    I hope these timestamps would help someone figuring out their way through this very extensive video.
    Thanks broughy, this was exactly what i needed to hear because I was wondering a lot about these kind of things and having heard these things lets me know what I have to do and what not. Even tho you couldn't proof any of these things I really appreciate the time and thoughts you put into this video and so I could easily give some time back with these timestamps :)

    A few comments on this video about the length and the things I say, in so far as suggesting it could have 6 minutes long instead of 26. Well it is 26 minutes long out of necessity. Trying to put the main points of this video into 6 minutes would mean I miss out important aspects and lead to misinformation. Knowing how these setups affect a car is one thing, but knowing why, when to use them, and why they may not actually be any use to you is something completely different. I'm not going to make a 5 minute video saying "suspension reduces oversteer and larger spoilers increase understeer" because that would be severely oversimplifying the situation. I'm not like other youtubers - I want to explain everything in detail so you know what applies, and I actively cringe at the thought of misinforming people. That is why I'm thorough with things like this and I make no apologies for that. Some things need explaining more than others, and if you want 5 minute videos that don't go in depth on topics this is not the channel for you. And ultimately if you're don't have the attention span or care to watch a video of this length and understand in depth the features I'm talking about, you aren't going to be able to have the patience to follow the advice and tune all the cars to your driving style anyway (and if you try when only knowing half the story you'll see no benefit or even make the handling worse).

    I have done this on the calico and it definetly helps. I shifted the CG as far ahead as i could with body mods to try reduce the amount of understeer. I notice long corners where i had to lift are now easy flat, and i can brake later into tighter corners where as earlier id run out of road on the exit.
    But i agree that all this only makes a difference when youre on the limit. When youre not on the limit you will probably not notice a difference.

  • @XX-ce5tv
    @XX-ce5tv Před 8 lety +1

    On the Kuruma the difference in suspension is quite noticeable especially when going off-road/rally. I think the lowered it's the less body roll but the more understeer it has.

    I'm still convinced that lowering your suspension actually creates more oversteer, Which is why i moved over to stock suspension as that created more understeer and was less prone to sliding. But i guess trying to convince people of that is probably harder that trying to convince people that the moon really is made of cheese.

  • @redlaserbm_phd

    Differences in setup wont mean much on road courses, where setting up the car is a game of compromise, which is usually why I dont care too much about setups in general. Yet, these types of nuances have made a significant difference when racing ovals. On one occasion, a different setup yielded a half-a-second difference on a track with 44-ish second lap times, a difference which can easily put a slightly lower-skilled driver above a higher one. That is to say, setups do matter a lot in the right racing environment.

    • @Fuksias
      @Fuksias Před 8 lety +1

      agreed, a setup will always favor one type of turns. personally i have a feltzer that is osiris-turismo pace on a particular track, purely because the course consists of only tight turns and hairpins.

  • @howy5799
    @howy5799 Před 8 lety +1

    what you said in the first bit of the video completely makes sense, its the exact same with real life racers, like f1 if they shed 50kg thats alot at the level they are because they literally are on the limits of what the car can do and will probably do a quicker lap, the mclaren 675lt is a great example with Shmee150 (dunno if youve heard of him). He used to own a regular hard top Mclaren 675lt and took it around spa (lets say he did 3min lap for example) but he traded it in for 675lt convertible hard top which is 50kg extra because of all the mechanisms and stuff, but he explains that this will make no difference to his spa lap time (3mins) because he isnt anywhere near the limits of what the car can do, its the exact same in GTA (in a way) with curb bouncing (example) if you are a casual racer with you friends curb bouncing wont really make a difference (may make you go a little faster) but you will notice a difference if you do a lap no curb and youre on your limit (like broughy is) and then a lap with curb bounce you may shave .200 of a second but its because he is on the limit he will notice the difference

    Guys, remember of a detail that can prevent you from crashing
    Big stuff make you big, (like a big spoiler like the Comet last option, or GT Spoiler on Feltzer, Kuruma, Sultan RS and Jester), this kind of stuff can get you spun on a curve or whatever.
    The Sandking Front Bumpers and gas tank will be better for derbying but sometimes not so good for jumping
    Choose your stuff thinking about it, about how this and other stuff will act on walls, grounds and crashes

  • @coffecupMZ
    @coffecupMZ Před 8 lety +1

    +Broughy1322 Few months ago I could swear that default suspension is the best and selecting a lowest possible suspension makes most of the cars to feel a lot heavier, less maneuverable and more sensitive to bumps. Especially Kuruma, Sultan RS. When I used other players cars I just felt their handling was different than mine. And they had different suspension, indeed. But now looks like it is GONE. Lately when people started to telling me that there is no difference at all, Ive tested suspension once again and I just couldnt believe myself, I couldn believe that I had a placebo effect. All suspension types felt the same. What DID happened, in my opinion, is that back then I had occasional rare FPS drops and we all know that game physics is affected by FPS and it looks like it was some sort of adjustment or compensation of the game engine, idk. So now when my game runs at more stable 60+ fps due to the new drivers, updates there is no such a big difference in any kind of suspension like it was before.

    I just make my cars look the way I want them to, whether that means sacrificing Off-road tyres or not, as long as a car looks good to me, that's all good.
    The only thing you really need for racing is the basic tuning upgrades, it may be true that some of these other things Broughy mentioned make an impact, but in my opinion the impact is so miniscule that it ultimately won't impact a good lap over a bad lap, and that can be said for some of the most basic upgrades as well depending on what track you are racing on.

    Does suspension have any effect on kerb boosting? I did some searching but couldn't find an answer. It would make sense that lower suspension would cause the bottom of a car to scrape the ground when going over a kerb and lose speed, but it's also possible that the boost effect is larger when the suspension is lower. Does anyone know the answer?

    So, does that mean if you put modified suspension on a van it should have the most noticeable difference as the ride height drops a lot and also, doesn't modified suspension affect the gains from Kerb boosting and also the top speeds of some cars that use that effect the most e.g. Rapid GT etc.

    Hey Broughy, does the RE-7B have a speed glitch with high-end tires as well as the stock ones? Because I currently have mine setup with one of the highend tires (Cheetah I think?) and the carbon spoiler, 2nd suspension, and everything else standard (max engine, turbo, transmission, brakes) and it goes INSANELY fast. I'm talking 20 seconds per lap faster than any of my other super cars around On the GOH (that's normally about a 2:12 for me, now down to 1:51).

    i would like to point out that cars with horrible handling from the start have a quite significant benefit from this kind of tuning. I'm talking about cars like the dominator, mamba, brioso r/a, tropos rallye, infernus. these are the only cars that will ever benefit a lot from tuning (a lot being 1 second per min of lap time and about 30% less minor fails)

      ChalieBoyGames98 Yes, there is many "secrets" techniques out there and a few hidden one too and I think it really is about time that +Broughy1322 shared them with his audience because he has known about one in particular for nearly a year now which can help with boosts on kerbs and bumps giving a huge rev boost every time you clip something. Time to set the record straight with the racing community.

  • @nicholaslau3194
    @nicholaslau3194 Před 8 lety +1

    I don't like lowered suspensions. Some cars that are so low with competition suspension that they clip kerbs and give me a horrible experience. I'd give up a little less body roll for much better stability, especially when most tracks use roads that have numerous kerbs. It may not be faster, but certainly will help you get familiar with the car and the track, and get consistent lap times.

  • @SilverFoxR
    @SilverFoxR Před 8 lety

    I'm curious now... since everyone spoke about how Carbon parts improved performance, do they increase or decrease overall weight? Perhaps the negligble difference was more because of the center of gravity effecting handling.

    • @broughy1322
      @broughy1322  Před 8 lety

      It doesn't matter if they affect weight or not since weight has no effect on performance

    • @SilverFoxR
      @SilverFoxR Před 8 lety

      I remember we covered that a while back... but with this new information being brought up, and even if the information covered in this video only slightly effects extremely high-"tiered" racers (if at all), I wondered if the carbon parts might effect the car's weight and therefore it's center of balance. Like, if you put carbon bits on the car, would it lower or raise the center of balance and therefore effect over/understeering or prevent vehicle roll to any extent.
      I mean, no matter what, it's not even that legitimate of a reason to add them versus not adding them to your car, but it might add the tiniest of creedance to all of the claims back in the day. That's mainly why I was curious...

    • @PatB22
      @PatB22 Před 7 lety

      +SilverFoxR has a legit point. Broughy you keep stating how weight has no affect but at the same time you're talking about shifting weight around (large spoilers/body kits etc) in order to adjust center of gravity/mass. By your own logic, replacing all front end parts with carbon parts would lighten up the front end considerably, thus shifting the center of balance to the rear.

  • @5JSX5
    @5JSX5 Před 8 lety

    But what about the suspension of disbelief?

  • @VaNillaGTA
    @VaNillaGTA Před 8 lety +6

    Broughy, every minute of this video was important. There is a ton of minutia regarding suspension and spoilers, and like you said, you can't take everything people say at face value. To those who watch this and wonder why it isn't cut down to "lower suspension lowers the centre of mass", and "bigger spoilers shift the centre of mass backwards", it is because you need context to understand how to best utilise that information. If you don't have 26 minutes to learn advanced driving techniques, you don't have the time to become an advanced driver, so this video isn't for you.

      Well said. Invest the time to test, invest the effort to find your sweet spot, and inevitably you will be a better racer. Again, the basic foundation of racing lines, throttling, cornering, spacing, etc needs to be laid before these finer details mean anything. Good vid Broughy!

      You can't really drift in GTA. You can slide but usually that's just because you have no rear end grip or because you have a lot of power and the rear tires can't handle it all. GTA cars just have way too much grip to drift properly

    • @aaf9666
      @aaf9666 Před 8 lety

      you can definitely drift in gta.
      my definition of drift is sliding while maintaining or gaining speed, whereas a powerslide (the most popular slides per say) is a slide that involves losing speed.
      that being said if you have the right rapid gt setup you can drift properly but not everyone can do it, you must be at a high drift skill level in order to get the most out of it

    I think I can shed some light as to why this video may be getting a larger amount of criticism than usual. Although the information you are sharing is helpful it appears to get lost in a sea of repetition, i lost count of the times that you said that this isn't for everyone and the differences are barely noticeable. I know you don't fully script your videos anymore but a better way would have been to fully explain this at the start then move on to the different categories rather than constantly stating the same points throughout.
    I'm not gonna do it but I bet if you went back, cut out unnecessary repetition or waffling you would have a more concise and to the point 15 minute video. At the end of the day you are trying to convey information across to us and if your video is all over the shop, it makes it difficult for the viewer to fully understand. I know you can do better because your CZcams money videos are very well done and really helped myself understand the whole situation. Some infographics would have definitely helped to explain the center of mass explanation too. I know you said your not the best with Photoshop but its never too late to learn :D.
