What is your favorite stage in ALL of Smash history?
King of Fighters Stadium
Minecraft. Just because it represents the Smash community rioting over Steve.
64: Mushroom Kingdom,Hyrule Castle and Peach’s Castle
Melee: Big Blue,Temple,Pokémon Stadium and Fourside
Brawl: Tie between Delfino Plaza and Bridge of Eldin
3DS/Wii U Donkey Kong Returns Stage and Pyrosphere
Ultimate: Dragon Quest Stage and Minecraft Stage
Excluding Battlefield,Metal Mario Stage Final Destination etc
Rainbow Road, Pac-Maze, and especially Yoshi’s Island (Melee)
Pizzascape
Nintendo: How many Easter Eggs discussions do you want for Star Fox?
Sakurai: Yes.
Hey, they might as well if they're not going to focus on Star Fox at all otherwise.
It's surprising to see Ridley in SMASH64 on the Metroid level in the background and you can see he's in his Super Metroid look.
Idk how I even missed that as a kid.
that means that Ridley is in every smash game in some form
@@Silly-ne9td Maybe.
@@corenasue definitely
Edit: Just remembered he wasn’t a boss in melee
@@rafflesia5165 he was in the trailer for melee
One thing I love about Mushroom Kingdom 64 is the Buzzy Beetle jumping in the spring in the background. It looks like it’s having so much fun, it even does a flip :D
Apparently its inclusion was an idea from Sakurai's wife!
@@gv82089 That she included in the game secretly without telling anyone, and nobody on the dev team noticed.
Any sources on this?@@mukomaryan4919
2:32:17 An extra thing to note about Mario Maker on Smash 3DS is that if you play on the Omega form, it will cycle through all four styles since it doesn't have to worry about randomization and whatnot.
On my hands and knees begging for Meta Crystal to become a full-on stage one day. It would just have to be made bigger.
Can you imagine if they added that in ultimate as a free dlc on the 20th anniversary of Super Smash Bros?
@@TwilightLink77 Smash is already far older than 20 years old

Kraid appearing in Brinstar Depths in Melee is a nod to his appearance in Super Metroid where he was also fought at Brinstar Depths since Kraid's Lair was destroy in the first game.
Brinstar Depths IS Kraid's Lair. Just different names used in different games. The areas are the same because Kraid's Lair was not destroyed in Metroid 1, only Tourian exploded. It looks different in Super Metroid to not reuse the same rooms from Metroid 1 and add more variety.
Some corrections:
(PictoChat 2): The Wario nose drawing is actually based on the WarioWare Touched title screen, as those same jumping noses scatter around the screen in that game.
(Pac-Land): Ms. Pac-Man's design in the international version is based on the Pac-Man cartoon at the time, as with all the other character designs in that version.
Also, he mentions the smash 64 mario bros stage only returning in ultimate, but it was unlockable in melee too
that's a different stage with the same name
@@SilverAegis39no, despite the stage having the same origins, the stage and his hazards are quite different
And pow block was smb2 USA version
You gotta love how Masahiro Sakurai put care into every stage. The man will forever be a legend among video games history.
3 hours? BUCKLE UP EVERYONE
Wow didn't even realize

Putting on my seatbelt
My favorite stages from each game are:
Smash 64: Hyrule Castle
Melee: Rainbow Cruise
Brawl: Green Hill Zone (even though I'm kind of sick of the stage thanks to Sega reusing it over and over)
Smash 4: Wily Castle
Ultimate: King of Fighters Stadium
no one likes willy castle from smash 4 lol and no one asked so shut ur mouth
You picked the worst level in each game. Lmao
@@ZyrusSmith Or you're just full of shit.
@@ZyrusSmith Or you just suck at these stages.
@@ZyrusSmith Or you just don't know how to play in these stages.
Now do "EVERY Newcomer (A.K.A. the fighters themselves) origin in Super Smash Bros. history" from Mario to Sora, please.
yesss
Technically the Don't move microgame is in Warioware Twisted where you can't move your GBA to avoid cracking an egg
Yes, but it's design in Smash is unique
@@pi2082 I did say "technically"
Funny story: a week before the star wars force awakens movies would premier, and I already had my ticket, the miiverse stage spoiled me on the ending of the movie. I was like "what the actual f". I was so pissed at the stage I refused to play on it every again.
Your anger should not be at the stage but at the person who chose to spoil it
Holy moly! Same. The Han thing right?
@@HerbyRuths I think it was something like "han gets killed by his sith Lord son" or something (it has been quite a few years) but quite the coincidence it happened to you too
I'm fairly certain that happened to everyone who played the miiverse stage i also saw such comments around the time. I would have been upset but I'm more of a star trek fan anyway
Fun fact: the trees in the backgrounds of the Minecraft stages don’t actually all sit on real blocks. At one point I planned to build all of the Minecraft smash stages in a world, but as that world was unfortunately deleted, I only ever completed the omega version of the stage, which always uses the village appearance. If I’m remembering correctly, neither of the background trees sat on an existing block, but instead were placed in between where two blocks normally would be. The best I can assume about why they did this is that I guess it might look slightly better placement wise, although I only noticed the difference when actually placing the blocks in game, so I don’t think it actually changes much in the visual aspect
Some extra things:
1. In the background of Onett, there is a large excavator. There are no excavators in Onett, BUT there is one in Dusty Dunes Desert. This is probably just a little reference, as an excavator still fits well into a city setting.
2. During the Distant Planet segment, you talk about The Forest of Hope, but accidentally show footage of The Impact Site instead. Whoops!
3. It is true that Buzzbombs don't appear in Spiral Mountain, but they do appear in the game's opening. This is why I assume Buzzbombs appear in Spiral Mountain besides the usual vegetable enemies.
Thank you for the time and dedication you took to make us this amazing video 🙏
Fun fact! The Shiekah runes that appear on the platform that appears after you break the tower on The Great Plataeu Tower stage spells out "Smash Bros".
I wish there was a nether portal for every stage variation in minecraft. Maybe when someone damages the portal it brings the stage into the nether, which has 3 settings. The soul sand valley, warped forest, and crimson forest.
You forgot about the Neckies (the vultures) that fly over Kongo Jungle 64; and the Goonies (Seagulls), Happy Flowers, and Chain Chomps of Brawl's Yoshi's Island.
Can't believe he called it "pit of doom" and not "Hyrule Fight Club"
27:16 I KNEW IT! I knew it was a reimagining of 64!
I'm not sure how much of a reference it is or if it's just coincidence, but I think it's neat how in Sky World you can't go down through the platforms until you smash them and then you can. Just how like in Kid Icarus there are some tiles you can go through and some you can't and it REALLY matters sometimes.
I think Castle Siege is most closely based on Path of Radiance, since the flags are those of Daein (the enemy country in that game). I remember people speculating that Ashnard was going to be in Brawl because of this.
I'd say my favorite stages for each game are:
Melee: Pokemon Stadium, Mute City, Temple, and Brinstar.
Brawl: Pokemon Stadium 2, Spear Pillar, Port Town Aero Dive, Norfair and Lylat Cruise
Smash 3DS: Rainbow Road, Unova Pokemon League, Prism Tower, and Mute City SNES
Smash Wii U: Kalos Pokemon League
Smash 4 DLC: Midgar and Umbra Clock Tower
Ultimate: New Donk City Hall and Dracula's Castle
FP1: Mementos, King of Fighters Stadium, and Garreg Mach Monastery
FP2: Northern Cave, Cloud Sea of Alrest, Mishima Dojo, and Hollow Bastion
Can you make a victory pose reference video for all the 3DS/Wii U fighters? It's been a while since you made one.
Since they changed the name of Super Happy Tree in Ultimate, I was hoping they’d also change Mushroom Kingdom II’s name to Subcon. But no such luck.
Wow you pointed out a lot of details I never noticed about the ultimate stages. Thanks dude, now I can keep playing this game on full throttle.
It should be noted that the music in Onett not only isn’t from Onett, it’s not even from the second game. It’s an arrangement of “Bein’ Friends” from the first game. It plays on the overworld when Ninten has somebody in his party, and is one of several songs that had lyrics written for it on the soundtrack album.
Thank you for pointing this out!!!! It bugged me for the longest time
Props to you man. Great video. Watched the whole thing from start to finish 💯
What a wonderful, comprehensive look! Thank you very much!
Ok, now do every stage on stage builder for brawl, wii u and ultimate
😨?
This video is awesome!!! Great job to detail and time taken, thanks
Thank you for your time and dedication on this video!
It's so cool to see over time how much detail they put into each stage. I'm a huge smash fan and there are so many things I had no clue about.
By owning one of Smash Bros games, you basically own the "Best of the Best" of features series
I would love a way to pick skins for different final destinationss over the years since their aesthetics are so different
Still kind of cool that there’s a small nod to PokéFloats in Detective Pikachu. May not get it as another stage, but it’s nice that it’s remembered. (Pikachu Vs Mewtwo fighting on top of the Pokémon floats)
My brain can only focus on either 30-second clips or 2+ hour video essays. There is no in between, and this video was amazing!
2:30:36 Sneaky little self-insert with that QR code
this is one of the best videos i ever watched thank you
I appreciate all the work that goes into your videos
I would never have the patience to do even half of this video how do you do this 💀
I LOVED playing on miverse just because of how basic it was. I never knew there was anything special about it.
The "sinewy" things in brinstar are a reference to Zebetite
Been marathoning your smash references videos! Congrats man! This is what smash means the most! How rich those games are! So glad for your videos this way more people can get to know how incredible the contents in smash are and you keep the Sakurai and team work alive.
Do you by any means have plans to do with all the spirits too? Thanks again!
Smash 64's final destination looks so nice
It's sad to hear about StreetPass in past tense and in a historical context... Bring StreetPass back!
If I had to choose 1 favorite stage from every game:
N64: Hyrule Castle
Melee: Temple
Brawl: Castle Siege
3DS: Pac-Maze
Wii U: Jungle Hijinx
Ultimate: Yggdrasil’s Altar
Here’s my favorite Battlefields throughout Smash:
1. Brawl
2. Melee
3. Wii U
Favorite Final Destinations:
1. Melee
2. Wii U
3. 3DS
Reminds me of those History Behind Super Smash Bros. videos we had fron 2007 through 2011.
I watched Chuggaaconroy let’s play of Skyworld Sword recently. It was amazing! Now I know about Skyworld Sword
Thank you for this video 🔥💪🏾
It's also important to point out that the shadow moses island stage is a very faithful recreation of the outside of the actual facility, which is the second area in the original game, after the water entrance room. The spotlight is from that area, and the layout of the stage is basically straight from the game, with the gate shown on the stage being the entrance to the facility (although in the game, you are only able to enter through the vents)
2:12:39 “Defiant Statement: There is nothing you can do to me! Do your worst!”
What a phenominal video!
the qr code at 2:30:37 being to your channel is really cute
I came for the information, but also the music. Ah, so freakin nostalgic, but also genuinely great soundtracks.
For Spring Stadium there's also the arches at the top of the stage that bounce anyone that was knocked into them downard and also the monitor screen in the background showcasing all the different fighters of ARMS when in the home game it of course only showed Spring Man exclusively.
Fun fact: When the stage first got released; the display of Spring Man on the moniter had an error where Springtron’s emblem was displayed instead of Spring Man’s. This got fixed in a later patched.
i just woke up to this video playing. it’s 4am and i have no idea how i got here
just watched this because i cant seem to find the smash 4 video anywhere else
a few mistakes with pac-land
the ms pac-man design in the american version is not based on artwork for older arcade machines, but rather the hannah-barbera cartoon, which pac-land was based on but the american version was even closer to
you also missed the morning pallete of pac-land, which is a different shade of blue
also wanted to point out that the stage onett has a bulldozer in the background, which is taken from the desert section of the game, even though there's no bulldozer in onett
For Mushroom Kingdom II, I like to think that it’s more so based on Super Mario Advance, as that was a launch title for the GBA, which launched the same day as the GameCube.
Something that has always bugged me is that Sakurai said Smash 3DS was supposed to represent the “handheld history” of Nintendo. And by that, they meant that of the 20 original exclusive 3DS stages, 12 were based on 3DS games, 3 based on DS, 1 original GameBoy, 2 based on SNES, 1 NES, and 1 Arcade.
Hey Aaronitmar! How about you do an items origin? I am very curious on some of the various items that are in Smash bros, like where they come from and the references. Like the Super Scope is from a real Nintendo controller of sorts. That would be really interesting to learn about, even if I’m a competitive player who doesn’t play with Items
Man these songs took me back.
The background of the pokemon floats stage kind of gives me vibes from the Pokemon Snap stage where you find Mew
Star Wars movie length and entertainment
At 13:42, it kinda resembles the houses in the abandoned underwater town in Super Mario 64. It didn't have trees though lol!
He did his homework. Impressive
I’m going to listen to this in the background to distract myself from the thoughts of loneliness and ending it.
Hope your still here.
@@Briannasaystransrights yeah things still aren’t great
5:18
That Buzzy Beetle apparently was added by, I think Sakurai’s partner, without anyone noticing.
damn im still watching but i subscribed because holy shit i admire the dedication of doing this video
Slight correction with Castle Siege, the guy on the on the throne is inspired by the Black Knight but not him since there are noticeable differences in design
2:39:30
Fun Fact: This mistake appears because the Odyssey is based on it’s render. As this same issue can be found in Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Games (Tokyo 2020)
Damn 3 hours just to explain where the stage came from haha
All Stages from Super Smash Bros. 64, Melee, Brawl and Smash for Wii U/3DS to Ultimate with DLC Stages.
On the corneria stage you can destroy the cannon lazers on the great fox making them completely useless.
The Banzai Bill Hazard in Peaches Castle has been referenced in the Super Mario Bros Movie where Bowser summons the Banzai Bill to destroy the Mushroom Kingdom only to be stopped by Tanooki Mario.
52:11 it's so weird to see that the crowd isn't made of cutouts, like the seats and everything is just animated panels.
The fact you say brothers instead of bros validates my childhood. I was already in my mid twenties when I heard people calling it 'bros' and thought it was really strange, lol
so for corneria and venom they both appeared in the original star fox for the SNES as well, in the same positions as first and last level
I remember playing the Miiverse stage when The Force Awakens came out and learning “Lucina killed Han Solo”.
In ultimate the exclamation points appear in princess peach’s castle melee
2:30:38 I see your QR code in there how clever, Looks like there's a face in it too O:
Smash bros predicts future game’s design is because sakurai literally just asks the creators: “Hey whatcha working on?”
4:33 I wonder how this looks to kids today. I started gaming around the time Super Mario World came out, so Super Mario Bros already looked a bit old. When Smash Bros came out, that stage looked super trippy because it was the first time you would see those ancient 8-bit graphics in 3D. But now that 3D must look ancient to anyone who grew up with a Switch!
I have no doubts in my mind that the reason you can't use your own minecraft world for Smash is because roughly all of them would have many, many "body parts" that they were having a hard enough time censoring with stage builder.
Video idea: Smash Character Origins
Covers the orgins of a character's move and references.
(Ex: Mario's side B uses his cape from Super Mario World)
man I could consume Smash content for the rest of my life
Honestly find it very strange that we never got a stage based off of Gyromite, just remixed music.
It also makes ROB The Robot the only playable character that has never had his own stage which just doesn’t seem right to me.
I mean, I guess Delfino Plaza, Mario Bros, Pictochat, Pictochat 2 or Wrecking Crew can work but it’s still odd.
I have always found it cool that ROB is the only character that was a toy before becoming a video game character though.
Port Town Aero Drive should have been a R.O.B. stage at some point, too.
Awe was hoping you’d point out the secret cat poster inside the cabin on the ice stage of Pokémon stadium 2
The fart at 2:30:36 destroyed me. 😂
Gorgeous
Video Idea: I would love a All Boss Battles Origins (from 64 to ultimate)
I remembered Hanenbow's existence but forgot its entire mechanic because my Brawl disk got damaged somehow and the only effect it had was crashing the game whenever Hanenbow was selected. Technology wack
Jungle hijinxs seems like a really cool stage. I would've loved if it was in ultimate
my favorite stage is the battlefield version of the wii sports resort stage. probably just cause of nostalgia.
11:25 technically it has but not in any official title. A modified version of it is used in some P+ stage lists and I believe it is a playable stage in Smash Remix.
The stages of the Smash Bros series are such a huge staple for the franchise.
Without them and unique mechanics, Smash Bros would just be another fighting game, but with Nintendo characters.
I'd cool if this guy mades videos about Playstation Allstars Battle Royale.
2:30:38 for some reason that QR code is incredibly funny to me and I don't even know what it's for
