- Here's a recap of all the songs that competed for Yugoslavia + Serbia & Montenegro in Eurovision Song Contest from 1961 to 2005, now with some better footage. Please, enjoy!
Yugoslavia participated in the Eurovision Song Contest 27 times, debuting in 1961 and competing every year until its last appearance in 1992, with the exceptions of 1977-1980 and 1985. Yugoslavia won the 1989 contest and hosted the 1990 contest.
Ljiljana Petrović was Yugoslavia's first entrant in the contest in 1961 and placed eighth. In 1962, Lola Novaković gave the country its first top five result, finishing fourth. This would remain Yugoslavia's only top five result until 1983, when Danijel finished fourth with the song "Džuli". Novi Fosili also finished fourth in 1987 with "Ja sam za ples". In 1989, the country achieved its only victory in the contest, when Riva won with the song "Rock Me".
The State Union of Serbia and Montenegro participated in the Eurovision Song Contest twice: in 2004 and in 2005. Their debut appearance was a success, with the song "Lane moje" performed by Željko Joksimović finishing second. The following year, they placed seventh, courtesy of the band No Name with the song "Zauvijek moja". Following the 2006 Montenegrin independence referendum, Serbia and Montenegro have participated in the contest as separate entities, making their independent debuts in 2007.

Some of these songs are still massive hits in former Yugoslavia countries! You can still hear them all at clubs, weddings and other celebrations. Gori vatra (1973), Dzuli (1983), Ja sam za ples (1987), Hajde da ludujemo (1990) and Brazil (1991) are probably the biggest ones! Timeless classics!
I heard Hajde da ludujemo when I was in a park in Belgrade
I heard all of these but 1991 and 1973 lol
Brazil is considered a classic? Really???
@@Palpad100 among the peasents, yes.
And in Slovenia the 1975 entry is a classic everyone knows🔥
I got a little distracted for a few seconds and didn't notice Lane Moje was coming next. Once I heard Zeljko's voice, I got chills all over my body. This is forever going to be the best ESC song ever, IMO
me too. goosebumps
I agree.Lane moje is a timeless masterpiece.
I agree!
Still waiting for a song about Yugoslavia from Brazil.
i'm a brazilian eurofan and i need that asap
This is how Brazil will get into ESC
We had so many great songs in the 60's and the 70's that were so underrated.
And many ok songs in the 80's that were so overrated
@@o-b-1 So they make up for the underrating in the 60's and 70's 🤩
The old video literally had a guide to what language and country they're from, so let me do this again for those who only saw this.
Now, if divided:
Serbia: 1961, 1962, 1974, 1982, 1991, 1992, 2004
Croatia: 1963, 1965, 1968, 1969, 1971, 1972, 1986, 1987, 1988, 1989, 1990
Bosnia and Herzegovina: 1964, 1973, 1976, 1981
Slovenia: 1966, 1967, 1970, 1975
Montenegro: 1983, 1984, 2005
So we can pretty much assumed that Croatia was the most successful former Yugoslavia country up until their break up huh? They represented Yugoslavia the most out of the others and they also brought Yugoslavia their only win 1989 so... yeah. I kind of feel bad for North Macedonia though, because they were the only country that didn't get a chance to represent Yugoslavia before the break up, despite they did manage to win the national selection a few time but unfortunately for North Macedonia, the only time they won was during the time Yugoslavia decided not to participate in the contest, talk about bad luck.
@@quangminhtran2916 Yes. Though today Serbia is carrying that region on its back.
@@ariccua6101 OMG yes lol, it seems like Croatia is losing their mojo in the contest. I think they're still sending good songs in recent years but they just aren't standing out. They almost qualified in the last 2 contests (both time coming 11th place in the semi final) so I guess they just need some extra pushes to qualify to the final.
@@quangminhtran2916 Albina and Mia came so close.

from 11th place in Yugoslavia in 1986 to 4th place in Croatia in 1999, this is one of the most successful Eurovision artists to ever date
"Generacija '42" from 1974 is such a progressive masterpiece.
Unpopular opinion, but I like it a lot more than "Waterloo".
Well as a huge fan of ABBA ....I also loved Yugoslavia more in 1974 .
Also Netherlands which was my favourite of 74
i love both a whole lot. waterloo is my 1st place and moja generacija is my 4th place.
And then there's me who has "e depois do adeus" as the winner of 1974
@@carilicious Don't get me wrong, I think "Waterloo" is a great song...just not one of ABBA's best. My 4th place of 1974.
And glad you appreciate Yugoslavia's entry. Personally, I think that is the best song my country has ever sent, I like it more than "Molitva" or "Lane Moje".

Your love for Portugal and Montenegro never dies...btw you should know that 1983 and 1984 from Yugoslavia are also Montenegrin songs...if you didn't know it already 😅
Way songs so bright with pozitive hope, this days all songs opposite?

1983: Džuli - Danijel
1990: Hajde da ludujemo - Tajči

Damn before shit hit the fan politically they were really putting out some underrated bangers
Dzuli♥️Ja sam za ples❤ Mangup♥️ Rock me♥️ Hajde da ludujemo♥️ Brazil♥️ Lane moje♥️
The 80's were all ultimum hits, each one was phenomenal
1974, 1986, 1989, 1990 were great but my absolute favorites were Baby Doll in 1991 and Extra Nana 1992 - Super!!
Grandes cantores com vozes maravilhosas que merecem prestígio. A Iugoslavia com suas músicas lindas.
As a Montenegrin, I love 2005 to infinity

She also sang for Monaco once
we were robbed 1976 , no wonder we skiped next five years , that entry was one of the best ever
Yes, that entry was magnificent. There's an interesting article written at the time about the judging standards and whether Yugoslavia should continue to send contestants (Reference 5 under Ambasadori's entry on Wikipedia).
Many beautiful songs.
Yugoslavia was so underrated and ignored in this competition and deserved to win a lot of times but not 1989 imo

The best ones for 1988 and 1990
I feel like the entries that were selected but didn't get to the esc stage (1985, 2006) should've been on here, aswell as a note that 2004 and 2005 is Serbia & Montenegro, not Yugoslavia
Yugoslavia was onlycommunist country in eurovision so i it was underated,my favorite is 1986 Zeljo Moja ,such beautiful ballad
My mom knows some of the songs, and she loves them
You are putting two different countries in the same basket. Yugoslavia was composed of six republics, now independent states. And they all share the legacy. Serbia and Montenegro are a separate country.
My favorite entries 1989 and 1976
i love all of these, but 1971 and 1991 are my absolute favourites and are in my top 10 eurovision songs of all time
