bought HJC CL-17 solid helmet from F9 and couldn't be happier. F9 is an awesome company, helpful, good prices, excellent return policy... just top notch. Thank you F9, wish we have more businesses like this in Canada
I love how you say, "Bell can charge ya $50 for the bag... and they DO!" Awesome... Anyhow, you sold me on the Race Star Café Racer helmet, it's on the way from Revzilla. I think it's gorgeous too. Thank you very much for the video, it helped me decide.
And right when my helmet foam started squeaking, F9 puts up a damn fine helmet video...too bad my wallet is a little bit "skinny" , if y'know what i mean..
30 years ago I wore Arai, mostly because they fit me best out of the big three at the time,(Arai, Bell, and Shoei.) The Defiant is at the top of my list, as I get back into riding after to long away. Can't find a Shoei or Bell that I'm comfortable with. the HJC models I've tried that fit well, have drop downs, (that fail according to riders I've talked to.) Icon Airframe fits well, but it's just missing something I can't put finger on. So more than likely it'll be an Arai Defiant Pro Cruise in Hi-Viz Yellow I buy as daily wear. My advice to anyone looking for a new lid. Try several, find the one you're most comfortable in. If it's not comfortable, you'll find it distracting, which makes you less safe as a rider. If your helmet is uncomfortable, you won't want to wear it, which means you won't ride as much. We all lose then, (as that usually means less attention to issues affecting riders.)
Hiya, Ryan--Thanks so much for your personal responses to my questions . I really appreciate it. I ended going with a Shoie full face that I really like and has all the features you emphasized. Thanks again, Man.. You are F'ing AWESOME!
HJC RPHA 11 Pro user here - Trust me on this one guys, just put this lid on and you'll feel the difference. It's snug, light and the peripherals are amazing. I'm a tall dude and I've had issues with some helmets in tuck position but this one... holy shit it's like driving one of those cars with a transparent roof. Give it a try, it's amazing. Wind noise doesn't bother me, I have ear plugs + music
Wanna throw down some appreciation, your videos are not only informative but funny too. Bought the HJC RPHA 11 because of your strait forward info, as I live in Arizona I can vouch for this helmets excellent air flow for those 100 plus days.
I can't wait for march to come so I can get the black & green RPHA 11 from you guys when it's in stock again ! By the way: I have to say you guys are doing an awesome job with these videos. Really entertaining, nicely filmed and full of useful information.
Added the Arai Siqnet Q Pro to my Shoei Rf1200 w/ photochromic shield., and Shoei Air. Siqnet Q is the quietest. Very super comfie. Visor has grown on me. Shoei is the lightest and has a better chin curtain. Used more in cold weather. Shoei Air has a drop down visor. Used more in hot weather with just the shade down at low speeds. All have pinlock. Shoeis keep my glasses in place better. Arai has better speaker ports since they are integrated into the ear liner. My 2 cents after 10 months. About the same price paid $379-$390. Thanks Doug
Everyone says order a size larger with the RPHA11. I’m a medium 57cm in both the IS17 and the RPHA11. Yeah the RPHA is slightly more snug but that snug reduces wind noise and frankly feels better and more safe. My RPHA11 is by no means an uncomfortable squeeze in the same size. Glad I didn’t order a size larger. Definitely go try them on.
Awesome review as usual Ryan, discovered your channel by mistake a few weeks ago when shopping for backpacks. Not only i'm in Canada too, you just have a new subscriber ! I tend to always go to Revzilla when looking for gear reviews, but now you guys are a game changer !
Just giving you all a heads up in case the issue hasn't been fixed yet. The magnetic snap on my Bell Vortex fell off. Hopefully it's better on the more expensive helmets.
Every retailer out there is saying to order a size bigger on the RPHA 11, but don't. I wanted a proper fit on my helmet once I decided to buy a serious helmet, so I went against all suggestions and got a small that fit HJC size chart for my head size. Yes it was tight the first day but less than a week later it was soooo comfortable to wear and is very quiet, I think this is why there are complaints for how loud it is. After a year of riding (roughly 12k miles) I almost wish I would have ordered an XS to see if I could fit my head in it because the padding wore in and there is a slight amount of room around my head now. Always buy the smallest size you can fit your head into. CON: the Riberte graphics fade after a while. I got the black/hiviz and the yellow/green is almost white on top, which pisses me off. Helmet is freaking awesome other than that though.
re: RPHA11. the helmet is ece rated. that is as good if not better than the stringent snell rated helmets. it is actually safer. the cutouts at the shoulder neck area of the helmet helps you in a crash. less likely to break a collar bone.
I couldn't agree more with your review, especially of the Bell Race Star. I had the first gen Star, and although it was a great helmet, the fit wasn't great and it was pretty loud. Flash forward to Gen2 and WOW, they have addressed those issues and more. The new models fit like a glove and they're quiet and pretty light. Ventilation is good too. I compare the Bell Race Star to my Shoei RF1200, but to be honest, the Bell fits better, has better visibility and ventilation. It also costs a bit less. I think I'm sticking with Bell for a while
Dude... Your videos are the best. There is something to be said about informative videos in an entertaining format... I am yet to find a video of your I don't like... Trust me, I'm looking hahaha. 👌🏾👍🏾 keep up the premium work my friend... No one compares
Thanks for sharing... good work, information, humor ... I ride a Naked 1986 Yamaha Radian YX600 and I have owned a Seven Zero Seven Vendetta since 2008 Paid $123.00 off the discount rack.. Nice helmet and it is now starting to fall apart vent sliders, broke screw on back plate, replacement parts are no existent!! wished I could find another. Think the HJC is looking to be a good fit :)
I just bought a naked bike for the first time. Then bought a Shoei X-14 Marquez replica. Didn't think for a second that helmets might be designed for different types of road bikes.
I bought the alliance GT for the head shape and to save money, but regretted my decision within months. The rubber lining at the bottom was peeling, the top comfort liner was falling apart, the base plates for the shield had to be replaced, it was hot and it was extremely loud. I went back to Arai helmets.
OMG, I just clicked on the Arai and it was discontinued so I was redirected to the revzilla site that has the updated model. If FortNine did this on purpose thats awesome. Very Miracle on 34th street of them. They just won me as a customer for life!!!!!
Nice video Don't get excited over the Ace Cafe though. It's just that...a greasy spoon cafe that does so so food and cups of tea. Take a look at their website - no menus on it that I can see. It's in a really seedy/grubby part of London and it's one saving grace are the number of bike meets there throughout the year.
Bro, love your knowledge, production values and your entertaining style. But, you really don't need the swearing to be cool or relevant. You're already better than most.
I'm tempted to give the Bell Race Star a go, but I have reservations about its build quality, especially in comparison with its Japanese brethren (ie Arai and Shoei).
I have a bell that has the magnet snap and it's not great. It would come off and slap the side of your helmet. I know the Shoei button seems archaic but it works every time and doesn't come loose.
I haven't, really! In my opinion the nicest shot comes from mounting the camera right to the center of the chin bar. That way the camera hangs low, giving a nice view through the dash of the motorcycle. It can be tricky to stick a camera there, though, since a lot of helmets have big vents at the centre of the chin bar. ~RyanF9
Thanks. My biggest concern about the chin bar mount is blocking the vent. I agree with the angle and POV that is achieved from that position but I also have the Drift Ghost so that is an unattainable pipe dream. lol Thanks for the reply.
Was originally a 24hr transport cafe. Has it's own website I think, if you google it, if ya interested, you'll find it. I believe there's like a franchise or something and there's others around the world.
Hey Fort9, I am from India and one of the most prominent good helmet brands available here is LS2. I have set my eyes on LS2 Vector Podium and it would be nice to see a review on that or other LS2 helmets. Thanks.
Thanks for this awesome video. I'm still very new at riding and I just got a Yamaha MT07 with a Shoei GT Air helmet. I was wondering are there any downsides to wearing a sports helmet like the HJC Rpha 11 on a naked bike? Can't help to admire those Star wars designs to be honest.
I have my eye on HJC RPHA 11pro helmet since Your holiday gift guide for sport motorcycles video, but im afraid to order it without actually trying it on myself... Waiting it to arrive to the shops where i live
I have just seen that all the Bell helmets do not use pinlock. I live in rainy Hamburg therefore visors fog up real fast, so how are these visors compared to pinlock equipped visors?
As in the cafe. Like ya local greasy spoon rough not like ya local pub where it goes silent when a stranger walks in. It's not like that. I meant the cafe where ya get ya food is not the Ritz restaurant, it's a greasy spoon, but the food is boss! If ya go once, you'll always be back there again! Very reasonable prices for food beverages etc. And a very friendly place. Always a very varied clientele.
You can't say it's the BEST helmets, while only looking at budget lids. Plus, the best helmet is the one that fits person perfect and he/she wear all the time while riding.
Have you had a chance to compare the Bell Race Star Speed Café and RSD designs? I'm set on the race star but I am torn between the 2 graphics. Your vid is the first I've actually been able to see the Ace Café graphic and I'm curious what that brushed aluminum looking portion of the RSD will look like in real life.
I don't have a video with the RSD Chief, but I've seen it! Your dilemma is understandable as they're both very nice. The brushed aluminum looks cool... wouldn't fool anyone into thinking it were real aluminum, but that's not really the point haha. ~RyanF9
I had the alliance gt and it's the noisiest helmet I've ever had. Ryan you should do a review on Riöt full carbon fiber helmet for under $400, worth a look at anyways. Great video Fortnine, see you in the next one 😀
While I appreciate your enthusiasm for the Bell Race Star as it's a nearly perfect helmet for racing, I think you went a little overboard on its praise in comparison to the standard Star and where that actually falls in line. It almost came off as if you were putting it into an irrelevance category when the reality is it stacks up evenly or even exceeds what Arai and Shoei are doing in certain regards at the same or even marginally higher price points, not to mention price points Arai and Shoei can't come down to. It is a very decent upgrade over the Star but it's nearly twice as much money when you shop around as the Star has much greater availability and can be had for the low $400's to high $300's while the Race Star is essentially fixed at around $700, and it doesn't seem like that is being accounted for. Also when you actually compare the shells, the positioning and the viewports they are virtually identical with very slight nuanced changes, I've used both extensively and in a blind swap you wouldn't know which is on your head. The Race Star is exactly what it states, it's a helmet entirely designed for racing and something I'm not taking away from this video is what is best helmet for racing. Price and features are entirely relative to the kind of riding you're doing which I know you're well aware of, and a $700+ helmet isn't ideal for even most prosumers, $500 or less is. Furthermore you're floating in the HJC RPHA 11 Pro which is only 0.17 LBS's lighter than the Star (negligible weight difference) , costs more money, is less technologically sound, is less feature complete, extremely loud and isn't Snell rated which the standard Star is. I really like your videos but this all seems a bit prematurely put together without actually weighing out the thought processes involved in rationally evaluating these helmets against even ones in the direct line of helmets you are discussing.
Super thanks for awesome video :) Also for showing us the cheaper yest still safe alternatives in case we decide to switch to some other types of motorcycles :)
You should check out the Sharp rating of the Arpha11, its ver y bad, and its one of the if not the most important things to consider when recommending a helmet
no love for AGV? the K5 is miles better in everyway than the HJC. internal sun visor, double-d strap (always a must for me). AGV and Arai are the kings of helmets for me.
For sure! Check out Schuberth - they do quiet lids better than anybody. Also I should probably mention our video on the Quietest Motorcycle Helmets (czcams.com/video/GO6guuJtPkM/video.html) ~RyanF9
I enjoy Your content quite much. Thank You for all the hard work. I do have a question, if You don't mind: Would the Bell Race Star be viable for cruising? Thank You again. Cheers!
I have a special distaste with shark specifically because every single time I've had someone put one on to test fit one they say it feels chintzy. Parts fall off the things, the quality control is maybe hit and probably miss
Ace cafe less than 30 mins ride from where I'm at. It's world famous. It's a motorcycle museum from bikes to gear. Has a shop to buy gear as well as their own merchandise. It's pretty typical biker joint too. The cafe is not rough, but that's how we like it, eh!?! The foods spot on. The beers good. They have party's, meets, shows and rides out. There's also a BIG car following there's too. They have the old hot rod shows as well as the meets of ya boy racers in their Jap mods. Was voted Local Bar Bar non, by their local council. It's historical as hell and was originally open as a cafe 24hrs a day. Unfortunately, that's no longer the case and is usually around 11 except for party's etc. Can even get married there now! If your ever in the U.K. And visiting London, forget Buckingham Palace and the Tower of London. They're boring as hell! Make your first stop the Ace Cafe, after the hotel of course. Highly recommend it. My 6 year old loves it there as every weekend it's different. There's also the mod scooter crew there sometimes. Very varied and friendly crowd.
Hey, i enjoy your videos a lot. Whats your opinion on shark spartan carbon??? Will you have a video review for that helmet?? And in comparison with rpha11??
The icon Alliance is a favourite of motovloggers actually. I'm not entirely sure why but I think it has something to do with a good place to mount a camera and it's well suited for an external mic.
bought HJC CL-17 solid helmet from F9 and couldn't be happier. F9 is an awesome company, helpful, good prices, excellent return policy... just top notch. Thank you F9, wish we have more businesses like this in Canada

You should be able to get the Rpha 11 on a discount.
I feel your pain...through my thin wallet...
I pad my wallet with monopoly money
The turning chair to showcase the helmet 360, is HILARIOUS but GENIUS at the same time...

By far, the best motorcycling channel on CZcams right now. NO faffing around, just straight dope

That Arai Defiant naked helmet has peaked my interest.
Annoying that there is only one like button. One of the best reviewers on CZcams....along with Anthony!
FortNine I Have to say, you make one of THE beast motorcycle videos on youtube. Big thanks and appreciation to your work!
I can't wait for march to come so I can get the black & green RPHA 11 from you guys when it's in stock again !

I just got the HJC RPHA 11 Joker what an amazing helmet !! Very light amazing air flow but above all huge head turner
I've had 7 concussions and the 6D brand is the best for your head. The 6D ats-1 helmet is the best
O capacete da Bell é muito bonito e parece muito confortável também. Aqui no Brasil não tem, infelizmente.
Just got my Shoei x14. Best helmet I've ever owned.
I would've put the Shark Spartan for the Nake bike helmet of the year... can't wait to get my hands on one of these for my updated helmet
Everyday I look to my recommended list for a new video from Fortnine, today I've become a happy man

I love my Arai Defiant Pro-Cruise, works great on my Suzuki GSXS1000

I just learnt a couple of features of my Arai Rebel, thanks.
Favourite channel on youtube.
The icon alliance seemed like it fit you perfectly.
I bought the alliance GT for the head shape and to save money, but regretted my decision within months. do a best commuter helmets for 2017?
Nice video
Don't get excited over the Ace Cafe though.
It's just that...a greasy spoon cafe that does so so food and cups of tea.
Take a look at their website - no menus on it that I can see.
It's in a really seedy/grubby part of London and it's one saving grace are the number of bike meets there throughout the year.
Thinking about picking up an Alliance dark. Just a nice clean look for some cheap fun.
Dude I just love how thurogh your videos are. Excellent job reviewing and getting that information out.
I have a bell that has the magnet snap and it's not great. It would come off and slap the side of your helmet. I know the Shoei button seems archaic but it works every time and doesn't come loose.
Hey! That pin lock on that Icon is simple but very effective!
Half expected you to be Licking the Bell RaceStar , When the Music and Video Queued back in.
Have you ever thought about doing a video for the best spots on a helmet to mount different cameras and/or best helmets for camera mounting?
I haven't, really! In my opinion the nicest shot comes from mounting the camera right to the center of the chin bar. That way the camera hangs low, giving a nice view through the dash of the motorcycle. It can be tricky to stick a camera there, though, since a lot of helmets have big vents at the centre of the chin bar. ~RyanF9

Shark race r pro is awesome.
I don't comment very much but I just had to after this video... brilliant job, very well done 👍
Thanks Liam! ~RF9

I like the shoei nxr its quiet.great view and only weighs 1330grms plus it looks cool. I got the parameter with the black and white digital camo
Perfectly happy with my base model Star. :)

Arai makes a "long" pro shade visor that comes down lower at the sides.
Dude this is the first video of yours I have seen, and it's great. I subscribed. Your edits are awesome, and your information is so right on.
Please do more motorcycle reviews! They're one of my favorites. Yamaha MT/FZ 10 please??
Just get the bike. I got mine last week and I love it.
RPHA 11 Venom is where it's at!
I was going to ask, when did you upgrade to the 800GSA? Congratulations!
Thanks! It's a new addition to the FortNine team. Arrived sometime in December, like all good Christmas presents. ~RyanF9
Arai, everytime 👍

Virus is a clothing company, they make moisture wicking workout clothes. Solid stuff. Their application makes sense in a helmet.
Gotta do an updated (2020) version of this.
4:43 how many eyes do u have
You can't say it's the BEST helmets, while only looking at budget lids.
Plus, the best helmet is the one that fits person perfect and he/she wear all the time while riding.
funny. I was looking at the Icon last night and thinking it was to good to be true. Thanks for the advice
Man your videos are cool you jist have to add some labeling to things you review ...
it would be a lot cooler

You are very good at what you do, you're passionate and enthusiastic that makes me wanna listen to you, I don't even own a motorcycle lmao
just bought an icon watchkeeper 'cause it's soooooo cool!
Watching videos about bike gear, getting best laughs ... super videos!
Videos are really good
Solid mix of Info and examples and the edits are great

Super thanks for awesome video :) Also for showing us the cheaper yest still safe alternatives in case we decide to switch to some other types of motorcycles :)
I was loving the bell until I saw the cafe shit on the side
Fear not - there are non-cafe versions (fortnine.ca/en/bell-race-star-helmet). ~RyanF9
You're spot on though, the design is slick, modern and attractive. One of the nicest looking lids out there atm.
Put a sticker over it.
BrO'Neill godspeed
Douche
Be sure to mention whether or not the liners are removable for washing.
I love my RPHA11 and I kind of expected it to show up in this video
Very nice video.. waiting for more motorcycle reviews
very nice video, like always. I hope you soon get to smash and burn some stuff again for your new crash test series :D keep up the good work :)
Thanks! And don't worry - I spend most of my day smashing and burning stuff at the moment. Another crash test video should be up on Thursday :) ~RF9
take a look at the mt revenge, it is very cheap and 5 stars on sharp! very comfortable too
You should check out the Sharp rating of the Arpha11, its ver y bad, and its one of the if not the most important things to consider when recommending a helmet
I have an rpha 11 in a M and fits perfectly, just bought an Arai chaser x , had to get a L , not sure of the rpha fits that smaller
Not bad, still love my Arai helmets!
no love for AGV? the K5 is miles better in everyway than the HJC. internal sun visor, double-d strap (always a must for me). AGV and Arai are the kings of helmets for me.
Short and sweet. Very informative. But!!!! Is there a helmet just as quiet as the RF1200? Love the vids man. 👍🏻
For sure! Check out Schuberth - they do quiet lids better than anybody. Also I should probably mention our video on the Quietest Motorcycle Helmets (czcams.com/video/GO6guuJtPkM/video.html) ~RyanF9
I have a rpha 11 and i love it!
Just bought the Bell star 👌
Bell could charge an extra 50 bucks for this on its own. And they do! 😂😂😂 Hilarious
I enjoy Your content quite much. Thank You for all the hard work. I do have a question, if You don't mind: Would the Bell Race Star be viable for cruising? Thank You again. Cheers!
Nexx helmet are really affordable and nice helmets
Well done! I was duped into a sedici strada... would love to see your opinion of that $200-300 helmet
this might be the first hobby ive gotten into where the astronomical pricing of the pro equipment is like naw i get it
Hey, i enjoy your videos a lot. Whats your opinion on shark spartan carbon??? Will you have a video review for that helmet?? And in comparison with rpha11??
Does Jake the garden snake have the second one ?
Manus ya
The icon Alliance is a favourite of motovloggers actually. I'm not entirely sure why but I think it has something to do with a good place to mount a camera and it's well suited for an external mic.
I have the alliance 2 and its a piece of shit. might get the alliance 3 just to see how much its improved.
