  • Here's a recap of all the songs that competed for Monaco in Eurovision Song Contest from 1959 to 2006, now with some better footage. Please, enjoy!
    Monaco has participated in the Eurovision Song Contest 24 times since its debut in 1959. The country's only win in the contest came in 1971 when Séverine performed "Un banc, un arbre, une rue". As a result, Monaco was expected to host the contest in 1972, but declined. As of 2022, Monaco is the only microstate which has won the contest.
    Monaco finished last at its first contest in 1959 before achieving three top three results in the 1960s. Two of these were achieved by François Deguelt, who finished third in 1960 and second in 1962. Romuald also finished third in 1964. Severine's victory in 1971 was the first of five top four results in eight years. The others were achieved by Romuald (who returned to place fourth in 1974), Mary Christy who was third in 1976, Michèle Torr, fourth in 1977 and Caline and Olivier Toussaint who were fourth in 1978. After participating in 1979, Monaco was absent from the contest for 25 years.
    Monaco is the only country to have internally selected all of their participants. While some countries organise televised national finals, it is believed that TMC does not have enough funding to organise national finals.
    Monaco returned to the contest for three years from 2004 to 2006 but failed to qualify for the final on all three occasions. The Monegasque broadcaster then withdrew from the contest, stating that regional voting patterns in the contest have effectively given Monaco no chance of qualifying for the final.

    Hoping for Monaco's return in 2024 because of the new broadcaster, it's so cool seeing microstates take part! Watching Monaco and San Marino will always be charming as you can't help but feel proud if a microstate does well lol

    • @lexezlao
      @lexezlao Před rokem +1

      the only difference with Monaco and San Marino is that Monaco will always live in the shadow of their former more successful self, honestly San Marino compared to all the other microstates got lucky, Monaco and Luxembourg realized that it was less likely that they would do well and left, and while monaco tried to return, just like Andorra who debuted alongside them they were just hard to stand out with weaker songs on massively packed semifinals, San Marino debuted with the 2 semifinal format, and didn't really start to leave a mark until the 2010s when all the other microstates left, not only that but as there was a lot more variety and quality between the songs it was easier for them to stand out, I feel like if serhat had participated in the 2000s he would've stood out way less, not only that but since no one expects them to do good so it's the slightest improvement that ends up mattering, everyone went hyped when Valentina made San Marino qualify for the first time and more when serhat made the top 20, Monaco has won before so if they return I wouldn't be surprised if they leave again due to low results

    I don't know why but I always preferred the other french-speaking countries than France in the contest. There's just something about Monaco, Belgium, Switzerland and Luxembourg's entries that make them more interesting/fun to me. Oh and the fact that Monaco left the ESC because of ONE bad result in the 70s is honestly pretty hilarious to say the least.
    These are my favourite entries:
    1976: 1st (9/10)
    1971: 3rd (8,5/10)
    2004: 24th (6,5/10)
    I'm waiting for their return, because of that so-called new broadcaster that's apparently going live in 2023.

    • @Furienna
      @Furienna Před rokem +1

      Apparently, their TV network started to lose interest in the contest in the '70s despite that they had many good results in that decade.
      So that one flop was enough for them to give up for 25 years, I guess.
      It would be fun to have them back now with their new broadcaster though.

      They didn't have age rules until i think 1990 because the year before a 12 y/o from France competed in Eurovision, so until then 1969, 1986, and 1989 were the only years that underage contestants performed in Eurovision.
