true Mario formula with a more "tanky" powerhouse like Wario, and truly feel like you were playing a different game than what Nintendo had been offering for all those years before.
Wario has been my favourite character since playing Mario party 2 and smash brawl cemented him my fav
We are in 2021 and still no achievement on nintendo switch
my somewhat concerning wario land obsession is returning so i'm binging all of its content in youtube and i liked immediately because of that glorious intro
4:45 That caught me off guard, hah.
Okay first of all Yoshi’s Island does count, but second of all I loved this video. The Wario Land games deserve more love.
All Wario Land games are amazing! Especially the first one and the fourth one have a special place in my heart.
7:16 - "Wario looks kinda... weird in this game."
Implying that Wario looks like a typical human being in other games.

I love your videos man. Keep it comin. I'll be here to view them every time.
Wario Land 2 was the first game where I ever had the battery die on me, making it impossible to save. Imagine my disappointment and confusion as a child
Warioland 4 just happened to be one of the only gameboy advance games I had as a kid and it’s still one of my favorites
There should be another Wario Land game.
I just hope pizza tower gets more popularity when it comes out
There is 2 types of video you can expect from this channel. Bad quality bait, or superior videos with a lot of effort put into it, wich result in really good content.
Wait, this is not top 10 people who died in wario development
AAAAAAAAAA THIS HAS BEEN MY FAVORITE GAME FOR ALMOST 12 YEARS OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG
Thank you for that intro! I need it!
I don’t think I’ve heard so much about Virtual Boy Wario Land. Thank you, kind sir.
Thank you for this video! Wario Land 4 is one of my favourite GBA games of all time and I'm a huge fan of the series. I understand Wario: Master of Disguise was not included, but it was the only platform Wario game on the DS, with treasures and power-up mechanics. What's great is that you mentioned Pizza Tower, which I hope turns out fantastic! I wish Nintendo would bring some of their franchises back to the Switch (Wario, Metroid, F-Zero, Star Fox, etc.). Otherwise we'd have to wait for the fans to bring their ideas to life.
Wario wasn't being biased. Wario Land 4 is one of gaming's greatest achievement.
Another thing that really makes wario land 4 my favorite is the sound design taking after the wario ware games. It really adds to the insanity and acts as a cool gate between the 2 franchises
So one day I bought a Game Boy Pocket from a thrift store for pretty cheap
I was well aquatinted with the Game Boy Advance through the Bottom port on my DS. My many hours of Pokemon Leafgreen proves that much
However, I wasn't well aquatinted with the mythical "Original Game Boy" as DS couldn't play those games for whatever reason
I made my way through the GB library I found lying around like Pokemon Gold (with a dead battery of course) and Super Mario Bros Deluxe and a whole host of games I hadn't played yet.
I ended up stumbling upon a shoebox with a copy of Wario Land stuck under the paper at the bottom
It had a somewhat ripped label but I could read the text at the top.
I stuck it into the Game Boy, most likely with another set of cheap AAAs to replace yet another pair of dying ones and started the game.
From Wario taking down Syrup's pirate ship to Mario taking back his statue, I was completely enraptured with the game.
I have no idea why I ended up liking it so much. It could've been the downpaced gameplay, the treasure hunting, the big sprites or the stage design.
Something about the game just _clicked_ with me.
Notably, I remember many of the stage designs despite not playing the game for a long time. I remember the beach level, the mountains, the forest with the cool train level, the hard ass Hot Cave and Tower levels and the hidden Glacier nearby Mt. Teapot.
The game made me wonder and it made me explore.
Most importantly, it's just a fun ass game.
The best part is that it's not even the best one.
Go play Wario Land. Go play all of them.
They're some good stuff.
Wario land 3 is the best, in my opinion. A level based metroidvania with puzzles and enemies that change based on the day/night cycle, and your character is immortal. It just seems the most complex in term of mechanics.
Hey, for the people out there checking on the Wario Land series, there is a Wario Land II rom that adds color to the game like GBC game.
Wario Land II and III were the perfect platformers for a handled device.
wario games getting some much deserved love, great video!
It’s actually one of Wario’s greatest achievements
12:15
Superjail?
That’d be an awesome idea for a Superjail game. Either a Castlevania-like Metroidvania game where you use the Warden’s multiple powers and death machines as weapons and abilities.
Or if they don’t want such an OP character, they could do a “beat em up” thing starring Alice beating up the inmates.
Wl4 ost is amazing. Monsoon jungle might be the best song.
Honestly there's a reason Wario Land 3 is my personal favorite game of all time. It's kooky, it's funny, it's lovable, and the soundtrack is unforgettable. I used to play Wario Land 3 on my GBA and 2DS on special ocassions, but once the randomizer came out, I played the game almost daily for about a year. Of course after playing a game daily for about a year the burn out catches up with you, but I still play it now and then.
This was a great video! I hope your channel keeps growing.
God I fucking love this channel, the content is so good.
The main Wario series is definitely of the best Nintendo platformers.
My top pick is still DKC, but Wario is like 2nd or 3rd.
My first Wario Land was Shake It, but it wasn't until I played 4 from the ambassador program that I knew I needed to play the rest.
i loved when you just added wario laughing in the background
rewatching this video and seeing how different pizza tower used to look is super interesting
Wario Land 3 is probably my most played Gameboy Color game. I tried a demo of WL4 at Circuit City and just wasn't impressed. Personally I like 3 for, as you described, its nonlinear level design, puzzle platforming, and Metroid-vania progression system. It was that last aspect in particular which kept me playing for hours hoping the next chest would unlock a new ability.
Thank you, this game introduced me to Pizza Tower and I couldn't be more grateful.
Man, I just really fucking miss Wario Land... especially when I play Smash and i look at that empty space between Zero Suit Samus and Snake
Wario Land 3 was the first video game to make me cry.
Wow, this was really good, I didnt expect Wario Land 4 to be that loved
As Wario would say: Incredible, incredible.
Yesss i love your commentaries
I've played Wario Land 3 since I was a kid and to this day, I can't beat it. I always reached a brick wall where I don't get powerups. One of these days I'll get it done
The animation im shake it is so beautiful
But um... Look guys look! It's one of my greatest achievements Wario Land 4 for the GameBoy Advance. Ha ha!
Wario Land 3 is a level based metroidvania
And also a big part of my childhood
