      @Ken Mason by saying “highway bars”, do you mean “crash bars” ? Assuming so, I can’t understand how they would have prevented the PD officer from getting “launched” after T-boning a car …. you’d expect him to get launched from that sort of impact with, or without highway (crash) bars.

    • @WilsonMackle101
      @WilsonMackle101 Před 2 lety +7

      @Ken Mason Highway bars and crash bars are the same thing. Their main use as far as I know is to create a buffer between the tarmac and the motorcycle so that a rider's leg won't get crushed under the bike. So I think you might have been right in saying that it was a budget justification, because they won't stop you from getting launched like a hot potato when you hit something hard enough to travel 60ft lol
      I could be wrong though, I'm no expert

    • @stefffan6032
      @stefffan6032 Před 5 lety +5

      To explain clearly what I mean: for example a jacket with goretex membrane (removable) costs 50% more than jacket with other membrane and 3x more than jacket with no membrane (european market). Instead you can use a rainsuit for 1/10 price of a goretex insert, which is good, but really not so perfect (practicaly tested). So if u have an unlimited budget to spend for that fancy fabrics it's ok, but otherwise...

    8:36 a correction and an important addition for anyone getting deep into standards. For high level protection look to see if the clothing meets EN13595 either in part of in full. Clothing made to prEN17092 has different levels starting at B (no impact protectors) A (same as B with impact protectors added), AA - medium level protection - and AAA which is high level. Even though prEN17092 is a newer standard, even AAA prEN17092(pr refers to it being a provisional standard) is (currently) inferior compared to EN13595. For the best, look for fully certified EN13595 clothing.

    • @gggromay
      @gggromay Před 5 lety +6

      The dislikes are from genuinely informed people.. “Ece offers less impact attenuation” That is misleading. Ece helmets are more flexible/less hard then Snell helmets (Snell mandate higher tolerances for penetration and thus require thicker and harder shells to pass), these means Snell helmets are heavier and stiffer, making Ece helmets lighter and softer, more flexible, meaning they ATTENUATE impacts much better, this leads researchers to believe Ece helmets are better because they absorb and attenuate impact forces to the brain, which statistically account to the majority of head injuries to riders, unlike penetrating sharp objects that account to a very little percentage of injuries, which makes Snell helmets a little out of focus, because in trying to be very strict about making hard and thick shells, they have made their helmets heavier (which is not good in a crash) and harder (which attenuate less impacts and transmit more forces to the brain). Fourtnine should get informed before misleading people

    Well done ! I enjoy your videos a lot. Just my two cents about helmets : Poly-carbonate is actually a very good compromise. The "thermoplastic" is really special as it wont crack under shock but rather bend and absorb lot of impact energy. The real drawback is that it is a bit chemical sensitive and mostly it cracks under long time stress. It means if something is bolted too tight or riveted to the PC shell it may develop cracks and may already be broken on the day it has to protect your head. As any plastic stuff the poly-carbonate is not "bad" itself but has to be used by skilled helmet maker.
    Another item that may make a significant difference is the "noise" in the helmet. No helmet is perfectly sound proof (fortunately) but some are badly noisy. A perfect helmet should allow external noise in (to a degree) but mostly NOT ADD any more.
    Sorry if my English is not perfect but it is not my mother laguage

    Hey mister F9! 😊 thoroughly enjoyed this video. You brought up many valuable and conscientious points. Its nice to see people like yourself inspiring others to take more interest in their ride safety. Its the best to do what we do, but even besterer still to be safe while doing what we love, so we can continue to do it for as long as possible 🤗🙌💯 People cannot afford to be short-sighted when it comes to personal protection and preservation of self. I've really been getting into your videos of late mate, i find your delivery and personality to be very friendly and genuine, and that's refreshing to see.. and makes for very enjoyable film too 😊👌 My hat's off to you mate, keep being awesome! Youre videos are epic. Also, you were like super active in this video 😂👌💪 i need a nap after watching lol 😂😴🤷‍♂️ (and yes, i know "besterer" isnt actually a real word lol) 🤪

    Please show how garments are really tested for CE certifacation. That woud be very informative. Keep up the good work.

    • @FortNine
      @FortNine  Před 6 lety +12

      CE garments will be tested with the Darmstadt machine moving forward. It spins at a certain speed (~25 - 120km/h depending on the rating level) then drops the fabric samples onto concrete until they stop. The point of wear-through is detected by an electric current running through a metal plate behind each fabric sample, I believe. It's pretty cool! Looks like this: www.bennetts.co.uk/-/media/default-website/2018/march/motorcycle-clothing-the-ce-approval-law-explained/darmstadt-machine.ashx?h=772&w=740&la=en&hash=8167DA34A91B956677EC0A4DF11FB65468E194DA ~RF9

    An additional note on CE labels... There's also a "China Export" label that is deliberately similar to the actual CE Label.

      I've read that it's actually a myth. That there's no official China Export mark but there's plenty of products that mark themselves CE while they're not or products that misuse the mark so that the spacing is wrong.

    Really good stuff! One topic on helmets that you didn't cover: MIPS (multi-directional impact protection system), basically a layer letting the inner and outer shell move independently in a crash, with the aim to reduce rotational forces. It seems like a great idea, but does it work? What should people look for or avoid in a MIPS helmet?

    Great guide for those beginning to buy good gear! The CE certification topic is a messy one due to some manufacturers (not all) misguiding consumers with what is CE certified and not. A classic example is the use of those generic soft pads being marketed as "CE armor" or "CE tested"; such pads are NOT certified to the EN 1621 sub standards. If thou shalt allow me, here's our guide to all CE certifications: www.mcgearhub.com/motorcycle-gear-guide-frequently-asked-questions/#Motorcycle-gear-product-any-good Disclosure: it's our site & the guide is based in our industry's deep experience.
