Absolutely loved this movie. This is such an important movie considering most people in India are from the kind of upbringing and society depicted in Kaathal. Kudos to the filmmaker, actors and the crew for bringing this story to the world!
Its kind of sad that you guys have to wait for weeks after release for watching movies like Kaathal, while some mainstream dumb is released all over..But so happy that you guys loved it..This movie was a gem❤A loving ode to love itself❤

Well 12th fail and kathal are both extremely loved and highly praised by the indian audiences which is why you even felt upset about the fact that the indian audience were showering love on these films but they weren't having a release at your place when it came out.. True that these aren't commercial blockbusters like pathan, animal or salaar but that isn't the point as they have made much more than what they have invested.. Glad that Rick recognizes and supports elevative artistry but we at the home ground have been doing that for years for your kind information..

I am not sure if anyone has mentioned this before in the comments... Jyothika is Surya's (The Tamil superstar) wife... The second thing is about India's choices for the Oscars... I have said this before and I am saying this again... India will never win an Oscar unless they revamp the whole selection process for the nominees, starting from the selection of the selectors... It is not only that they have absolutely no friggin clue on what the academy looks for, but it is also that they don't even bloody care if it reaches the final list of nominees... What matters more are agendas... Before you start selections, the selectors have to be educated on what the academy looks for and its history... Here they have no clue on what is happening... And I will also confidently predict it will be the same during the National Awards also which were so respected at one point in time but seem like a sham now for a little more than the last decade.... The other thing is the marketing for Indian movies with respect to the Oscars is a joke... The only one who got it (the marketing mantra, that is) recently is RRR (whatever your opinion of the movie is, notwithstanding)... They started the marketing early and led up to the Awards season pretty well... Learn people, learn... coz movies like "Kaathal the Core" and "12th Fail" come out rarely and you just missed an opportunity for a genuine chance at the Oscars.... (Ha, as if they care)...

Do watch ' Puzhu ', from last year. It's probably Mammootty's best performance in the last two years, I think. On a side note, also watch 'Thuramukham' (not a mammootty film) which released this year.

Beautiful portrayal of human emotions and complexities., which the Mollywood has always excelled in many films, but this one is very special due to the subject matter involved. It amazes me to think that all of the actions that were seemingly separating them, were all actions that were binding them more! They were separating out of love so that they don’t have to be miserable with each other. Jyotika obviously was more smarter than Mammootty and realized the problems much quicker. Mammootty feared to reveal his real identity and did nothing to stick to his identity. He was forcing himself to be straight out of societal norms.

I don't know what is your definition of LGBTQ movies, but this is definitely one as it tackles a very important issue prevalent in India as it impacts not only the community itself but also the straight women who end up in marriages with them and cannot walk out for various reasons. So, this is also a feminist film by extension. But, yes, the focus is somewhere on the intersection of both causes and sees both sides of the issue and with the father's confession also pin-points the root of the issue. I remember reading somewhere that a mother watched this film and called her gay son and apologised for pressuring him to marry a woman. Helping a fearful mind develop empathy is a big win for the film!
Another thing: the characters do not have a surname. It is just first name followed by father's name. So, Devassy is the dad's first name.
This was not an lgbtq movie. It was a human movie

YES! Just get rid of an award that starts with "The first..." I loved Kaathal The Core. The scene where Matthew hugs Omana and says, "Deivame!" .. My Angel/My Goddess - i broke down like a crazy mess. I wish Indian film producers do not wait for an official nomination from the Indian government - i would like producers to bring their movies to Awards season in Hollywood, within the guidelines provided .. independently. I think all Indian producers need to watch Tovino Thomas' "And The Oscar Goes To..." to find out what is involved in promoting a movie in Hollywood come awards season.

Sorry for the long "story" that you are going to read...I started watching reaction Chanel's for certification..but after sometime I started following OSR I understood that what I am doing is wrong... the amount of knowledge you have regarding the art,cinema is incredible...the way you understand the context is amazing..I have noticed like innother channels like jaby koay for the sake of it they applaud Indian cinema not knowing the directior or the script writer or the cinematographer, knowingly or unknowingly..but you guys do all the homeworks...in short I have hardly seen any reviewers who understands the art as you guys do..
