Malayalam cinema was always better but nobody paid attention to it because it's a small industry.The 1980s and 1990s are said to be the golden years of Malayalam cinema.It's nice to see people from other film industries and outside the country getting shocked by watching Malayalam movies now, but actually the 1980s and 90s are considered to be the golden era of the Malayalam industry.If you see the characters played by Mammootty and Mohanlal during that period, you will really get goosebumps.Don't know if you will read this comment. Malayalam industry had the best directors India has ever seen(Padmarajan,Bharathan,MT Vasudhevan Nair,Adoor Gopalakrishnan,etc etc).There have been many classic movies in the Malayalam film industry.If you watch all these classic movies, I am sure of one thing that your love for Malayalam cinema will increase 😊

Streaming has changed that for the better. I was born in Africa and the only movies we had access to in cinema on a rare occasion was Bollywood and on an ultra rare we could see an MGR movie. With VHS we still had a handful of hindi and Tamil movies. The first Malayalam movie I saw was in the late 2010s. Then eyes were opened 😊

Mammootty invited the Attam movie cast and crew to his house and shared his love for this film. There is a reason why he still leads the industry at 72!! Forget a movie, this man will recognize quality work even if it is in a short film or a skit. Still not ashamed to ask chance if he thinks it is worth it. Hopefully U may soon see this film's director work with Mammootty.
You should add 'Gaganachari', a malayalam sci-fi mockumentary to the list. Heard so many wonderful things about it. Also it won the 'Best Film' award at the Art Blocks International Film Festival in Copenhagen and has received praise from nine other international film festivals, including some prestigious ones in New York and London.

For this film, the director of the film, Anand Ekarshi first shot a scene from the film then went to the producer for money. Brilliant.
This was a fantastic film. Everyone was clapping once the credit rolled and that's very uncommon in theaters these days.
Hindi is more comprehensible for English speakers as both are of same liguistic family namely Indoeuropean. Rest of the languages you mentioned belong to totally different language group namely Dravidian, maybe that is the reason why it sounds like "Jibberish" and you are unable to distinguish one from the other. Because of cultural/geographic proximity both these language groups have influenced each other heavily; reason why you could still figure out some of the words.

12 angry men was made in Hindi as well, Ek Ruka Hua Faisla, has all theatre artists in it, I love that movie
I couldn't watch the Hindi version over 20 minutes. May be it gets better later, but it's bad on cinematography level, and how the camera is used makes the original film legendary. In the Hindi version the editing is bad.. Of course actors are all great

Movie was great. Luckily I live in an area with a lot of Malayalees so the local AMC shows it. USA

The thing about bad white actors even Rick and Korbin would look off in an Indian movie given the length of roles and style of acting.

The saddest part of this review is that it will be watched by only malayalees and only a few other true movie lovers. Reason for non-elevated artistry in Bollywood is the unacceptability of such films. Even a “12th fail” had to somehow force upon itself an unlikely romance and a heroine with plastic makeup for people to go watch it.

Little known fact, all the main characters ( about 11 of them ) except the woman and "hari" ( Original accused ) were part of a theatre group. The director is from the same theatre group. Director wanted to do something for his friends, in reality, casting was done before giving the character arc and story line -- These were directors words.
